The former southeast spokesman to President Bola Tinubu and Chairman of forum of former members of Enugu Assembly, Denge.Josef Onoh, had strongly defended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation of the former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister for Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami.

In a statement from his residence in Marne-la-Vallée Paris, Onoh said the current investigation by the EFCC was no witch-hunt or politically motivated. 

Onoh, while recalling Abubakar Malami’s background prior to his appointment as AGF in 2015, said that his career was primarily that of a dedicated legal practitioner and politician from Kebbi State. 

Born on April 17, 1967, in Birnin Kebbi, Malami received a solid education, blending Islamic and Western systems, culminating in an LL.B from Usmanu Danfodiyo University (1991), and was subsequently admitted into the Nigerian Bar (1992), and elevated to Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2008. 

Onoh further said that Malami’s professional career centered on private legal practice, including roles at firms such as K.T. Turaki & Co., as a magistrate and state counsel in Kebbi, and as principal partner of A.A. Malami & Co. (2002–2015), a litigation-focused chambers handling civil, criminal, and commercial cases without any record of massive financial payoffs from successful litigations.

He recalled that Malami was also actively involved in opposition politics, serving as National Legal Adviser to the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), contributing to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013, and contesting (unsuccessfully) the APC governorship ticket in Kebbi in 2014. 

“I therefore challenge Malami to make public his asset declaration prior to 2015,” Onoh challenged.

Onoh said that there are no credible public records of Malami owning or operating substantial private businesses—such as hotels, universities, rice mills, or large-scale investments—before his appointment as AGF. 

“His pre-2015 wealth and income appear tied exclusively to his successful legal practice and modest public service roles. He established philanthropic foundations like the Kadi Malami and Khadimiyya Foundations for community development, but these were charitable, not commercial ventures and this was the Abubakar Malami I know.

“However, after serving as AGF from 2015 to 2023, Malami has been linked to an extensive portfolio of high-value assets, including the multi-billion naira Azbir Hotel and Azbir Arena in Birnin Kebbi (recently taken over by police amid probes), Rayhaan (or Rayhan) University, Rayhaan Rice Mill, private academies and multiple properties in Abuja, Kano, and Kebbi. 

“These assets, estimated in petitions to the EFCC at over ₦10 billion, which I personally believe were underestimated, are alleged to be disproportionate to his known legitimate earnings before and during public office.” 

Onoh said that this sudden accumulation of wealth, emerging prominently post-tenure, raises serious questions about its sources and legitimacy—questions that rightfully demand thorough investigation by the EFCC.

Onoh further stated that the ongoing EFCC probe, as of December 2025, focuses on allegations including abuse of office, money laundering, mismanagement of recovered Abacha loots (notably claims of duplication in recovering $310–$322.5 million tranches and questionable legal fees of up to $16.9 million paid to associates), and unexplained assets and not a witch-hunt.

“While he denies wrongdoing, describing the probe as politically motivated “witch-hunt” tied to his recent political activities, I make bold to say that Malami welds no strong political influence in kebbi state to warrant any witch-hunt by even a local government chairman in his state, let alone the EFCC and his calls for the EFCC Chairman’s recusal is simply laughable.  

“His continuous reference to chapter 9 of the Justice Salami Report only shows the desperation of a drowning man, let me make clear to Malami that the said justice Salami Report was so beneficial to the progress of Nigeria yet he withheld it all these years and only now he thinks it serves his personal purpose that it becomes relevant.  

“In a country like China, such revelation by Malami would have earned him a death sentence for sabotaging a nation. One can not come to a document and only accept a page that benefits him, you either accept as a whole or refuse as a whole. The petitions from credible groups like HEDA and others warrant independent scrutiny.”

Onoh challenged Malami to refute his narrative of his humble beginnings prior to his unexplainable wealth, which the EFCC in discharge of their mandate will soon explain which onoh said will be more explosive than Abacha’s loot. 

Onoh furthermore said that the Malami he knew was actively engaged in politics, particularly with opposition parties leading to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC):

“Malami was appointed Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice by late President Muhammadu Buhari, becoming the youngest minister in the cabinet at age 48. He was re-appointed in 2019 and served until May 2023.

“Prior to this role, the Malami I know was primarily a prominent private legal practitioner in Northern Nigeria, a senior advocate with public service experience, and an influential figure in opposition politics contributing to the APC’s formation.”

Onoh challenged Malami to provide any credible records indicate involvement in high-profile federal roles or Tax payments of a successful thriving business venture before 2015.

“Malami’s attempts to discredit the EFCC—alleging bias, vendetta, and intimidation—appear designed to deploy every resource at his disposal to blackmail and undermine the agency. As a former Chief law officer, he should submit fully to investigation rather than resist or deflect.”

Onoh said that his hypocrisy is stark when recalling Malami’s role in the controversial naira redesign policy of 2022–2023. Himself, late Gov.Rotimi Akredolu of blessed memory and  Mallam Nasir El-Rufai (then Governor of Kaduna), were the only Governors that were bold to support his stand against naira design solely aimed at frustrating  Bola Tinubu’s presidential ambition to the detriment of all Nigerians publicly opposed the policy, highlighting its devastating hardship on ordinary Nigerians, questionable timing ahead of elections, and potential political motivations. 

“I recall El-Rufai described it as a mistake that deceived President Buhari and caused unnecessary suffering. I publicly attack the then CBN governor Godwin Emefiele (currently under investigation) and Malami especially for misleading Buhari into unconstitutional actions, such as bypassing consultations with the National Council of State or Federal Executive Council. I called the both   “public enemies” for defending the policy amid public hardship. The Supreme Court ultimately ruled (March 3, 2023) the policy unconstitutional in parts, extending old notes’ validity to December 31, 2023, Yet same  Malami vigorously defended it in court and publicly, even as the federal government under his legal advice disregarded Supreme Court interim orders suspending the deadline, leading to contempt threats and eventual ruling that parts were unconstitutional and criticizing late President Buhari’s unilateral directives.

“Later, the presidency (March 2023) stated that Buhari never instructed Malami or Emefiele to disobey court orders. This speaks volumes about the moral and professional character of the man that’s today accusing and blackmailing the EFCC and the Chairman of witch-hunt. He is safer under EFCC custody than at the mercy of Nigerians. Him and his convoy was attacked and nearly killed by the mob in his hometown resulting from the frustrations he subjected Nigerians under his watch while living in unearned opulence.

“Finally, as the custodian of the law tasked with recovering and protecting national assets—including billions in Abacha loots—Malami stands accused of re-looting or mismanaging the very funds he was mandated to safeguard. This betrayal of public trust is profound.

“Every right-thinking Nigerian must rise in defence of the EFCC. Allow the agency to perform its statutory duty without fear or favour. Corruption fights back fiercely, but accountability must prevail for Nigeria’s progress,” Onoh stated.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has announced that Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassadors will assume duty in their respective countries in 2026, pending final clearance and confirmation by the National Assembly.

Idris disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at an end-of-year press conference in Abuja.

According to him, the deployment of ambassadors will strengthen Nigeria’s bilateral relations, boost the country’s global visibility and deepen strategic engagement.

“In 2026, our newly appointed ambassadors will take up their posts in their countries of assignment.

“Their clearance and confirmation have just been completed by the National Assembly,” Idris said.

He noted that the decision followed public pressure for diplomatic postings and said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had responded to those concerns.

“For months, there were cries and agitation for ambassadors to be put in their posts. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled that,” he said.

Idris added that while several stages of the deployment process had been completed, outstanding elements would be concluded next year.

“The remaining part will be carried out in 2026,” he noted.

He stressed that the postings would reinforce Nigeria’s diplomatic presence across sectors and advance national interests abroad.

Ghana’s parliament has approved the legalization of cryptocurrency, marking a significant step toward regulating the fast-growing digital asset market in the country.

The move addresses concerns raised by the Bank of Ghana over the widespread, unregulated use of virtual currencies.

The central bank is seeking to enhance transparency and oversight in the crypto sector following reports that nearly 3 million Ghanaians—about 17% of the adult population—are involved in cryptocurrency transactions.

What BOG Governor is saying 

The passage of the Virtual Asset Service Providers Bill will pave the way for licensing crypto platforms and supervising their activities, Bank of Ghana Governor Johnson Asiama announced over the weekend in Accra.

He said this trend has direct implications for the management of the cedi, Ghana’s official currency.

Asiama emphasized that the new law will ensure that “emerging activity is brought within clear, accountable, and well-governed boundaries.”

Benefits for businesses and consumers 

Governor Asiama added that regulatory oversight will “lower costs for banks, improve customer experience, support small and medium-sized enterprises and traders.” 

By formalizing the sector, the Bank of Ghana hopes to balance innovation with financial stability, while creating a safer environment for investors and businesses engaging in digital assets.

Ghana’s crypto market in context 

Crypto transactions in Ghana reached $3 billion in the year through June 2024, according to estimates by Web3 Africa Group, an Accra-based company planning to establish crypto exchanges across the continent.

In comparison, Nigeria recorded $59 billion in crypto trades during the same period, accounting for nearly half of sub-Saharan Africa’s total volume of $125 billion.

What you should know 

In October, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Dr. Emomotimi Agama, had said that Nigeria witnessed cryptocurrency transactions exceeding $50 billion between July 2023 and June 2024.

With an exchange rate of N1,500 to the Dollar, the amount translates into N75 trillion, about two-thirds of the capitalization of the Nigerian equities market capitalization of N98.8 trillion as of Friday, October 24.

Speaking at the annual conference of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Agama said the sheer volume of digital asset activity underscores both the financial sophistication and risk appetite of Nigerian investors — a demographic the traditional capital market has failed to attract.

Despite this vibrant crypto engagement, the SEC boss lamented that fewer than four per cent of Nigeria’s adult population actively invests in the country’s capital market.

While less than three million Nigerians are registered market participants, he noted, over 60 million citizens engage daily in gambling, wagering an estimated $5.5 million every day.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division to step up offensive operations and decisively eliminate criminal elements operating within their area of responsibility.

The directive was issued during the Army Chief’s maiden operational visit to the 2 Division Headquarters at Odugbo Barracks, Ibadan, where he addressed officers and soldiers drawn from various formations under the division.

According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS commended the troops for their resilience, professionalism and operational effectiveness in combating banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality across the division’s area of operations

Lieutenant General Shaibu said he had been comprehensively briefed on ongoing operations and expressed satisfaction with the notable successes recorded so far.

He urged the troops to sustain the current tempo and remain relentless in their pursuit of criminals.

“I have been thoroughly briefed on your operations and the remarkable successes you have achieved. I commend your efforts and urge you to maintain the momentum. Go after kidnappers and other miscreants wherever they may be — in forests, bushes or other hideouts — and ensure these criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum,” he directed.

Beyond operational directives, the Army Chief reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of personnel, describing troop morale as a critical factor in achieving mission success.

He disclosed that approvals had been granted for the renovation of existing accommodation as well as the construction of new residential facilities within the barracks.

He further enjoined officers and soldiers to take responsibility for the proper maintenance of existing facilities, stressing the need for a conducive living and working environment to support sustained operational effectiveness.

Lieutenant General Shaibu concluded by assuring the troops that the welfare of personnel would remain a central pillar of his command philosophy as the Army continues its efforts to enhance internal security across the country.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state on Monday had a brief closed door meeting with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja. 

The brief meeting held shortly after the governor signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill at an event which held at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governors office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan. 

The meeting, which was observed to be unscheduled, held at the Coffee Room opposite the photo gallery stage of the Exco Chamber.

The details of the meeting remain unclear as at the time of this report.

It was observed that, shortly after the signing of the 2026 Appropriation Bill, the governor and the dignitaries who attended the event were on the way to take group photographs at the photo gallery stand when the Governor invited both the Alaafin and Olubadan into the coffee room.

The budget signing event was attended by traditional rulers, political office holders, lawmakers, the judiciary among other relevant stakeholders.

The meeting lasted barely 15mins, as other dignitaries waited patiently at the photo gallery standing awaiting the arrival of the gove for and the monarch.

However, observers believed the meeting could be based on the need for unity and togetherness between the two first class monarchs.

The social media was recently enmeshed with reports of acrimony and class tussle between the foremost monarchs over perceived superiority tag.

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding allegations that the former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Mr. Farouk Ahmed, spent about US$5 million on the secondary education of his children abroad.

Obi said the amount, if invested locally, could have made a significant impact in reducing Nigeria’s out-of-school children population and strengthening the country’s education system.

He made the remarks in a post titled “The Farouk Controversy and the Question of Public Responsibility,” shared on his official X handle on Monday.

According to Obi, businessman Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, had alleged that Ahmed spent about $5 million on the education of his four children in Switzerland, and had called for a full investigation and public explanation.

“At current exchange rates, $5 million is approximately ₦7.5 billion. In a country with over 18 million out-of-school children — the highest number in the world — such allegations raise questions about proportionality, public trust, and moral responsibility,” Obi said.

He stressed that the issue was not about parents investing in their children’s education, but about the scale and context of such spending when linked to a public official in a country grappling with widespread poverty and inequality.

“Education is one of the greatest legacies a parent can give a child. No reasonable person begrudges parents for investing in their children’s future. The concern here is the moral implication when such resources exist alongside massive educational deprivation,” he added.

Obi outlined what he described as a hypothetical alternative use of ₦7.5 billion within Nigeria’s education sector. According to him, the amount could fund the construction of 25 school blocks at ₦35 million each, accommodating about 6,000 students annually.

He said each school block could employ 18 teachers, creating jobs for about 450 teachers nationwide. With a proposed monthly salary of ₦125,000 per teacher, the annual wage bill would amount to ₦675 million.

Obi further explained that after accounting for construction and first-year salaries, the remaining funds could be invested in government bonds, generating returns sufficient to cover maintenance, learning materials, utilities, meals, and recurring salaries, thereby creating what he described as a self-sustaining education system.

“In simple terms, the amount allegedly spent on the education of four children could establish a self-funding education ecosystem that educates 6,000 Nigerian children every year and employs 450 teachers,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor reiterated his long-held position that public office holders must be guided by prudence, accountability, and a strong sense of public responsibility, especially in a country facing severe social and economic challenges.

Officers of NDLEA during the operation

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Niger State command, has disclosed that on November 20, 2025 it’s operatives has arrested a Sharon vehicle in Suleja local council of Niger State, loaded with 50,000 tablets of Diazafan,30,000 Ifnux Tablets, 5,406 bottles of Coding Syrups as well as 5,100,000 Tramadol tablets.

The Niger State Commander of the agency,Shehu Numau Gwadaba, made the disclosure while speaking to newsmen on the land mark successes recorded by the command from January to December 2025, across the state.

He explained that the seizure was from one person alone.

The NDLEA commander further revealed that in the first week of December 2025, its operatives also intercepted a Mercedes truck loaded with (44) bags of Cannabis Sativa weighing over 400 Kilograms in Mokwa local council of Niger State, adding that the driver of the vehicle was equally arrested.

According to Gwadabawa, “There was a single time we seized over three tones of Cannabis, arrested four persons, and four vehicles. When they were taken to court, each of them was jailed for 10 years, because what was recovered from them was huge – 244 bags weighing over 3,000 Kilograms.”

Commander Gwadabawa had earlier hinted that his personnel made another seizure in Borgu local council of Niger State, which included 11 bags of Cannabis and some quantity of Tramadol, saying that the local government is another area that had issues of banditry and the criminals would like to channel the substances towards the area.

He added, “Again, we arrested one Thiopilus Ordo in Suleja with Cocaine, Cannabis and Cough Syrups and others. It is quite worrisome.”

The commander urged those engaged in drug activities to quit the trade or relocate, warning that its operatives will catch up with them anywhere there are hiding in the state.

He appreciated the unwavering support of the public for cooperating with the agency.

President Donald Trump has suspended the US diversity visa lottery following a shooting at Brown University that killed two students and renewed debate over the immigration programme.

The decision came after authorities confirmed that the suspect, Portuguese national Claudio Neves Valente, entered the United States through the diversity immigrant visa programme in 2017 and was later granted permanent residency. 

Tribune Online reports that the 48-year-old Valente, was found dead on Thursday in New Hampshire. Police said his death appeared to be self-inflicted.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the programme was paused at Trump’s direction to “ensure no more Americans are harmed by this disastrous programme.” 

Writing on social media, she said Trump had long opposed the visa lottery and previously sought to end it after a deadly truck-ramming attack in New York City in 2017.

The diversity visa lottery provides up to 50,000 green cards each year through a random selection process for applicants from countries with historically low immigration rates to the United States.

US officials also believe Neves Valente was responsible for the killing of Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor, Nuno F Gomes Loureiro, home in Brookline, Massachusetts, earlier in the week. 

Investigators linked the two cases after reviewing CCTV footage showing the suspect’s rental vehicle near both locations. After a six-day search across several states, police located Valente’s body in a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire, along with firearms and personal items. 

Evidence from a nearby vehicle was matched to the Brown University shooting, according to Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha.

Brown University president Christina Paxson said Valente had studied for a PhD in physics at the university during the 2000–2001 academic year but had no current connection to the school.

The shooting occurred on 13 December when a gunman opened fire inside Brown University’s engineering building during final examinations.

The victims were identified as Ella Cook, 19, of Alabama, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, 18, an Uzbek-American freshman. Nine others were injured.

The security wing of the organisation has contributed immensely to curtailing insecurity in Iwoland and has contributed immensely to securing Iwo as the most peaceful town in South Western States”.

Oluwo stated the unprecedented achievements of the group in promotion of quality education and entrusting adequate security inspired him to honour and confer the title of the GrandMufty of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta on the founder, Sheikh Dahood Imran Molaasan.

A statement released by Oluwo through his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, reads, “The media report of the existence of a terrorist group in Iwo is false and unfounded. Iwo remains the most peaceful town in South Western States promoted by the activities of Jaysu Security Network, an annexe of Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen under the leadership of Sheikh Dahood Imran Molaasan”

The North Central leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Tunde Ogbeha, has emphasized the need for collective efforts to advance the party’s interests in Kogi State.
