Let’s be honest, most 14-year-olds would jump at the chance to perform at every club, festival, and private event during the busy “Detty December” season. But Champz didn’t. Wizkid’s son, already one of Nigeria’s most promising young talents with hits like debut single ‘Champion Sound‘ and whose first music project, Champion Arrival, includes tracks like Champion Montana, Grind, Superstar, and Champiano decided to say no. This shows how focused he is to priotize growth.
This isn’t hesitation; it’s a careful choice. At 14, balancing school, personal growth, and a growing music career is already hard. Add the pressure of live shows, adult audiences, and media attention, and it’s easy to see why rushing him into fame could be harmful. Look at past young stars like Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, and Macaulay Culkin. They were talented, but fame at a young age caused serious problems. Talent alone doesn’t mean someone is ready but how to control it matters, and Champz and his family understand that.
Champz’s mum shared on X that he received many offers to perform during “Detty December”, clubs, concerts, festivals, private events, and brand shows but he turned them all down. Some fans even thought he might perform at his father Wizkid’s concert on the 28th, but that seems unlikely now. This isn’t because he can’t perform; it’s because his management wants to protect him from pressure he isn’t ready for.
Growing up in a musical family as his father is Wizkid, and inspired by artists like J Hus, Asko, Nines, and Clavish, Champz is developing his own style, a mix of Afrofusion and rap. By taking time to improve his voice, build stage confidence, and develop his sound, he is being prepared for long-term success, not just a short viral moment.
In music today, young artists can become famous overnight and disappear just as fast. That’s why this careful approach is so important. Rushing young talents often kills creativity and makes them copy others instead of finding their own voice. By focusing on mental health, school, and learning skills instead of chasing fame, Champz’s mum is giving him a strong foundation.
Saying no to concerts isn’t avoiding work. It’s investing in himself: improving his music, gaining confidence, and creating a career that lasts. His upcoming releases in 2026 are part of a careful plan that focuses on growth first. In my opinion, this is exactly what young artists need: patience, guidance, and time to grow without being overwhelmed by fame.
Champz’s choice shows smart planning: focusing on learning, growth, and health over instant fame. This boycott is more than temporary, it’s a statement. It’s about valuing growth over fame, skill over clout, and building a lasting career. For a 14-year-old in one of the toughest industries, this is a very smart move.

Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has provided the public with an update on the ongoing controversy between her and Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Grace Nation Bible Ministry.
Earlier, Tori News reported that the actress was arrested by the Lagos State Police on Saturday for dragging Chris Okafor after he allegedly failed to fulfill his marriage promise to her.
She was released on Monday afternoon after spending two nights in police custody, where the pastor allegedly begged her for a peaceful resolution.
However updating the public about the current state of her issues with the clergyman, Doris, who has earlier requested compensation from Okafor, disclosed that table talks and resolution are ongoing.
“Talks is going on now, resolution is ongoing at the moment. I’m still in Lagos, I’m not back in Abuja. I want to know where it’s heading, and I want to know the end of this table talk. I will come back, and I will seek God’s face.
“I will ask God the next direction, what should I do because at the moment, I don’t know what to do. I will ask for his wisdom, what should I do, because I have a lot to say, I have a lot I want to reveal, I have a lot I want the world to learn from this.
“At the same time, I don’t want to have anyone’s blood on my hand. This is still bad than anyone thinks. I haven’t said anything. What I just said online is nothing to what I’m about to say before my arrest.
“But I will leave everything to God and pray and seek his direction to let him direct me on how best to go about it. I’m not afraid of anyone, I’m not afraid of going to jail. All I want is to speak my truth, and my truth I will speak,” she said.

Speaking on the Echo podcast, JJC alleged that Don Jazzy, Dbanj, Ayo and DJ Abbas “conspired” against him at a time when he believed they were meant to help him connect properly with the Nigerian music industry.
Veteran Nigerian rapper and singer JJC Skillz has made bold claims regarding his fallout with Don Jazzy and other members of the former Mo’Hits crew.
Speaking on the Echo podcast, JJC alleged that Don Jazzy, Dbanj, Ayo and DJ Abbas “conspired” against him at a time when he believed they were meant to help him connect properly with the Nigerian music industry.
According to him, it was Cass who introduced Don Jazzy to him, while Ayo came with DJ Abbas. JJC said he met them through their TV station and openly told them he needed help getting introduced to the right people in Nigeria.
He claimed that Don Jazzy recorded a song with him, while Dbanj also had his own song, but unknown to him, the group allegedly had other plans.
JJC said he later heard from Ruggedman that the band had been making statements about him, including claims that he was cheating them and refusing to pay them.
Reacting to those allegations, JJC insisted he was shocked, stressing that he housed them, fed them, clothed them, and took them to shows.
“How can I be cheating you when you haven’t made any money?” he asked, adding that at the time, he was the one introducing them and putting them out there.

The rapper in punk duo Bob Vylan will not face further action over his “death death to the IDF” chants at Glastonbury Festival, police have said.
Rapper Bobby Vylan, real name is Pascal Robinson-Foster led crowds on the festival’s West Holts Stage in the chants about the Israel Defence Forces during the group’s performance in June.
Avon and Somerset Police said a criminal investigation was under way shortly afterwards, with a senior detective appointed to lead the investigation.

But in a statement released on Tuesday, the force said: “We have concluded, after reviewing all the evidence, that it does not meet the criminal threshold outlined by the CPS for any person to be prosecuted.
“No further action will be taken on the basis there is insufficient evidence for there to be a realistic prospect of conviction.”
The force said it conducted a voluntary interview with a man in his mid-30s in November over the incident, adding he was informed of the outcome earlier on Tuesday.

A throwback video of Nigerian international artist Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake or Mr Money, visiting the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye, in 2018 has resurfaced on social media following his recent trip back to Ile Ife, Osun State.
Asake recently made headlines after arriving at his alma mater, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), by helicopter and paying a courtesy visit to the Ooni’s palace. He was accompanied by his mother, socialite Yhemolee, actor Lala, and his entourage.
This wasn’t Asake’s first encounter with the palace. Back in 2018, before gaining fame, he had visited alongside content creators Broda Shaggi and Yemi Elesho, also known as Broda Nuru. Clips from that visit showed a young Asake playfully sitting on the floor near the Ooni, while another video captured him popping balloons with excitement.
Asake’s rise to stardom came in 2022 when YBNL boss Olamide signed him to the label. Soon after, he began performing on international stages, including a sold-out show at the renowned O2 Arena.
Returning to Ile Ife as a celebrated artist, Asake was warmly welcomed, with many, including the Ooni, proudly recognizing him as a distinguished son of the town.

Russell Brand has been charged with further counts of rape and sexual assault, police have said.
They relate to two further women and are in addition to the charges issued to the comedian and actor in April, which involved four women.
He had been previously charged with two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault.
Brand has pleaded not guilty to the earlier charges.
He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 20 January 2026 in relation to the two additional charges.
His trial is scheduled to begin at Southwark Crown Court on 16 June 2026 in relation to the five original charges.
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi from the Metropolitan Police, who is leading the investigation, issued an appeal for witnesses.
He said: “The women who have made reports, including those connected to the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers.
“The Met’s investigation remains ongoing, and detectives urge anyone affected by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak with police.
“Support is also available through the independent charity Rape Crisis by contacting the 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.”

An airport official has come under heavy online criticism after he was caught on video allegedly ass@ulting a young man for posing beside a helicopter that flew singer Asake to his alma mater, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Monday, December 22.
The video showed the young man posing in excitement beside the parked helicopter.
One of the officials had accosted the young man and asked to leave the area where the helicopter was parked.
The man in fear bowed before the officer and asked to be forgiven if he had committed any offence. The officer walked away and left the man to continue posing beside the helicopter.
Just as he left, another officer charged towards the man, kicking him with his boot and slapping him for posing beside the helicopter.
The video has sparked outrage online with many calling for the officer to be sanctioned for ass@ulting the said man.

Reginald D Hunter: Summons against comic by Campaign Against Antisemitism quashed for seeking to have him ‘cancelled’ | UK News
A judge has quashed a summons against comedian Reginald D Hunter, brought privately by Campaign Against Antisemitism, ruling it “abusive” and intended to get the comedian “cancelled”.
The 56-year-old US comic had been accused of three counts of sending an offensive communication on three different occasions – 24 August, 10 September and 11 September last year – to Heidi Bachram on X.
District Judge Michael Snow quashed the summons on Tuesday at Westminster Magistrates’ Court following an application by the defence.
He ruled the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) charity’s motive in seeking to prosecute Hunter was “to have him cancelled”, and the prosecution was “abusive”.
The CAA describes itself as a volunteer-led charity, “dedicated to exposing and countering antisemitism through education and zero-tolerance enforcement of the law”.
In his ruling, Judge Snow said: “The CAA have demonstrated by the misleading and partial way in which it summarised its application and its wilful, repeated, failure to meet its disclosure obligations, that its true and sole motive in seeking to prosecute Reginald Hunter is to have him cancelled.
“I have no doubt that the prosecution is abusive.
“My view of the conduct of the CAA is consistent with them as an organisation which is not ‘playing it straight’ but is seeking to use the criminal justice system, in this case for improper reasons.”

‘Inadequate’ summary and failure to flag compliance probe
Judge Snow said the summary of Ms Bachram’s tweeting in the application case summary was “wholly inadequate”.
He added: “It did not reveal the extent of her tweets directed against Reginald Hunter in the period immediately preceding the complaints (her tweets were sent between 15 August and 11 September 2024).
“The summary misled me into believing that his comments were addressed to her involvement with the Jewish faith as opposed to his response to attempts that were being made to have him ‘cancelled’.”
The judge said the CAA had failed to inform him of a compliance investigation by the Charity Commission into the CAA in November 2024.
CAA accused of ‘weaponising’ the court
Hunter’s lawyer Rebecca Chalkley KC told the hearing on Tuesday that “very little was disclosed” to the judge and the “lack of candour” meant the summons should be quashed.
Ms Chalkley said: “It calls into question the whole juridical process as judges before issuing summonses need to have everything in front of them.”
The lawyer told the judge: “You were led to believe in papers in front of you that the CAA was no more than a charity, that it had no history – as since demonstrated as a vexatious litigant – no complaints, no criticism in parliament, no investigations by the Charity Commission.”
The lawyer added: “The CAA are weaponising and using the courts for their own political agenda and not just in this case.”
The CAA’s prosecutor Donal Lawler told the hearing that the charity had complied with its duty of candour.
Hunter regularly tours the UK and has appeared on comedy panel shows Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You and 8 Out Of 10 Cats.
A crowdfunding campaign he launched to help him cover his legal fees raised over £58,000 in less than six months.

Popular Singer, Baba Dee Blasts Corruption After Shocking Experience On Lagos Train System (Video)
Dare Fasasi, the Nigerian singer and activist, who is popularly known as Baba Dee, has condemned what he describes as entrenched corruption and mismanagement in Nigeria’s public systems, citing his recent experience with the Lagos train service as an example.
In a post shared on Instagram, Baba Dee said he had to abandon his car and use the train while in Lagos because of the severe traffic on the roads.
What he encountered, however, left him stunned.
According to him, train stations were “out of” Cowrie cards in December, one of the busiest commuting periods of the year.
“How does that even happen?” he asked.
The situation reportedly got worse at the Orile–Iganmu station, where Dare said an attendant was openly collecting bank transfers into his personal account to allow passengers board the train.
Commuters, he explained, paid because they had no other option.
“This is daylight robbery dressed up as public service,” he wrote.
Dare warned that such practices will quickly destroy public trust and k!ll train patronage, stressing that no system can survive when those meant to manage it treat it like a personal cash machine.
“You don’t sabotage a system and expect it to survive,” he stated.

According to him, some of the cases appeared to be hit-and-run incidents, while one body seemed to have been on the road for an extended period, raising concerns about delayed emergency response and poor investigation.
Iguma argued that the lack of surveillance infrastructure makes it extremely difficult to track accidents, identify perpetrators, or establish the facts surrounding road-related deaths. He stressed that CCTV cameras should no longer be seen as a luxury but as an essential public safety tool.
He urged authorities to take immediate action, warning that continued inaction could further endanger lives on Lagos roads.
