Suspected terrorists abducted the newly elected Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area, Alhaji Saidu, along with two councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards.

Several unidentified passengers traveling in a separate Hisbah vehicle were also kidnapped.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening as the officials were traveling from Biu to Maiduguri.

According to credible sources, the abductions took place between Kamuya village and the Buni Yadi road, carried out by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

The passengers were in a Hisbah vehicle traveling from Potiskum in Yobe State to Biu. One of the abducted councillors is noted as the immediate past Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government.

A senior politician, speaking anonymously, confirmed: “Yes, our newly elected Vice Chairman in the last Saturday local government polls, Alhaji Saidu, and two Councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa Wards of Biu local government area in Borno state were abducted by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists between Kamuya village and Buni Yadi road.

“They were abducted alongside some unidentified passengers travelling in a Hizbah vehicle en route from Potiskum town of Yobe state to Biu.

“One of the councillors abducted was the immediate past vice chairman of Biu local government.

“We are appealing to the government and our security agencies to intensify efforts in rescuing them and other captives safely.”

Notorious Road Remains a Security Concern

The approximately 120 km road stretching from Biu through Buratai and Kamuya to Buni Yadi and Damaturu “has remained a death trap,” with numerous reports of killings and abductions over the years.

Travelers on this route continue to face high risks from insurgent activities.

The Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria (ATWAP), Rivers State Chapter, has declared its resolve to stop the incessant harassment of their members’ operational vehicles and extortion in the state.

Chairman of the association, Okey Okafor, made the declaration shortly after the inauguration of their new executive members in Port Harcourt.

He also hinted of his administration’s drive to stop the proliferation of associations in the state and congregate all into one body for easier coordination of   activities.

“There is only one vision outside other visions; to tear down the multiple associations in Rivers State and bring all to one body. There’s a new focus and a new drive to do it.” 

“We want to stop, by every means, institutional harassment of our vehicles on the road. 

We want them to understand that we are an incorporated body. We’re visible, we’re known and we have an office. I want them to realise that they can sue us the same way we can sue them. So, there will be no reason for anybody to go to the streets and harass our vehicles,” he said.

The ATWAP Rivers chairman warned members to stop hurrying to pay money to release their vehicles amidst harassment and seizure, saying it’s not within their purview to negotiate, as that responsibility lies with the leadership of the association.

“If anybody packs your vehicle, you’re not authorised to negotiate; your duty is to call us. Negotiation is our domain, not your own. Stop trying to give money; stop trying to bribe your way out of the road. Realize that it may take  time for your vehicle to come out but definitely it will surely come out. If you’re steadfast, you give us the energy to work,” he said.

Okafor promised that the inaugurated executive council would continue to uphold transparency, accountability and prudence in the management of the association’s funds.

Speaking with journalists after officially inaugurating the officials, National President of ATWAP, Clementina Ativie, advised them to work with the fear of God.

“My charge to the officials of ATWAP, Rivers State Chapter, is that they should work with the fear of God; protect the interest of our members and make sure that you uphold the value of the water industry,” she said.

She dismissed doubts about the health worthiness of satchet water production process which she said does not involve contamination or human interference.

“Anyone saying that satchet water does not have quality, I don’t understand, because it is difficult for you to adulterate satchet water. Satchet water is a product that, from borehole, for aeration to the treatment unit, to the machine and to the satchet, has no physical interference from the workers; you don’t touch it. As soon as you open satchet water, whether you finish it or not, you discard. 

In satchet water, once there is any defect during the production, you can’t recover it. We should have confidence in satchet water,” she explained.

Nine officials were inaugurated to run ATWAP, Rivers State Chapter, for the next four years. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko Border, has intercepted 16 kilogrammes of heroin, 12 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), and 1,502 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa, alongside other prohibited items, with a cumulative value put at over ₦2.6 billion.

The Acting Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the command’s activities within 11 days of his assumption of office.

Afeni stated that the hard drugs were seized during six intelligence-driven operations carried out between Thursday, 4 December, and Monday, 15 December 2025, across different locations in Ogun State.

According to him, the seizures were made along the Lusada/Ado-Odo axis, Abule Kazeem/Igbo-Ora Road, Abeokuta axis, Imeko axis, Idiroko/Owode axis, Ipokia, among other locations.

The items include 4,998 cartons of Doga brand spaghetti (10kg each), 419 cartons of Oba brand spaghetti (10kg each), illegally imported from Turkey, and 2,200 kegs of vegetable oil (25 litres each) of Indonesian origin.

Other seized items include 11 wraps of crystal meth (ICE) weighing 12kg, 16 pieces of heroin weighing 16kg, and cannabis sativa in doughnut-size, coconut-size, and booklet-size forms, totalling 3,373 wraps and weighing 1,502kg.

Afeni added that Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) totalling 6,750 litres, 4,738 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each), two units of foreign-used vehicles, and 309 bundles of used pneumatic tyres were also intercepted.

He said, “On 12 December 2025, our gallant officers and men successfully intercepted an Iveco truck with registration number RMY-354-XA, laden with four thousand, nine hundred and ninety-eight (4,998) cartons of Doga brand spaghetti (10kg each), and four hundred and nineteen (419) cartons of Oba brand spaghetti (10kg each), illegally imported from Turkey.

Again, on 13 December 2025, our operatives intercepted a DAF truck with registration number JHN-590-XA, conveying two thousand, two hundred (2,200) kegs of vegetable oil (25 litres each) of Indonesian origin.”

The Comptroller stated that the trucks and their contents would be forfeited to the federal government in line with extant laws and guidelines.

Afeni noted that the cannabis sativa seizures were achieved through six intelligence-driven operations conducted between Thursday, 4 December 2025, and Monday, 15 December 2025, across various locations.

He expressed concern over the seizure of crystal meth and cannabis sativa, describing it as worrisome due to their far-reaching impact on youths, public health, and national security.

“Though we are primarily an enforcement command, we have also made efforts in revenue generation and have so far generated twenty-seven million, two hundred and ninety-one thousand, eight hundred and sixty-one naira (N27,291,861.00) as at Tuesday, 16 December 2025. This achievement is due to the diligence of our officers and men, as well as the cooperation of compliant traders,” he added.

While commending officers of the command for their relentless efforts despite daunting challenges, the Comptroller also acknowledged the collaborative support of sister agencies, traditional institutions, local informants, community leaders, and youths.

He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to sustain the momentum and warned smugglers and their collaborators to steer clear of the state, stressing that the command remains vigilant, alert, and ready to confront any threat to the nation’s economic and security interests.

Meanwhile, the Customs boss handed over the seized narcotics to the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command, Ekundayo William, for further necessary action.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has commiserated with the people of Ora Igbomina over recent banditry attacks, assuring that a military-backed rescue and protection security operation has been underway for the past three days.

Speaking after an emergency security council meeting held on Wednesday evening, the Governor described the Ora incident as saddening and a major security breach even after almost all the water-tight pre-emptive precautions already put in place in the last three months.

Reviewing the development with service commanders from the police, the army, the secret service, and other paramilitary agencies, Governor Adeleke expressed confidence that the ongoing military-backed security operations across the border towns would prevent recurrence of the attacks and also secure the release of the kidnapped retired customs officer.

“From the moment of the unfortunate incident, our security forces have launched a rescue and protection operation. For the past three days, both the police, the army, and the DSS have been combing the areas for rescue and also reviewing the security apparatus. A delicate operation is ongoing, and we don’t want to jeopardise the integrity of the process.

As part of our security plan, we will soon deploy the refurbished armoured tanks for operations across the state. We are also procuring patrol vehicles to strengthen police and security operations in the state. Additionally, we are reviewing the joint security patrol programme. It will be unveiled at the right time to further protect our people,” the governor noted.

To forestall any further security breaches and possible spill-over from Kwara State, Governor Adeleke, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, has issued new operational guidelines for the Amotekun security service, directing the Amotekun leadership to ensure proper coordination with the police in their operations.

The governor directed that an operational meeting be held between the police authorities and the Amotekun service to ensure proper coordination in future operations, warning that working in silos will no longer be tolerated.

According to the governor, Amotekun services should always involve the police in its operations to ensure synergy and service support, expressing happiness that Amotekun will soon get back to the field under the new arrangement.

The governor who lamented the unfortunate Akinlalu incident said the Amotekun service has learnt lessons even as the law takes its course, affirming that the Amotekun service is needed more than ever in view of new security challenges facing the state.

“After the security council meeting, I am happy to announce that the Amotekun service will resume full operations under new guidelines I just issued. We are facing an emergency in our border towns and it is important to get the Amotekun back to the field as urgently as possible.

“I must, however, plead with members of the public to reduce late-night activities. In addition to the bandtry challenge, we are in the yuletide period when our people need to be security conscious. Criminals are targeting late-night gatherings. We need to stick to daytime events to further protect ourselves.

“I once again commiserate with victims of recent banditry attacks. We are working tirelessly to prevent reoccurence,” the governor was quoted as saying in the press statement.

According to the organisation, the initiative is designed to assist individuals transitioning from correctional facilities back into society and aligns with PRALARG’s core mandate of promoting human dignity, law-abiding conduct, and sustainable rehabilitation.

“These programmes will be rolled out progressively as part of our holistic approach to uplifting the downtrodden and promoting self-reliance,” the statement said.

PRALARG noted that limited access to finance remains a major challenge for ex-inmates seeking to rebuild their lives, often exposing them to stigma, unemployment, and the risk of reoffending. The cooperative, it explained, is intended to bridge this gap by providing structured financial support tied to accountability and productivity.

“This cooperative is a practical rehabilitation tool. It goes beyond welfare by equipping beneficiaries, especially reformed inmates, with the means to become economically independent and socially responsible citizens,” the organisation stated.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the newly released movie A Very Dirty Christmas, produced by Nollywood actress Ini Edo, describing its title as offensive and disrespectful to the Christian faith.

In a statement issued by CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the umbrella Christian body argued that associating Christmas with the word “dirty” trivialises and undermines the spiritual significance of the Christian celebration.

According to CAN, Christmas represents the birth of Jesus Christ and is a sacred season marked by holiness, love, and reverence, adding that the movie’s title conveys a negative impression that contradicts these values.

The association therefore called on Ini Edo and the producers of the movie to offer a public apology to Christians across the country and to exercise greater sensitivity to religious beliefs in creative works.

Two residents of Ugba community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State were abducted by unknown persons in the early hours of Wednesday.
The victims have been identified as Mr. Kpishi Terhile and Madam Demetindi Nongo.

Suspected terrorists who abducted seven construction workers in Oba community, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, have demanded a ransom of ₦500 million for their release.

A source in one of the victims’ families told SaharaReporters on Wednesday evening that the kidnappers had made contact and insisted on the payment before the workers could regain their freedom.

“The kidnappers have reached out and demanded ₦500 million for the release of the seven construction workers.

“We are appealing to the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure their safe release,” the source said.

The victims, construction workers engaged on a project in the community, were recently seized by armed men during an attack in Oba, throwing their families and residents into fear and uncertainty.

According to the source, the attackers stormed the construction site and forcefully took away the workers.

Among the seven kidnapped were two staff members of the Kwara State Ministry of Works, the source added.

“The attackers came suddenly, overpowered the workers and marched them into the bush,” the source said, noting that the assailants encountered no immediate resistance.

In a related development, Naija News previously reported that Nigerian soldiers arrested a group of suspected bandits found patrolling with AK‑47 rifles in a local security patrol vehicle in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara.

The suspects were intercepted by troops during an operation and taken into custody.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the arrested men were seen prostrated with their hands tied as soldiers questioned them about their activities and the source of the weapons.

During the interrogation, one of the suspects, speaking in Hausa and Pidgin English, claimed that the patrol vehicle and rifles were provided by the Kwara State government.

“We have been here for quite a while. We are using the vehicle for patrol. Wallahi, na the truth I dey tell you.

“Ilorin government na him give us this motor and the weapons. They were the ones that gave us the rifles,” he said.

The suspect further alleged that the arms were not personally collected by him but by their superior, whom he referred to as “our oga,” insisting that multiple individuals were involved.

“We are not the ones that collected the rifles; it was our oga that collected them. I know because I was with them. We go patrol many times with them, including oga Victor. All of them are involved. The weapons are theirs,” he claimed.

The Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Communications and Strategy, Allen Sowore, has dismissed claims that the convoy of Governor Aiyedatiwa knocked down a young man at Oka-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government Area, during his thank-you tour.

Sowore, who described the position of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as false, confirmed, however, that the deceased, Good Emiju, was hit on the same day the governor was in Oka.

The PDP had accused Aiyedatiwa and the state government of remaining silent over the incident, which reportedly created tension in the community.

According to the governor’s aide, a police van attached to the Officer-in-Charge (O.C.) Scorpion was responsible for the death of the deceased.

Sowore maintained that the police van was not part of the governor’s convoy but was on a separate assignment at the time of the incident. He commiserated with the family of the deceased.

He said, “The police officers involved promptly conveyed the victim to the hospital, and officials of the Nigeria Police Force are currently engaging with the family following the victim’s demise.

“Once again, the Ondo State PDP is strongly advised to verify its facts before issuing incorrect, mischievous, and sensational press statements capable of causing unnecessary tension and apprehension in the state.”
