We’ve been having crisis before Gov Adeleke came – Former Accord Party presidential aspirant
Former presidential aspirant of the Accord Party, Prof Christopher Imumolen, says the party has been having internal crisis before Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State defected to it.
Prof Imumolen made this disclosure on Monday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on ‘The Morning Brief’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST.
He was reacting to the internal political wranglings confronting the party.
“I have been fighting this battle before now. I went to court, that’s a sign of fight. We have had issues in the party Secretariat where we went there and we fought our issues.
“What I’m saying is that we just kept quiet because in the party, sometimes, we don’t want members of the public to know about our internal issues.
“We have been having these fights. If you check many publications, I have attended a lot of interviews to talk about this.
“So, whether Adeleke came or not, we are in charge of the party and we are doing what we are doing today to save the face of the party. And to make sure that whatever happens, the party remains intact,” he said.
The Federal Government has designated kidnappers and violent armed groups as terrorists, escalating Nigeria’s response to abductions, attacks on farmers and community violence.
The announcement was made by Information Minister Mohammed Idris at the end-of-the-year press briefing in Abuja on Monday.
This signals a shift from treating mass kidnappings and rural attacks as ordinary crimes to confronting them with full counterterrorism measures.
What Idris said
Idris said the new designation gives security agencies broader authority to pursue, disrupt and dismantle criminal groups terrorising communities.
“Henceforth, any armed group or individual that kidnaps our children, attacks our farmers, and terrorises our communities is officially classified and will be dealt with as a terrorist,” the minister said.
He added that the policy shift would strengthen intelligence sharing and operational coordination across security and intelligence agencies, enabling faster and more decisive responses.
Highlighting recent progress, Idris disclosed that improved collaboration had already yielded results.
“In 2025, two of the most internationally wanted criminals were captured through the coordination of our security agencies and those in the intelligence community,” he said.
The tougher stance comes amid growing concern over the use of forests and remote rural areas by kidnappers, bandits and insurgent groups as safe havens, particularly in farming and border communities.
According to the minister, the forest guard initiative is intended to close these gaps by combining surveillance, local intelligence and rapid-response capabilities in hard-to-reach areas.
“Trained and equipped forest guards will be deployed to secure our forests and other vulnerable locations,” Idris said, stressing that criminal groups would no longer enjoy ungoverned spaces.
The move builds on earlier efforts to boost inter-agency coordination and strengthen territorial control beyond major cities.

Hospital Breaks Silence on Patient’s Death, Rejects Allegations of Negligence – THISDAYLIVE

The management of Gynescope Specialist Hospital has responded to widespread media reports and online commentary surrounding the death of Mrs. Akudo Lovelyn John, describing some of the narratives in circulation as inaccurate and misleading.
The deceased’s husband, Mr. Justice John, had described his wife’s death as “sad, painful and completely avoidable,” alleging lapses in emergency response and contradictory explanations by the hospital.
In its response, the hospital expressed condolences to Mr. John, the family, and loved ones of the deceased, acknowledging the pain associated with the loss.
It said its initial decision not to comment publicly was deliberate and intended to allow the family space to grieve without public controversy.
According to the hospital, the continued circulation of what it described as incomplete and distorted narratives made it necessary to clarify the circumstances surrounding Mrs.
The hospital stated that the deceased was attended to by qualified and experienced medical professionals who acted promptly and in accordance with established medical standards and protocols.
It maintained that all reasonable and available medical interventions were deployed in sustained efforts to save her life, including extraordinary measures such as voluntary blood donation by compatible members of its medical and management team.
Gynescope Specialist Hospital said some reports fail to present a full or balanced account of events and risk unfairly calling into question the professionalism and integrity of healthcare workers involved in what it described as a case of non-obstetric mortality.
The hospital added that it remains fully cooperative with relevant regulatory and statutory authorities and reaffirmed its commitment to ethical medical practice and patient-centred care.
It also urged the media and the public to exercise restraint, empathy, and responsibility in reporting on the matter as the family continues to mourn.
A clash between Itsekiri youths of Ugborodo and neighbouring Ogidigben riverine Itsekiri communities in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, at the weekend, left one person dead and a house burnt.
The victim, Emiko Onuwaje, was reportedly attacked and killed along a road in Ogidigben, an incident that triggered outrage and heightened tension across the Ugborodo axis.
Hours after the killing, the residence of Capt. John Deja Okpeyor was set ablaze by angry youths. Okpeyor had earlier the same day been installed as a chief of the Warri Kingdom.
As of press time, details surrounding the incident remained sketchy. However, the killing and subsequent arson occurred amid reports of a youth leadership tussle in Ogidigben, which allegedly led to the mobilisation of youths to confront perceived opponents within the community.
Community sources, however, maintained that Onuwaje was not involved in any mobilisation or attack on any residence. They said he was assaulted and killed on the road by unknown assailants, describing the incident as a criminal act that should not be linked to wider community disputes.
Security presence was reportedly reinforced in parts of Ugborodo and Ogidigben to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, for comments were unsuccessful as calls and a text message sent to him were yet to be responded to. However, it was gathered that at least four suspects had been arrested in connection with the killing of Onuwaje.
The Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has terminated the appointment of one its senior staff over sexual molestation. The council also demoted the school’s deputy registrar for negligence of office.
The institution said the action was to maintain and enforce its strict disciplinary posture.
In a statement by Uredo Omale, Director, Public Relations and Protocol, said, “On disciplinary matters, council approved the demotion of Mr. Audu Mathew, a Deputy Registrar, to the rank of Principal Assistant Registrar, on account of negligence of duty.
“In the same vein, council approved the termination of the appointment of Mr. Mukhtar Muhammed, an Administrative Officer II, for sexual molestation.
“Similarly, Mrs. Funmilayo Afolabi, an Assistant Chief Executive Officer, had her appointment terminated for absconding from duty for nine (9) months”.
Meanwhile, the Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, approved the promotion of 11 Principal Lecturers to the rank of Chief Lecturers and 572 other teaching and non-teaching members of staff of the institution.
The statement said, “This was part of the far-reaching decisions made at the 72nd Regular Meeting of the Governing Council presided over by the Chairman, Barrister Sani Shaibu, held on Friday, 19th December, 2025, at the Polytechnic’s Council Chamber.
“Those promoted to the rank of Chief Lecturer on the recommendations of the Appointments, Promotions, and Disciplinary Committee (AP&DC) include Mr Ehimony James Baba Tunde and Mrs Ajayi Omolola Felicia (School of Applied Sciences); Engr. Anikoh Godwin Ateiza (School of Engineering Technology); Dr. Acharu Faith Tony-Okeme and Dr. Raji Abdulwasiu Adeyemi (School of Management Studies); Mrs Akinola Hope Ojochide, Mrs Olayiwola Grace Eleojo, and Mr Aminu Fasasi Olanrewaju. (School of General and Communication Studies); Mr Boluromi Samuel Sunday and Mr Salawu Abdulazeez (School of Preliminary Studies); and Arc. Dr. Thompson Ochedi Ekele (School of Environmental Technology).
“Council also approved the recommendation that 49 academic staff and 71 non-teaching staff be promoted for the 2024 promotion exercise, and further approved the promotion of 225 academic staff and 227 non-teaching staff for the 2025 exercise.”
The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, expressed heartfelt appreciation to members of the Governing Council for their presence at the meeting, describing it as a clear reflection of their steadfast commitment to the institution’s growth, stability and sound governance.

While outlining management’s recent strides, the Rector highlighted several key achievements, including the prompt release of students’ results, enhanced security across campuses, the successful payment of the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions to deserving staff of the School of Management Studies and the School of Applied Sciences, and the provision of a new borehole to improve water supply within the institution, among others.
Prof. Usman also informed Council of the uncovering of a result forgery syndicate involving one Mr. Henry Tope, who was apprehended in possession of thirty (30) Statements of Result and one original certificate, all bearing the name and insignia of the Polytechnic.
Professor Usman also informed Council of the appointment of the Polytechnic’s Deputy Registrar (Senior Establishment), Mrs. Glory Ojochogwu Yakubu, as the substantive Registrar of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the 10th Governing Council, Barrister Sani Shaibu, commended the Management of the Polytechnic for its resolve to strengthen institutional discipline, transparency and academic standards, stressing that Council would not condone any act capable of undermining the integrity of the institution.
Barrister Shaibu reiterated that the Governing Council of the Polytechnic would continue to provide the necessary support and policy direction required to reposition Kogi State Polytechnic as a centre of excellence, while urging staff to adhere strictly to rules, regulations and professional ethics in the discharge of their duties.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified enforcement of traffic regulations in Cross River State with the deployment of mobile courts and special intervention patrols, as part of strategies to curb traffic infractions during the end-of-year travel rush.
The Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, CC Innocent Etuk, disclosed this during an interview, explaining that the initiative, known as Operation Zero, commenced on December 15 and will run until January 15, 2027, to address the anticipated surge in vehicular movement during the festive season.
According to him, the operation is aimed at ensuring free flow of traffic, reducing road crashes and checking excesses of motorists, especially during a period when many Nigerians travel to celebrate the holidays or visit loved ones.
“As part of our mandate, we are empowered to identify intervention patrols and also conduct mobile court sittings. Since I assumed office in June, we have conducted four mobile courts. A total of 157 motorists were arraigned; 153 were convicted, while four were discharged,” he said.
He noted that traffic offences such as overloading and attempts to bribe FRSC personnel remain the most prevalent violations. Within the period under review, he said no fewer than 384 motorists had been booked for attempting to corrupt officers, while overloading cases recorded between the third and fourth quarters stood at about 548 incidents.
The commander lamented the attitude of some commercial motorcyclists and tricycle (keke) operators who often operate without valid driver’s licences, stressing that no motorist is above the law.
“Once you are on the road, the law binds you. Many power bike riders and keke operators feel they are above the law, but the only thing that qualifies you to be behind the wheel is a valid driver’s licence,” he said.
He explained that special squads, including the command’s “crash squad,” have been deployed to focus specifically on corruption-related offences and overloading, adding that joint night patrols with sister agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), had also yielded positive results.
On inter-agency collaboration, the FRSC boss described the relationship with other security agencies in the state as “very cordial,” noting that joint operations had strengthened enforcement and compliance.
He said the command’s aggressive enforcement drive had paid off, as Cross River State ranked third nationwide in booking motorists who attempted to bribe FRSC personnel in the last quarter.
Ahead of the annual Calabar Carnival, the sector commander assured residents and visitors that adequate manpower and strategies were already in place to manage the expected influx of vehicles into the state.
“Our men are already on the roads. We have mapped out strategic locations such as the Christmas Village, Eight Miles, 11-11 Roundabout and entry points from Odukpani. We are running multiple shifts, including late-night operations, to ensure free flow of traffic,” he said.
He stressed that early deployment of personnel remained key to traffic management, noting that preventing gridlock was more effective than responding after congestion had built up.
The commander also disclosed that the long-standing backlog of driver’s licences had been cleared nationwide, with Cross River State currently recording about 5,196 unclaimed licences across its centres in Calabar, Ikom and Ogoja. He urged motorists who had completed their capture to visit the relevant centres or Board of Internal Revenue offices to collect their licences.
Calling for a collective approach to road safety, he emphasised that drivers, passengers and pedestrians all had roles to play in reducing crashes and fatalities.
“Road safety is a collective responsibility. We want a paradigm shift where everyone obeys traffic rules and takes responsibility for their safety. Our goal is to build a strong safety culture in Cross River State in line with national road safety strategies,” he said.
He also commended the Cross River State Government for providing a conducive working environment for the command and praised residents and transport unions for their cooperation, expressing optimism that sustained enforcement and awareness would continue to change attitudes and improve compliance on the state’s roads.

In anticipation of a significant influx of visitors into Osun State during the Yuletide season, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has deployed 1,700 personnel to ensure the safety of lives and adequate protection of critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.
The State Commandant of NSCDC, Osun State Command, Igbalawole Sotiyo, disclosed this at the State Headquarters, noting that a comprehensive security arrangement aimed at guaranteeing a peaceful and hitch-free celebration has been put in place.
The Commandant said, “The festive period usually records a significant rise in human and vehicular movement as residents and visitors stream into the state, thereby requiring strengthened security arrangements.
” Area Commanders and Divisional Officers have been directed to strategically deploy personnel to places of worship, markets, motor parks, recreational centres, Critical Infrastructure and other identified flashpoints across the state.”
He further issued a marching order to all Divisional Officers to remain proactive and vigilant, stressing that the Command is working in close synergy with sister security agencies to ensure round-the-clock security before, during and after the festivities.
Commandant Sotiyo made it known in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, that the deployment is reinforced with intensified visibility patrols, intelligence-led operations and rapid response teams to promptly address any security threat.

The Achi Clan of Oji River Local Government Area, Enugu State, on Sunday unanimously adopted Governor Peter Mbah as their consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election, citing what they described as his uncommon leadership style and remarkable performance in office.
The endorsement, which effectively shut out any opposition members as far as they are concerned, was made at a grand civic reception organised in honour of the governor at the St. Mary’s Field Court, Achi.
The event attracted thousands of supporters from the over nine electoral wards that make up the clan, which accounts for well over half of Oji River population.
Leaders of the clan, traditional rulers, political office holders, youth and women groups, took turns to applaud the governor for what they said were visible transformations across Enugu State within a short period. They declared that the decision to back him for a second term was already settled and irreversible.
Speaking, the Chairman of Oji River Local Government Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chima Achiekwelu, said the reception was organised to appreciate the governor for his “great work and uncommon leadership” which, according to him, had rapidly transformed Enugu State.
“There is nobody in this country today, who is not aware of your giant strides in Enugu State,” the monarch said.
“It will take the whole day to start listing your projects. This reception is to assure you that you will win your second tenure unopposed here. It has been ordained by God and accepted by us as a consensus.”
Igwe Achiekwelu declared that the entire Achi Clan had resolved to adopt Governor Mbah as its sole candidate for 2027, stressing that no vote meant for the governor would be lost to any opposition member.
He added that traditional rulers, as grassroots mobilisers, had closed ranks to ensure total support for the governor’s re-election.
In an address presented by Dr Okey Ibeabuchi, Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee, on behalf of the Achi Clan, the people expressed deep gratitude to the governor for what they described as an epoch-making visit and for restoring purpose, clarity and direction to governance in the state.
They commended his administration’s investments in Smart Green Schools, primary healthcare, agriculture, security, tourism, the Enugu International Conference Centre and the launch of Enugu Air, noting that those initiatives had restored pride and confidence among the people of Enugu State.
The clan also acknowledged the governor’s recognition of traditional institutions and the inclusion of Achi sons and daughters in government, listing several appointees from the area serving in key capacities.
Achi clan also appealed for the full operationalisation of the four Development Centres created in Oji River Local Government Area, arguing that Achi’s population size and number of wards justified the allocation of two of the centres to the clan.
They further appealed for key infrastructure projects, including the Achi–Ehuhe–Udi Road and the Achi Court–Amankpunato–Amoli–Ihe Road, the establishment of a tertiary institution campus in Achi, and the rehabilitation of Achi Joint Hospital.
Earlier, the Chairman of Oji River Local Government Area, Engr. Greg Anyadike, praised Governor Mbah for what he described as people-oriented governance, thanking him for the Green Smart Schools and Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres sited across the wards in the council area.
He pledged the Council’s full support for the administration’s programmes and policies.
Responding, Governor Mbah said he was deeply honoured by the reception, describing Achi Clan as an integral part of Enugu’s history and identity.
He said the support and affection shown by the people would never be taken for granted.
The governor reaffirmed that his administration’s vision was anchored on inclusivity, equity and sustainable development, explaining that projects were deliberately designed to be ward-based and grassroots-focused, highlighting the presence of over nine smart green schools and multiple Type-2 primary healthcare centres in Achi, as well as extensive road projects tied to the administration’s commitment to deliver at least 10 kilometres of roads per ward.
He also announced that the Achi–Ehuhe–Udi Road and the Achi Court–Amankpunato–Amoli–Ihe Road had been captured in the budget estimates for 2026, assuring that mobilisation to site would commence before the next rainy season.
He further disclosed plans for massive agricultural estates across wards, aimed at moving farmers from subsistence to mechanised farming, alongside the upgrade of the veterinary school in Achi and the elevation of the School of Health Technology to a full nursing college to an OND and HND-awarding institution.
“I want to assure you that the trust and mandate you have given us, we hold sacred. We will further strengthen our public service, live by the social contract with you and continue to serve you with all our strength,” Governor Mbah added.

Kwara State Governor, Malam Abdulraham Abdulrazaq on Monday presented a budget of N644b to the state legislature, for the 2026 fiscal year.
The total size of the proposal is N644,004,816,893.00, with 65.98% of the fiscal plan earmarked for capital expenditure, while the rest (34.02%) takes care of recurrent spending.
Presenting the budget to the state House of Assembly, Governor Abdulrazaq, explained that the allocations point to the direction the government is headed in the new year, saying it will focus more on completing ongoing projects and investing in areas of urgent needs such as security hardware, vehicles, and technology to enhance response to kidnapping and activities of bad faith actors.
“The budget of Consolidation and Sustained Growth” is built around the following national economic outlook for the year: oil price of US $64.85; daily oil production estimates of 1.84m barrels per day; exchange rate of N1,400 per US dollar; and GDP growth of 4.68%,”he said.
He expressed the confidence that the projects, once completed, will expand the economic base of the state, make the environment more conducive for business, provide fertile grounds for job creation and sustainable development, and free up more resources to deepen social protection for the poor.
“Our budget has never been a mere proposal. It has consistently delivered on our promise to leave Kwara far better than we met it, including restoring its place as a leading state in the country.
“In the outgoing year, we completed 38 roads totalling 108kms and another 29 interlock access lanes across the state. Yet, 264.202kms of roads are at different stages of completion across the three Senatorial Districts.
“As of today, the Innovation Hub stands completed, growing our tech economy by more than $20m and offering great values to all. We have also achieved significant milestones across key projects, including the Kwara Hotel, International Conference Centre, Patigi Regatta Motel, Dada Pottery, Shea Butter Factories, Shonga ICT Complex, Prototype Primary School Adeta, Revenue House, and Indoor Sports Hall, Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hospital, alongside investments in agriculture across different value chains,” he added.
Governor Abdulrazaq, further noted that very impressive achievements were also made across education, water, and health sectors, while Both campuses of Kwara State University in Osi and Ilesha Baruba have since been delivered, extending education opportunities to the people.
“The 2026 budget is critical for our legacy as an administration, and I urge this Honourable House to expedite legislative action on it.”
In his speech, the Speaker, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, commended the governor for the achievements recorded and assured a speedy consideration and passage of the appropriation bill.
The Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government has declared December 25 and 26, 2025, as well as January 1, 2026, public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day, and the New Year celebrations.

He indicated that the declaration was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

“The Christmas season and the New Year present an opportunity for Nigerians to strengthen the bonds of unity, show compassion to one another, and renew our collective commitment to nation-building,” the Minister stated.
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo also enjoined citizens to remain law-abiding, security conscious, and moderate in their celebrations, while cooperating with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and safe festive period.
The Minister wished all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
