The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has officially launched the One Government Enterprise Content Management System (1Gov ECMS) at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja.

According to a statement in Abuja on Friday, signed by Margaret Oyinboade Ag. Head, Press & Public Affairs, Keyamo, launched the digital platform on Thursday in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the Minister described the 1Gov ECMS as a timely and critical innovation, particularly suited to the aviation sector, given its extensive national footprint and complex operational network.

Keyamo said the Aviation Sector operates across the entire country, with offices and agencies located at airports nationwide. This structure previously necessitated the frequent physical movement of files between airports, zonal offices, Lagos and Abuja for approvals.

He disclosed that in 2023 alone, the Ministry expended over N500 million on flight tickets and related logistics purely for the movement of physical files, stressing that the introduction of the ECMS would significantly reduce costs and enhance efficiency across government operations.

“What we will save with this system is not just money, but efficiency, time and the integrity of government processes. This platform will save Nigeria”, he stated.

Keyamo explained that the 1Gov ECMS eliminates manual bottlenecks, ends the culture of “search and rescue” for missing files, shortens approval cycles, and improves service delivery across all Departments and Agencies under the Ministry.

He further highlighted the system’s role in safeguarding Nigeria’s digital sovereignty, noting that the government-owned platform, powered by Galaxy Backbone Limited, protects sensitive government data from foreign vendor lock-in and external security risks.

He also commended the inclusion of a secure video conferencing feature, which reduces dependence on foreign platforms and enhances confidentiality in official engagements.

Keyamo expressed appreciation to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, for her leadership and commitment to public service reforms, describing the ECMS as a major boost to performance management and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

He also commended Galaxy Backbone Limited for its professionalism and continued support in deploying secure, government-owned digital solutions.

In her address, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, described the launch of the ECMS as a deliberate and strategic step towards reducing paper usage, improving operational speed, and ensuring seamless access to official records within the Ministry.

She noted that the Ministry occupies a critical position in Nigeria’s development architecture, supporting connectivity, trade, tourism, security, and technological advancement—all of which require accuracy, safety, and timeliness.

Mrs Walson-Jack stated that the launch positions the Ministry to meet the Federal Government’s directive for the full digitalisation of work processes by 31st December 2025, in line with Pillar Five of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP25).

She added that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which prioritises an efficient, accountable, responsive, and digitally enabled Public Service.

While congratulating the Ministry on the successful Go-Live, the HCSF stressed that digital transformation is an ongoing process requiring consistent and disciplined use of the system.

She acknowledged Galaxy Backbone Limited, the Federal Government’s digital infrastructure backbone and custodian of the 1Gov Cloud, for its technical expertise and sustained support.

She further directed that all official correspondence in the Ministry should henceforth be routed electronically through hm.registry@aviation.gov.ng or ps.registry@aviation.gov.ng, signalling the formal transition from paper-based processing to disciplined digital practice.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Yakubu Adam Kofarmata, welcomed the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Honourable Minister, and other distinguished guests. He stated that the launch marks the Ministry’s official transition to a paperless operational system, adding that agencies under the Ministry would soon be onboarded.

He said, the 1Gov ECMS is a robust digital solution designed to stand the test of time and enhance efficiency across the Ministry, describing the launch as a major milestone in the Federal Government’s drive towards a fully automated, efficient, and accountable public service, with the aviation sector taking a leading role.

In a goodwill message accompanied by a live demonstration of the 1Gov Cloud Platform, a representative of Galaxy Backbone Limited, Mr. Akintayo Ayodeji Bakare, described the event as a significant milestone in fulfilling commitments under the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025, aimed at building a digitally driven Civil Service.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Ibrahim Lawal, expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Directors, and all stakeholders for their dedication and collaboration in ensuring the successful delivery of the milestone.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has certified that the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) and the Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo International Airport, Port Harcourt (JOAIA) have met regulatory requirements.

This is the first time both airports will be certified by the NCAA. This also brings to four the number of certified international airports in Nigeria. Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, were previously certified.

The NCAA Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo, who was excited about the historical moment, said the process was not merely procedural — “It was, indeed, a demonstration of the NCAA’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every aerodrome in Nigeria meets the requirements prescribed in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023 Part 12, Vol. I, which represents the domesticated version of ICAO Annexe 14, Volume I.”

Presenting the certificates of both aerodromes to the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, the operators of the airports, on Friday at the NCAA Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, Capt. Najomo highlighted that “both MAKIA and JOAIA have now been adjudged compliant and have no matters of significant safety concern outstanding.”

He emphasised that aerodrome certification is not a ceremonial exercise, but a globally recognised attestation that the aerodrome infrastructure is safe; operational procedures meet international benchmarks, and safety management systems are functional.

The NCAA chief executive further explained that with the certification, insurance premiums on the aerodrome would reduce significantly.

“Certification strengthens the airport’s risk profile in the eyes of insurers, often resulting in more favourable insurance premiums and improved underwriting conditions for both the aerodrome operator and, in some cases, the airlines and service providers operating at the airport. For airlines, investors, and the travelling public, this certificate is a seal of confidence,” he stated.

“For Nigeria, it is another step towards strengthening our aviation credibility and competitiveness. I dare say that it aligns with the Honourable Minister’s 5-point agenda in particular, and Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda in general, which emphasises infrastructure renewal, institutional strengthening, and improved service delivery across strategic national sectors, including aviation,” he further assured.

He reaffirmed that the NCAA will maintain continuous adherence to Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations and ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), uphold robust safety management systems, adopt technology-driven operational practices, ensure quality-driven and transparent processes that satisfy all stakeholders, while supporting the sustainable development of the aviation industry and national economy, in accordance with our mandate.

In her remarks, FAAN MD, Mrs Kuku said FAAN received the certificates with humility and a clear understanding of the responsibility they confer.

“We acknowledge the Authority’s note regarding the outstanding items in the corrective action plan. Let me assure the NCAA of our strict adherence to this corrective action plan”, she assured.

“We have already activated dedicated teams and processes to address them with urgency and precision. We view this not as a footnote, but as the next critical phase in our commitment to continuous improvement. Our goal is absolute compliance, and we will not rest until every single item is conclusively resolved,” she further stated.

“The certification of these two major international gateways is a strategic pillar of growth in Nigeria’s aviation sector. It reinforces confidence for airlines, assures passengers of our commitment to world-class safety, and enhances Nigeria’s standing within the global aviation community. It is a clear signal that our airports are operated with integrity, professionalism, and in strict adherence to international benchmarks,” she said.

Earlier in his comments, the Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards (Daas), Engr. Godwin Balang, the supervising director, said his responsibility is to ensure that every aerodrome in the nation meets the technical, operational, and safety requirements prescribed in Nig.CARs Part 12, Vol. I, supported by the guidance in NCAA Advisory Circular NCAA-AC-ARDO02.

“Our inspectors conducted multiple assessments and validated corrective actions as required until most of the identified gaps were satisfactorily addressed, leaving a few outstanding, thus necessitating the invocation of applicable restrictions aligning the certificates issued with prevailing realities”, he explained.

“We will continue to exercise the surveillance responsibilities through periodic inspections, audits, validation of reported data, and enforcement where necessary”, he assured.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, has unsealed the headquarters of Ikeja Electric in Lagos after the electricity distribution company complied with remedial measures over consumer rights violations.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commission’s spokesperson, Ondaje Ijagwu, said the facility was sealed on December 11, 2025, following Ikeja Electric’s failure to comply with a directive from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.

According to FCCPC, the directive required the company to unbundle a Maximum Demand account into 20 individual accounts for a customer who had reportedly been without electricity supply for more than two and a half years.

Ijagwu noted that Ikeja Electric has now given an undertaking to resolve all consumer complaints referred to it by the Commission within agreed timelines. He warned that any violation of the undertaking would attract renewed and stiffer enforcement actions under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA).

Commenting on the development, the FCCPC Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Tunji Bello, said the action was taken to enforce compliance with the FCCPA, 2018.

Bello emphasised that the commission’s mandate is to protect consumers and ensure service providers adhere to lawful directives, stressing that enforcement is not an end in itself.

“Where compliance is achieved and credible commitments are made, the Commission will respond appropriately,” he said.

He added that the decision to unseal the headquarters reflects the FCCPC’s balanced regulatory approach, noting that while the commission intervenes decisively where consumer harm persists, it also de-escalates once enforceable compliance is secured.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Saturday to visit Borno, Bauchi and Lagos States.

Naija News reports that this was disclosed in a statement on Friday night by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

While in Borno State, President Tinubu will commission some projects undertaken by Governor Babagana Zulum and the Federal Government.

He will also attend the wedding ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of the former Governor of the State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and his heartthrob, Hadiza Kam Salem.

From Maiduguri, the President will move to Bauchi to condole with the Government of Bauchi State and the family of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, the late renowned Muslim cleric and leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood.

Recall that the Sheikh died on November 27.

After the condolence visit, President Bola Tinubu will leave for Lagos, where he will spend the upcoming end-of-year holidays.

He is expected to be the guest of honour at the Eyo Festival scheduled for December 27, among his numerous engagements while in the city.

The festival at Tafawa Balewa Square will honour prominent figures, including President Tinubu’s mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, and former governors Alhaji Lateef Jakande and Chief Michael Otedola.

The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo and the Acting National Chairman, Dr Sadiq Gombe, have welcomed Friday’s Supreme Court judgment dismissing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s appeal on the party’s leadership dispute.

This is as he described the ruling as a major victory for democracy, party autonomy and the rule of law.

Speaking at a press conference at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, he said the apex court’s decision reaffirmed the long-settled legal position that the internal affairs of political parties are beyond the reach of external interference.

“This decision is very significant, not only for the SDP, but for all political parties in Nigeria,” he said. “It affirms the long-standing position of the Supreme Court that the internal affairs of political parties are for the parties alone to determine.”

The National Chairman urged INEC to fully comply with the judgment by allowing political parties to manage their internal processes in line with their constitutions, while also calling on political parties to uphold internal discipline and due process.

“We are grateful to the judiciary. We hope this judgment strengthens our democracy and the rule of law as we move towards 2027 and beyond.

“We understood their anxiety and passion; however, justice must always prevail. We expect INEC to henceforth stop meddling into the internal affairs of political parties, as this has long been decided and settled by the honourable Supreme Court.

“The commission must also stop any dealing whatsoever with suspended or expelled members of the party and immediately replace the name of expelled National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, with the duly recognised Acting leader,” he said.

Also reacting to the judgment, lead counsel to the SDP and its 2023 presidential candidate, Dr Adewole Adebayo, said the ruling sent a clear warning to INEC to refrain from actions capable of undermining Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.

“I have made it clear to INEC to stop interfering in the internal affairs of the SDP and other political parties,” Adebayo said after the judgment. “A multi-party democracy requires an umpire that is unbiased and not one that foments crises within opposition parties.”

Adebayo insisted that the SDP has no leadership crisis, maintaining that the party’s national officers — including the National Chairman, Sadiq Umar Abubakar, the National Secretary, Dr Olu Agunloye, and members of the National Working Committee — are validly in office.

He explained that the dispute arose after the party appointed an acting national chairman who wrote to INEC to nominate candidates, a step the commission declined to recognise, choosing instead to deal with a chairman already removed by the party.

“The courts were clear that INEC had no such powers,” Adebayo said, recalling that the Court of Appeal affirmed the SDP’s right to change its leadership and authorised the acting chairman to act for the party.

Despite those decisions, INEC pursued the matter to the Supreme Court, which dismissed the appeal and awarded a ₦2 million cost against the commission — a penalty Adebayo said would ultimately be borne by Nigerian taxpayers.

“It is unfortunate for the taxpayer, but it is a necessary lesson for INEC to leave the SDP, and indeed all political parties, alone,” he said.

He warned that democracy would be imperilled if opposition parties were weakened through institutional interference. “If only the ruling party exists, there will be no democracy. Nigerians must have real choices,” Adebayo added.

The Supreme Court ruling, the party said, reinforces the principle of party supremacy and signals judicial intolerance for undue interference by regulatory institutions in the internal affairs of political parties.

The Supreme Court had thrown out INEC’s appeal challenging the leadership of the SDP, with the apex court also awarding ₦2 million costs against the commission.

In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court described INEC’s appeal as lacking in merit and purely academic.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has restated “his long-standing position” that he will retire from active politics after he is done with the governorship.

Mr Otti insisted that he has no presidential, vice presidential or senatorial ambition, according to a statement issued by Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity, on Friday, 19 December.

Mr Ekeoma stated that the governor gave the explanation on 19 December at Government House Umuahia, while reacting to a viral video, in which someone was berating him over his recent visit to the jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, alleging that he is nursing presidential or vice presidential ambition after the end of his tenure.

A Federal High Court in Abuja, in November, sentenced Mr Kanu to life imprisonment for terrorism.

Mr Otti, while acknowledging that divergence of opinion is part of democracy, said everyone is free to hold an opinion and that such opinion may not be right.

“In the first place, that is the beauty of democracy. So people should hold their opinion, and we respect people’s opinion. And that you hold a different opinion doesn’t mean you are right.

“One of the things he talked about was my ambition after being governor.

“And I had said it before, and I want to say it again, that by the time I’m done with governorship, I will retire.

“So I don’t have presidential ambition, nor vice-presidential ambition. I also don’t have senatorial ambition when I finish with the governorship.

“I came on a mission, and when I deliver that mission, I will give way for younger people. So he was talking of Igbo presidency. I don’t even understand what that means.

“I think if his thesis is based on that assumption, the assumption has collapsed, because he won’t see me on the ballot,” Mr Otti stated.

According to him, it is important for a public official to know when to quit.

“When you have done what you have been asked to do, you must take the exit door and give way for other people. We’ve seen people here, after being governor, who went back to become local government chairmen. That’s not what we are here for. We are not cut out for those kind of things.”

“The second point is about Nnamdi Kanu. And I don’t want to put this matter in the public space so that it doesn’t derail the discussions that we are having.

“The truth about it is that exactly 24 months ago, I opened up discussions at the highest level on Nnamdi Kanu.

“And going to see him is the right thing to do, because he comes from my state. In fact, he comes from this Local Government (Umuahia North, the Abia State capital).

“And there are always different ways to solve a problem. I don’t believe that the way to solve a problem is to ignore it. And I had written extensively, even about Nnamdi Kanu and Operation Pyton Dance, I think in 2017 or 2018. And I condemned it.

“And I still condemn it. I cannot vouch for some of the recordings that the gentleman put in his video, where he said Nnamdi Kanu called for mutiny, I don’t know about that! But then, I do know that two wrongs do not make a right,” the governor explained.

Governor Otti said he knows that when an issue has been approached from the legal point of view, there is also another window, called “the administrative point of view”.

“I’m not a lawyer. And if the judiciary says the man has been sentenced to life imprisonment. That is certainly not the end. Because that’s the court of first instance, there’s still an opportunity to appeal, and then an opportunity to even go to the Supreme Court.

“But what we are trying to do is to intervene. I’m not a supporter of the disintegration of Nigeria.

“So my position is that it would be insensitive of me to sit here and say one of our own, who has been convicted, should die when we have an opportunity to discuss, negotiate, and sue for peace. Even people convicted to death can be pardoned. That’s what I’m working on. It has nothing to do with non-existent presidential ambition. Everything is not politics.”

Passengers on Air Peace flight from London to Abuja experienced a terrifying ordeal when the plane hit severe turbulence mid-air.

In the now-viral viral TikTok video, the passengers erupts into prayers shouting”Jesus!” and “The blood of Jesus!” as the plane shook violently.

According to @scotchy, the passengers on board concluded  they were going to die during the plane’s turbulence.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has rejected what it described as false and misleading claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding Governor Dauda Lawal’s recent visit to the Dansadau Emirate in Maru Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by Halliru Andi, PDP Publicity Secretary, on Friday, the PDP said it read the APC’s press release with utter dismay.

They accused the ruling party of spreading fiction about the governor’s trip.

According to the PDP, Governor Lawal received a warm and historic welcome from the Emir of Dansadau, the Emirate Council, and local residents.

The party said people from communities along the 107-kilometre Gusau-Dansadau road came out in large numbers to welcome the governor, making the journey take several hours.

“The conferment of the traditional title ‘Garkuwan Dansadau’ on Governor Dauda Lawal clearly shows the respect, love and acceptance he enjoys among the people,” the PDP stated.

The party also said Dansadau had been ignored for almost 10 years under APC-led governments.

PDP noted that no sitting governor visited the area during that period.

It said Governor Lawal ended this neglect by visiting the community to listen to residents’ concerns and to flag off the Gusau-Magami-Dansadau road project.

The PDP explained that the road project would help improve security, boost economic activities, and make it easier for farmers to transport their produce.

The party added that most residents of the area are farmers who had suffered neglect in the past.

On the reported incident involving the lawmaker representing Maru South, Hon. Kabiru Mikailu Dangulbi, the PDP condemned the development and blamed desperate APC element  for allegedly trying to embarrass the lawmaker and damage the governor’s image.

“The matter has been reported to the appropriate security agencies, and investigations are ongoing,” the statement said.

It added that the APC should allow the law to take its course.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains firmly in control ahead of the 2027 general election, warning that only a reckless politician would attempt to challenge the incumbent president.

Speaking on Friday, Shettima dismissed any serious opposition to Tinubu’s re-election bid, insisting that electoral victories are built through structure, alliances, and credibility, not online popularity or social media noise.

The Vice President made the remarks during the 15th meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. Party leaders, governors, and top officials were present at the gathering.

According to Shettima, political ambition without strategy and grassroots support is a dead end.

He stressed that Nigeria’s elections are decided by real engagement with voters and strong political coalitions, not trending hashtags.

“Only a fool hell-bent on a suicidal path or an outright imposter can dare to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election. But we are in a democracy, and people are free to contest elections,” he said on Friday.

The Vice President further cautioned against relying on nostalgia or public sentiment shaped online, noting that such approaches have repeatedly failed in Nigeria’s political history.

“But elections are not won by noise or nostalgia. Elections are not conducted, to follow the words of Uba Sani, elections are not conducted on Facebook, on Twitter. They are won by coalitions, credibility, and conviction.”

Shettima praised President Tinubu’s political experience, describing it as a major advantage as preparations for 2027 gradually take shape.

He said the APC is guided by lessons from past elections and remains focused on consolidating its achievements in government.

“With the experience of our president is our shield, and the lessons of the past are our guide. I believe that 2027 is not a gamble; it is a responsibility, and by the grace of God, we shall have a renewable blessing,” Shettima told the gathering.
