One day historians will look back and try to pinpoint the moment the seeds of MAGA’s demise were sown.

By then, the extraordinary force founded by Donald Trump will have ended, as all iconoclastic political movements inevitably do, having run its rollercoaster course.

How long that will take is anyone’s guess but Trump’s enemies are increasingly claiming it will be sooner rather than later. And they point to April 2, the day he announced sweeping global tariffs, as the moment things began to unravel.

Less than a year into his second term, the president has hit a new polling low. The coalition he assembled to win the 2024 election is fracturing and he is bleeding support, particularly among young and minority voters.

A key MAGA ally, Marjorie Taylor Greene, has accused him of abandoning his America First base, voters of all hues are complaining about grocery prices, conservative influencers are raising uncomfortable questions, and the midterm elections next year threaten to be brutal for Trump-aligned candidates.

And looming beyond that is the biggest question of all for MAGA – can a new leader replicate Trump’s success when the maestro himself leaves the stage shortly after the 2028 election.

According to Gallup, Trump’s approval rating has slipped to a second-term low of 36 percent with 60 percent disapproval.

That rating of -24 points is the second lowest at this stage of a second term, after Richard Nixon who was mired in Watergate. By comparison, Ronald Reagan was at +41 points.

The 2024 election result had shown a historic shift in the electorate and the current White House hoped it would prove to be a new permanent MAGA coalition that cut across ethnicity and age.

But less than a year later Trump’s approval rating among black voters has fallen from 24 percent to 13 percent. and from 40 percent to 34 among Hispanic voters.

According to the Pew Research Center 70 percent of Hispanic voters disapprove of Trump’s performance, and 78 percent have a negative view of the economy.

That raises troubling long-term questions over the future of Texas, where one quarter of the electorate is Hispanic, as a Republican stronghold.

Meanwhile, one study of politically independent young men showed Trump’s popularity plummeting from 50 percent in February to 31 percent by October.

Pollsters are united in what is going wrong – the economy.

‘Biden had an eight month honeymoon that ended in Afghanistan. Trump’s honeymoon ended when he announced tariffs,’ one pollster told the Daily Mail. ‘His numbers went down pretty quickly after the tariffs were announced. And of course, that’s mostly related to economic policy and impact.

‘Young men were pragmatic and cut him a fair amount of slack. But they’re asking themselves, has Trump and his policies made it easier for me to provide for myself and the people I care about, and the answer is no.’

Pollsters suggest Trump’s announcement of global tariffs in April lost him support 

If MAGA is to thrive long term Trump himself will have to rescue the situation.

‘I’ve always believed that it was more about the persona, Trump’s persona, than any any policies,’ a pollster said. ‘He made people feel a certain way, gives them certain kind of energies. But you can’t just loan that out or pass that down.

‘Trump is Trump, he’s got that persona where (podcaster) Theo Von would want to talk to him and it’s unclear to me whether that also translates.’

Another pollster said: ‘It’s not that Trump’s played the game better, he’s changed the game, he’s changed the world and we’ve never had anyone like him.

But there was that small group (in 2024) that took him from about 45 percent up to 50 percent and a lot of those people have left him,. These are the people who voted for Trump because they hated vice president Harris.’

In particular, they have been alienated by the ‘affordability crisis.’

‘Very present and prevalent is the concern about affordability, and that underlies everything that’s happening right now,’ a pollster said. ‘How can I afford housing and health care, food and fuel? And that will determine whether or not Trump is ultimately a success. And if he fails on affordability, he’ll be punished for it.’

Skeptics question whether anyone apart from Trump has the charisma required to lead MAGA

However, MAGA-linked figures believe many of the changes introduced in Trump’s whirlwind first year have already permanently changed the country, and defended the tariffs policy.

‘He has changed the way Americans view so many different things, how we relate to our allies and our enemies all around the globe,’ one said.

‘With tariffs he is rebalancing trade in the world. I think that Americans want fair trade, free trade is a nice idea, it’s really not what it seems because it’s not really free. Rebalancing the way America does business around the world is going to have a long term impact on so many different industries and consumers at the end of the day.’

Meanwhile, several organizations are already planning for the long-term future of MAGA behind the scenes.

The America First Policy Institute, which set out numerous policy proposals during the 2024 campaign, has ramped up its efforts in recent months and moved into a building on Pennsylvania Avenue, close to the White House.

It aims to both produce and promote America First policies for post-2028 and help grow future political talent.

A senior executive there was recently quoted as saying: ‘This is about thinking not even five years down the road, this is about thinking 100 years down the road.’

Meanwhile, another little-known organization focused on the long-term future of MAGA is already becoming hugely influential.

The Rockbridge Network grew out of meeting in Rockbridge, Ohio in 2019 and was co-founded by J.D. Vance.

Others at the meeting included Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel, Republican megadonor Rebekah Mercer, and Tucker Carlson.

Rockbridge now operates at the intersection of MAGA, Silicon Valley and Wall Street.

It has around 200 members and the cost of membership ranges from $100,000 to $1 million.

The network aims to ‘replace the current Republican ecosystem of think tanks, media organizations and activist groups that have contributed to the party’s decline.’

Out of it has emerged 1789 Capital, an investment firm which backs anti-woke companies.

In the 2024 election Rockbridge’s super PAC, Turnout for America, spent $34.5 million and that is expected to grow.

In addition, the network oversees five political groups focused on financing right-wing investigative reporting, underwriting polls, turning out voters in battleground states and spurring churchgoers into political activism.

The Faithful in Action group aims to recruit churchgoers into political activism.

Vance spoke to Rockbridge’s members and donors gathered at a bi-annual retreat in April and other senior administration figures have attended summits

They include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

When the time comes the network’s resources are expected to be a powerful tool for Vance as he seeks to defeat any non-MAGA Republican primary challenger, and to extend the movement for at least another 12 years.

The infamous area is known for its wild and wacky conspiracy theories

The Bermuda Triangle is the focal point of a lot of conspiracies

Scientists have discovered a large mineral structure under the sea in the Bermuda Triangle, reigniting conspiracy theories about the notorious stretch of water.

Covering the area between Bermuda, Florida, and Puetro Rico, the Bermuda Triangle is noted for having an above average number of ships and aircraft go missing, though this is often exaggerated. Over the years such is the reputation of the triangle that it’s become the focus point of several popular conspiracy theories.

So it’s not hard to imagine why the discovery of a large underwater structure in the triangle has sent the internet into a frenzy of speculation over what it might mean. The theories extend from the more casual conspiracy theories up to the truly wild.

Atlantis features high on the list, with some speculating that this is the rediscovery of the lost city itself. “Are we finally gonna stop pretending the city of Atlantis vanished ‘without a trace’?” one person wrote on social media.

Others also went for the theory of an ancient civilisation, with one person writing on X: “What if a highly advanced civilization that is many millions of years old built an underground centre of the earth lair to live and survive and they are still there? It explains them poaching people that enter the Bermuda triangle as well.”

Some theories are little different, as one person commented: “It’s a portal to hell, protected by demonic principalities, witches and wizards. There are cities beneath the oceans run by evil demons.”

Scientists have found a 12.4-mile-thick layer of rock beneath Bermuda

But what have scientists actually found there? Well, it’s not an ancient city, but it is an important geological discovery which could shed light on how the area is structured.

Using seismic studies, the scientists found a rock some 12.4 miles thick under the oceanic crust beneath Bermuda. That thickness has not been recorded in a similar geological layer anywhere else in the world.

William Frazer is a seismologist at Carnegie Science in Washington D.C. and the lead author on a new study. He told LiveScience: “Typically, you have the bottom of the oceanic crust and then it would be expected to be the mantle, but in Bermuda, there is this other layer that is emplaced beneath the crust, within the tectonic plate that Bermuda sits on.”

Scientists still don’t know quite how the rock came to be there, but it could explain why Bermuda sits on what’s called an ‘oceanic swell’, where the sea bed is higher than the surrounding areas. Normally this is the result of volcanic activity depositing material on the sea floor, but there is not that level of activity in the Bermuda Triangle, making the origin of the swell a mystery.

Former Pakistan prime minister and cricketer Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been jailed for 17 years for buying state gifts at a knock-down price.

Luxury watches and jewellery were gifted to Khan while he was prime minister by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during official visits.

Under Pakistani law, if government officials and politicians wish to keep gifts received from foreign dignitaries, they must buy them from the state at the market value – and declare any proceeds earned from selling them.

But prosecutors said Khan, 73, and ‌his wife paid a heavily ⁠discounted fee for the gifts – violating Pakistani rules.

The couple pleaded not guilty when they were indicted last year.

Prosecutors argued he and his wife declared the value of the gifts at little over $10,000 (£7,500), far below their actual market value of $285,500 (£213,000), allowing them to purchase the items at a reduced price.

They were handed 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment under Pakistan’s penal code for criminal ‌breach of trust, and a further seven years under anti-corruption laws, Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency announced.

The latest conviction adds to a series of legal setbacks for Khan, who has been behind bars since August 2023, and is currently serving a 14-year sentence in a separate corruption case.

He faces dozens of cases filed since he was ousted from office in 2022, ranging from corruption ‍to anti-terrorism and state secrets charges.

Khan has denied wrongdoing in all the cases, which his party says are politically motivated.

In a recent interview with Sky News’ The World with Yalda Hakim, Khan’s sons said they fear they might never see their father again.

The former prime minister has been in prison since his arrest in August 2023.

They also claimed he was being “psychologically tortured” in a “death cell”.

Khan is one of the country’s most celebrated cricketers, who captained his country to World Cup victory in 1992.

Khan’s jail term from Saturday’s ruling would begin after he has served the 14 years from the separate land graft case, information minister Attaullah Tarar said.

Zulfi Bukhari, a spokesperson for Khan, said the verdict “ignores basic principles of justice” and turns the process into “a tool for selective prosecution.”

Khan has reportedly told ‌his legal team to appeal the decision at the Islamabad High Court.

Khan, a former cricket star turned politician, remains one of Pakistan’s most polarising figures.

His Pakistan ‍Tehreek-e-Insaf party – which was founded in 1996 – remains sidelined from power.

A trove of documents related to the child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was has been released by the US justice department. Comprised of thousands of files, the cache shows photographs of the late financier and his accomplice, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, alongside some of the most significant figures from the last century.

The images help illustrate the relationships Epstein and Maxwell forged with royalty, politicians, musicians and actors.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year jail sentence for child sex trafficking and Epstein died in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial. He was convicted of child sex offences in a separate case in 2008.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

There are several pictures of Mounbatten-Windsor in the cache of files released on Friday, appearing to show how he gave Epstein and Maxwell access to British high society.

One undated picture shows the former prince, now 65, reclining across the legs of five women, with Maxwell smiling down at him. Sky News said on Saturday it believed the picture was taken at Sandringham, the royal estate in Norfolk where King Charles and his family will this week spend Christmas. The broadcaster said it had cross-referenced the image with other pictures taken there.

Another photograph, believed to have been taken in June 2000, shows the trio in the royal box at Ascot. A third image appears to show them hunting at Balmoral, the Scottish home of the royal family, but it is unclear when it was taken.

Bill Clinton

Clinton, who served as president of the US between 1993 and 2001, is pictured in several of the images released on Friday. The 79-year-old is shown relaxing in a hot tub and swimming in a pool. In other photos, he poses with Maxwell, the musicians Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and Mick Jagger and the actor Kevin Spacey. Like many of the images in the cache of documents, they are not dated.

Clinton socialised with Epstein in the late 1990s and early 2000s, before the financier’s first arrest. Clinton has not been accused of wrongdoing by any survivors of Epstein’s abuse and has always denied knowledge of the late financier’s child sex offending.

Angel Ureña, Clinton’s spokesperson, said the photographs were more than 20 years old and that the politician had ended his friendship with Epstein when his crimes emerged.

“There are two types of people here,” Ureña said. “The first group knew nothing and cut Epstein off before his crimes came to light. The second group continued relationships with him after. We’re in the first. No amount of stalling by people in the second group will change that.”

Peter Mandelson

Mandelson, who was recently sacked as the UK’s ambassador to the US after details about his friendship with Epstein emerged, is pictured looking on as Epstein blows out candles on a large birthday cake. Although the image was part of the cache of documents released on Friday, it has been published before.

The Labour peer, 72, is understood to have been close to Epstein since the early 2000s, describing him in a 50th birthday message as “my best pal”. Epstein was introduced to the then British prime minister, Tony Blair, in May 2002 in a meeting understood to have been facilitated by Mandelson, a former MP and cabinet minister.

Mandelson chose to continue his friendship with Epstein after the financier’s conviction for child sex offences in 2008, encouraging him to “fight for early release”. In September, shortly before he was forced out as ambassador, Mandelson said: “I regret very, very deeply indeed carrying on that association with him for far longer than I should have done.”

Michael Jackson

The singer is pictured posing with Epstein next to a large painting in an image released on Friday. In a separate picture published as part of the cache of documents, he appears next to Clinton and fellow singer Diana Ross.

The pictures of Jackson have not been dated by the justice department and it is unclear where they were taken. There is no suggestion Jackson was aware of, or involved in, any of Epstein’s crimes.

Mick Jagger

The 82-year-old lead singer of the Rolling Stones is pictured with Clinton and an unidentified woman. The woman’s face has been redacted, but the trio appear to be in cocktail attire. The US justice department did not reveal where or when the photograph is supposed to have been taken.

Jagger has not yet responded to the release, but there is no suggestion he was involved with, or aware of, Epstein’s crimes.

Kevin Spacey

The actor is pictured in a group with Maxwell and Clinton in Winston Churchill’s war rooms, the secret underground meeting place for the British cabinet during the second world war. This image is understood to have been taken in 2002, when Clinton travelled to the UK to address the Labour party conference.

There is no information to suggest Spacey, 66, was involved with, or aware of, Maxwell and Epstein’s crimes and he has not yet made any comment on the documents.

Separately, Spacey was acquitted of nine sexual offences during a criminal case in 2023.

A court in Pakistan on Saturday sentenced former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison after being found guilty of corruption.

The court’s decision is the latest setback for Khan, who has been accused in multiple cases since he was ousted in 2022.

Khan, who is 73, has been in prison since 2023. He denies the charges, accusing Pakistani authorities of politically persecuting him.

What was the case against Khan and his wife?

Khan and Bibi were found guilty of retaining, selling and underpricing state gifts while the former prime minister was in office.

The gifts they were accused of selling at vastly reduced prices included jewelry from the Saudi Arabian government.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman presented a jewellery set made by the Italian luxury brand Bulgari to Khan and his wife in May 2021.

Prosecutors said Khan and his wife had said the value of the gifts was just over $10,000, well short of their real market value of $285,521 (€243,780).

According to Pakistani law, government officials and politicians are allowed to keep gifts received from foreign dignitaries if they are under a certain value. To keep the gifts, they must purchase them at market value and declare the proceeds from any sale.

Khan and Bibi were sentenced to 10 years for criminal breach of trust and seven years for corruption.

Saturday’s sentencing is separate from an earlier case against the couple. In that case, Khan and his wife were sentenced to 14 and seven years, respectively.

What has been the reaction to Khan’s sentencing?

Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, has said the couple will appeal the ruling.

A spokesperson for Khan, Zulfiquar Bukhari, slammed the sentence, which he said “raises serious questions about the fairness and impartiality of the process, turning justice into a tool for selective prosecution.”

Khan’s party, the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party (PTI), also condemned the ruling.

In a statement, it called the decision “a black chapter in history.”

In a post on X, the party said Khan’s family had been barred from the court when the verdict was announced at the Adiala prison in Rawalpindi.

“A closed-door jail trial is neither free nor fair. It is, in fact, a military trial,” PTI said.

While Khan’s supporters and party roundly condemned the verdict, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the court had “delivered a fair decision.”

Khan was removed from power in a no-confidence vote in April 2022. His PTI party is in opposition in parliament.

Despite the multiple corruption convictions, Khan — a former cricket star who captained the national team — remains a popular figure in Pakistan.

A former Hamas hostage told Fox News Digital that he warned Australian leaders to take antisemitism more seriously months before the deadly shooting at Bondi Beach.

Eli Sharabi, who spent 491 days as a hostage in Gaza, said the attack on Bondi Beach was “crazy,” but far from unpredictable. Sharabi told Fox News Digital that while in Australia in June, he met with Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Foreign Minister Penny Wong and warned them that rising antisemitism would lead to something worse.

Sharabi recalled telling the officials that a hate crime would take place in Australia and that he would “see the fears” of Jewish people walking on the streets. He urged them to speak out against antisemitism before it was too late.

He recounted to Fox News Digital the moment he told Marles and Wong, “When it happens, a hate crime here, it will be your responsibility because you have to have a stronger voice against antisemitism.” Though, Sharabi said he did not know why he told them that at the time.

“Unfortunately, it happened. And that’s crazy, it’s crazy. Really, I’m so sorry for that,” he said.

A spokesperson for Wong said that she “deeply appreciated her meeting with Eli Sharabi and thanks him for sharing his insights and experiences.”

“Minister Wong has consistently condemned antisemitism and antisemitic attacks,” the spokesperson said. “In response to the horrific antisemitic terror attack at Bondi, we are further strengthening laws against those who spread antisemitism and online abuse, ensuring our education system properly responds to antisemitism, and lowering the threshold to cancel visas for those who come to Australia to spread antisemitism.”

The spokesperson also conveyed Wong’s sympathies to the loved ones of the Bondi Beach shooting victims.

Sharabi told Fox News Digital that the attack on a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach that left at least 15 dead and dozens wounded, reminded him of the persecution of European Jews in the 1940s.

“Suddenly you feel like it’s the 1940s again, and we are in 2025, 90 years later, all these things are happening again,” Sharabi said.

On Feb. 8, 2025, Sharabi was released from Hamas captivity, 491 days after he was taken hostage from Kibbutz Be’eri during the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre. He did not know until after he was freed that his wife, Lianne, and their daughters, Noiya and Yahel, had been killed when Hamas terrorists attacked Israel.

Since his release, Sharabi has traveled the world speaking to Jewish communities, world leaders and various audiences about his experience as a hostage, something he recounted in his book, “Hostage,” which has been translated into multiple languages.

After he was released, he learned that while he was in the hands of terrorists, there were people around the world praying for him and demanding he and the other hostages be freed.

He said that while he was in the hospital in the days following his release, he was slowly exposed to the work that people in Israel and around the world did to advocate for him and the other hostages. It started with revelations about his family and friends, then his realization that people in Israel and around the world also took part in the fight for his release.

He soon joined the fight, advocating for the release of all hostages, including Alon Ohel, someone who Sharabi bonded with during his time in captivity.

“It was an amazing feeling to see him released. He’s like my son,” Sharabi told Fox News Digital.

Sharabi said that he and Ohel have seen each other a few times as free men and that they try to speak every day.

Sharabi told Fox News Digital about his life after captivity. Now a free man for nearly a year, he said he appreciates every moment.

“First of all, I’m alive. Second, I’m free, and I’ve learned that freedom is priceless,” he said. “Every morning I wake up, I say thank you very much for what I have and for my freedom, and I can be able to choose whatever I do that day and not to ask permission from anyone to eat or drink or speak,” he told Fox News Digital. “I’m happy with my life. The memory of my wife, my daughters and my brother will be with me until my last day.”

Sharabi told Fox News Digital that while in captivity, he promised himself that he would move his family to London, where they could live a peaceful life. He said that he made the decision because of the fear he saw in his daughters’ eyes on Oct. 7.

While his plans on relocating to London have changed, Sharabi envisions himself living a quiet life and focusing on his own healing once the body of Ran Gvili, the last remaining hostage in Gaza, is returned to Israel. However, Sharabi said that he cannot go back to Kibbutz Be’eri and that he will likely seek a fresh start a bit further north in central Israel.

“I can’t go back to Be’eri. It’s something I need to solve with myself and with my therapist, of course. How can I get into my house again? For me, living in Be’eri, it’s not an option. In every corner, I can see the tragedy,” Sharabi said. “I need a new place, a new restart for my life, so it cannot be in Be’eri.”

The Department of Justice (DOJ) released thousands more files in connection with the investigations into sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein on Friday, Dec. 19.

On Nov. 19, President Donald Trump signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which requires the DOJ to make all documents related to the investigations publicly available and searchable. The bill was approved unanimously in the Senate, and it passed 427-1 in the House.

The files can be accessed on the DOJ website, on a page titled “Epstein Library.” The accessible files include five categories: Court Records; DOJ Disclosures, Including Disclosures Under the Epstein Files Transparency Act; Freedom of Information Act (FOIA); and House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Disclosures.

The DOJ’s latest disclosure of files is comprised of five different data sets, containing roughly 3,900 files.

The newest batch of files includes a wide range of documents and photos, including a full scanned copy of the book Massage for Dummies, a fully redacted 119-page grand jury filing and a police report in which a young woman alleges that Epstein threatened to burn down her house.

The DOJ stated in a privacy notice that “all reasonable efforts have been made to review and redact personal information pertaining to victims, other private individuals, and protect sensitive materials from disclosure.”

“That said, because of the volume of information involved, this website may nevertheless contain information that inadvertently includes non-public personally identifiable information or other sensitive content, to include matters of a sexual nature,” the statement said.

While the agency released files on Dec. 19, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that the agency would not be able to release the Epstein files in full, despite the Act’s requirement that all files be released within 30 days.

In a post to his X account, Blanche said that the DOJ needed more time to complete redactions in the hundreds of thousands of pages of documents related to Epstein’s investigation.

“Additional responsive materials will be produced as our review continues, consistent with the law and with protections for victims,” Blanche wrote.

Blanche said in an interview with Fox News that his office expects to release “several hundred thousand more” documents related to the Epstein investigation “in the next couple weeks,” The Hill reported.

These files, which were released without context, were collected as part of the investigations into Epstein’s crimes before he died by suicide in jail in 2019.

The files include images of Epstein with co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell and others, including Trump, former president Bill Clinton, former Prince Andrew, Michael Jackson and more high-profile figures.

In a statement posted on his X account, Clinton’s chief of staff Angel Ureña responded to the document release.

“The White House hasn’t been hiding these files for months only to dump them late on a Friday to protect Bill Clinton,” the statement claims in reference to the administration of President Donald Trump, who is also seen in photos from the Epstein files. “This is about shielding themselves from what comes next, or from what they’ll try and hide forever. So they can release as many grainy, 20-plus-year-old photos as they want, but this isn’t about Bill Clinton. Never has, never will be.”

Liverpool parade attacker Paul Doyle told a web of lies when he was first interviewed by police. And they will likely come back to haunt him in prison, experts have warned

The ex-marine who used his car “as a weapon” to plough into a helpless crowd of Liverpool FC fans while “in a rage” will endure a bleak existence in prison, experts have revealed

Paul Doyle, 54, initially told police that he acted in “panic” on that fateful day, even blaming his actions on fans for making him “fear for his life”, but his lies soon unravelled when investigators discovered harrowing dashcam footage that told a different story.

The haunting video showed Doyle shouting angrily, swearing and beeping his horn as the car rammed into pedestrians in the crowd. Victims were thrown onto his bonnet and trapped under his vehicle, but he continued to mow through the sea of terrified fans. Gasps of horror were heard in the courtroom, packed full of victims and their families, as the footage was shown.

The court heard how Doyle’s police interviews were littered with fake claims and outright lies, blaming the fans for his actions. He claimed a bottle had been thrown, that he’d seen someone with a knife and even claimed he stopped as soon as he realised he had struck someone down. It was all lies.

The senseless attacker has now been sentenced to 21 years and six months in prison after 134 Liverpool parade attendees were hurt in the attack, some who have been left with serious injuries, PTSD and ongoing trauma. After learning his fate, there was no reaction from Doyle as he was taken down from the dock by prison officers at Liverpool Crown Court.

With the widespread agony he has caused to more than 100 victims, and having tried to pin the blame on the helpless fans whose day of celebrations turned into life-changing horror, experts have warned that Doyle’s prison experience will be anything but comfortable. Here we look at what his life inside will really look like…

Prison conditions

Before sentencing, Doyle was treated as an Category A inmate in prison. Category A prisoners are regarded as the most dangerous, who if they were to escape, would pose the most threat to the public. He was reportedly being checked around the clock due to fears of reprisals from other inmates. A source said: “A lot of inmates, especially at northern prisons, will have had friends or relatives at the parade so it’s not hard to see why he might be targeted.”

Speaking with the Mirror this week, Nusrit Mehtab, former MET super and senior lecturer in policing and criminal justice revealed that Doyle will likely be put in category B to live out his sentence, rather than category A. Ms Mehtab explained: “He could start off on a category A and then go to category B, but I think it will probably be category B. And in a category pre-prison, he will be held in a closed prison regime with locked wings, controlled movement and regular head counts.”

She continued: “He’ll have interaction with other prisoners but it’s structured through regulated associated periods, so when they can go out. Staff will monitor his behaviour, intelligence, his risk, his interaction. They’ll keep a good eye on him and do regular reports.”

Considering what Doyle’s day-to-day routine might look like on the inside, the crime expert revealed: “Prisoners do get an education, they get exercise. Whether he’ll be kept away from other prisoners is yet to be seen, I don’t think he’ll immediately go into isolation. That doesn’t happen. But they will keep a close eye on him to make sure that he doesn’t get attacked.”

‘Tough time’ inside

Doyle initially denied all charges but tearfully changed his plea at the 11th hour, just before trial. His oldest victim, 77-year-old Susan Passey, suffered multiple fractures after being trapped under Doyle’s car with an 11-year-old boy and two other pedestrians. The youngest was six-month-old Teddy Eveson, who was thrown about 15 feet down the road in his pram when the crash happened.

Commenting on the last-minute plea change, criminologist and psychologist Alex Izsatt told The Mirror: “His lawyers may have persuaded him to change the plea on the evidence presented as the chances of acquittal or even a more favourable verdict were very slim. A late guilty plea can limit the reduction in sentence, the court will have to weigh the number of victims, severity of injuries, and the scale of risk.

She added: “As it’s a high profile case, Paul may start in a high security prison, and be moved at a later date, depending on good behaviour. If he’s prone to emotional breakdowns, they may provide segregation or protective custody initially. It’s likely he will face a tough time from other inmates due to the range of victims as well as the fact he drove into football fans.”

Ms Mehtab agrees that Doyle likely won’t have “an easy ride behind bars”, noting: “The nature of his crime means he’s [become] quite notorious, and prisoners will know that. I don’t think he’ll get an easy ride behind bars, certainly. He’s unlikely to receive any kind of easy passage through the prison system, simply because of who he is or because he might be harmed.”

“I think there’ll be a heavy stigma amongst inmates. Unlike gang-related, one-to-one violence, this was an act where innocent people were injured all at once. And so that will place him low in the informal prisoner hierarchy. They won’t look upon him as favourably. Attacking ordinary people who pose no threat to him [will] be viewed as cowardly and indiscriminate violence.

“Prisoners also have their own hierarchy. And prison culture can be brutal in terms of its judgement and offences that resemble attack on innocent members of the public. I don’t think he’ll get an easy ride. He’s got huge national publicity. And so it won’t be easy for him initially.”

Doyle’s criminal past

Many questions emerged about the ex-marine’s career and home life before his sentencing, and now his previous criminal convictions have been revealed for the first time. Paul Greaney KC, prosecuting, told the court that Doyle enlisted in the Royal Marines at age 19, after a short stint in the Royal Engineers. He signed up for 22 years’ service but was discharged in January 1993, just 22 months after enlisting.

Doyle did not see active service and was discharged on a basis that his services were no longer required, the court heard. Mr Greaney also revealed that Doyle had both civilian and service convictions. When Doyle was in the Royal Engineers in 1989, he committed a military offence equated to common assault and was give seven days’ detention, he said. In March the following year, aged 18, Doyle was fined for a minor offence of dishonesty.

And in October 1991, at the end of Paul Doyle’s 32-week training period for the Royal Marines at the Commando Training Centre in Lympstone, Devon, he had what he later described as a “scuffle” with men in a nightclub. He said after he was thrown out, the men were waiting for him and he “got the better of them”.

Doyle has three teenage sons

He punched another person in the face several times and was convicted of a section 20 assault and fined by Exeter Magistrates’ Court. In February 1992, he was convicted of two military offences – one of using violence to a superior officer and one of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline – and in July that year he was convicted of a military offence equivalent to criminal damage, the court heard.

Doyle also has a previous conviction for biting someone’s ear off. The prosecutor said Doyle was jailed for 12 months in November 1994 for causing grievous bodily harm after biting off the ear of another man in a fight in July the previous year. When he was interviewed by police earlier this year after the parade incident, he said he had become involved in a drunken fight with sailors.

The final previous offences he was convicted of before his guilty pleas last month were a minor offence of dishonesty and breach of the peace in Scotland in December 1993, the court heard. Mr Greaney said between the ages of 18 and 22 Doyle was convicted of offences, including serious violence.

He said: “The prosecution recognises that in the 30 years between his release from prison in May 1995 and his dreadful actions on May 26 2025, the defendant had taken steps to live a positive and productive life. During that period, he was convicted of no offences. He went to university. He worked, including in positions of responsibility. He had a family. Those efforts to rehabilitate himself after a difficult early adulthood only serve to make more shocking and tragic what he did in Liverpool that day this May.”

The senseless Liverpool attack left the city in complete shock, as well as those who know Doyle. In his local community, he was known as a man who attended church, consoled those struggling with grief with gifts, and offered to help out with jobs. One neighbour, who asked not to be named, told the Liverpool Echo how he was seen as “Mr Healthy Dude.” He said: “He meditates, doesn’t drink and he would go out on the grass outside in his bare feet to ground himself. He was a fit guy. He hasn’t drunk for as long as I have known him.”

Photos shared on social media depict Doyle enjoying various holidays overseas, including trips to Disneyland, Florida, Dubai and beach getaways, the ECHO reports. Online accounts show Doyle to be an extensive traveller, having visited several Asian nations, including Japan, Fiji and India, and Australia. Photographs uploaded online also capture the keen runner partaking in triathlons and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Doyle appears to have used the FarOut Caps Twitter/X account as his own personal page, where he would post about popular shooter video game Fortnite and cryptocurrency, a topic of particular fascination for him.

Doyle followed just 11 accounts, but this short list includes several controversial figures, including Reform leader Nigel Farage, Elon Musk, and ‘manosphere’ influencer Andrew Tate. Doyle regularly links out to a YouTube account, fis30, which contains 645 videos. Most of these cover Fortnite, while some videos discuss the SafeMoon cryptocurrency scheme.

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been sentenced to 17 years in prison after a Pakistani court found them guilty of illegally retaining and selling valuable state gifts.

The sentence, handed down on Saturday, capped a years-long saga that saw the duo accused of selling various gifts – including jewellery from the Saudi Arabian government – at far below market value. They have denied all charges.

In order to keep gifts from foreign dignitaries, Pakistani law requires officials to purchase them at market value and to declare profits from any sales.

But prosecutors claimed that the couple profited from the items after purchasing them at an artificially low price of $10,000, compared with their market rate of $285,521.

Khan’s supporters were quick to denounce the ruling, with his spokesperson Zulfikar Bukhari saying that “criminal liability was imposed without proof of intent, gain, or loss, relying instead on a retrospective reinterpretation of rules”.

His party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, wrote on social media that the proceedings were a “sham” and criticised international media coverage of the case.

The 73-year-old former leader served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 2018 until April 2022, when he was ousted in a no-confidence vote.

He was imprisoned starting in August 2023 on various charges of corruption and revealing state secrets, all of which he has denied and claimed to be politically motivated. He has been acquitted of some charges.

An internationally famous cricket player in the heyday of his sporting career, Khan remains popular in Pakistan, with his imprisonment leading to protests throughout the last two years.

The former leader is now confined to a prison in the city of Rawalpindi and “kept inside all the time”, his sister, Uzma Khanum, told journalists earlier this month.

Khanum, a doctor who was the first family member allowed to visit Khan in weeks, described him as “very angry” about the isolation, saying that he considered the “mental torture” of imprisonment to be “worse than physical abuse”.
