African Democratic Congress (ADC) has tasked Nigerians to pray for the country to get the right kind of leaders.

US Congressman Riley Moore has praised recent airstrikes in North-West Nigeria, describing them as a decisive measure to protect Christian communities and address the country’s ongoing security challenges.

Speaking on Friday via his X handle, Moore said the strikes, conducted in coordination with the Nigerian government, marked “just the first step to ending the slaughter of Christians and the security crisis affecting all Nigerians.”

“President Trump has been clear that the killing of Christians in Nigeria must end. As I stated at the outset: Do not test President Trump‘s resolve in this matter,” the congressman added.

The comments follow reports that US forces, under President Donald Trump’s direction, carried out airstrikes against ISIS-linked terrorist elements in North-West Nigeria.

In a separate statement, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that Washington acted with Nigeria’s cooperation.

“The President was clear last month: the killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria (and elsewhere) must end. The Department of War is always ready…Grateful for Nigerian government support & cooperation,” Hegseth wrote.

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed that the strikes formed part of structured security cooperation with international partners to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

Moore recently concluded a fact-finding mission in Nigeria to investigate attacks on Christian communities, describing the experience as deeply disturbing. Leading a five-member congressional delegation, he visited IDP camps, survivors of terrorist attacks, Christian leaders, and traditional rulers in Benue State.

The delegation also met with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi.

Moore earlier confirmed that President Trump tasked him and House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole to submit a report with recommendations by the end of the month, following Nigeria’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged Christian killings.

The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE) has called on the new chief executives of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Saidu Aliyu Mohammed, and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, to prioritise domestic refining over imported product.

CPPE made the call in a statement made available to Nairametrics.

The call is coming shortly after Saidu Aliyu Mohammed assumed duty as the new chief executive following the resignation of Ahmed Farouk.

Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan has also assumed duty following a handover from the immediate past Chief Executive, Gbenga Komolafe, who resigned last week.

What CPPE is saying 

CPPE stressed that strong and deliberate support for domestic refining must be an immediate and non-negotiable priority.

It called for government policy to clearly favour locally refined petroleum products through targeted fiscal, regulatory, and infrastructural support for both public and private refineries, while encouraging new investments in refining capacity.

“Nigeria must end the current distortion whereby imported petroleum products are made to compete with locally refined products under unequal regulatory and fiscal conditions. Genuine competition only exists when all operators function within the same policy, tax and regulatory environment,” CPPE noted.

The group added that a strong domestic refining base is fundamental to building a resilient, energy-secure economy, while also driving job creation, foreign exchange conservation, macroeconomic stability, and export-oriented refining capacity.

“The NMDPRA must therefore place domestic refining at the centre of its policy framework, in line with the President’s Nigeria-First policy direction and industrialisation agenda. This is not merely to protect investors, but to safeguard Nigeria’s long-term economic interests.”  

Upstream agenda: Boosting production 

On the upstream side, CPPE urged the NUPRC to prioritise crude oil and gas production growth by implementing policies that attract fresh investments across onshore and offshore assets.

The organisation said Nigeria must maximise the value of its hydrocarbon resources while the global energy transition accelerates.

“The NUPRC should prioritise production growth, investment facilitation and improved security, with a clear national objective of raising crude oil output to a minimum of two million barrels per day,” CPPE advised.

Expanded investment in gas production and strict compliance with domestic crude supply obligations to local refineries were also highlighted as critical priorities.

Resetting Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory architecture 

CPPE commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for resetting Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory architecture through the appointment of new Chief Executive Officers for the NMDPRA and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

According to CPPE, the appointments present a strategic opportunity to reposition the oil and gas regulatory environment in line with the administration’s commitment to energy sovereignty, security, self-reliance, and accelerated production growth.

“The new leadership of Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory institutions must urgently refocus sector priorities on reducing import dependence, expanding domestic capacity and catalysing investment across the entire oil and gas value chain,” CPPE stated.

What you should know 

The policy statement comes amid controversy in the downstream sector. Earlier this month, Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, accused the NMDPRA of releasing figures that did not accurately reflect production at its Lekki refinery.

• Dangote argued that the regulator’s reports only accounted for products evacuated from the facility, not those refined and held in stock.
• He also accused former NMDPRA Managing Director, Ahmed Farouk, of undermining domestic refining efforts by colluding with international oil traders and importers through the continued issuance of petroleum import licences. Dangote further alleged that Farouk funded the education of his children in Switzerland with millions of dollars without evidence of lawful income.

Farouk has since resigned his position as head of the NMDPRA.

CPPE concluded that the new petroleum regulatory leadership must define its direction around domestic refining, production growth, investment facilitation, and energy security if Nigeria’s oil and gas sector is to drive sustainable growth, industrialisation, and long-term economic resilience.

The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora has confirmed that all children and staff abducted from St Mary’s Catholic Schools, Papiri, in Niger State have been rescued and reunited with their families.

230 pupils and staff verified as rescued

Rev. Bulus Yohanna, proprietor of the school, said a total of 230 persons, including 204 pupils, 14 students, and 12 staff, were verified to have been abducted and later rescued through the combined efforts of the Federal Government, the Niger State Government, and security agencies.

“A joint verification exercise by the state government, security agencies and school authorities later revealed that not all parents were present during the exercise,” Yohanna said.

He explained that initial confusion after the November 21 abduction led to discrepancies in headcounts.

“Some pupils fled into nearby bushes and did not immediately return for the first headcount, while some parents were absent during verification.”

Initial headcount confusion explained by Diocese

According to Yohanna, an initial headcount showed 315 persons unaccounted for.

“A second and final verification conducted by the school authorities in collaboration with the Parents-Teachers Association established that an additional 35 persons had either not been abducted or had escaped earlier,” he added.

Yohanna thanked the government, security agencies, parents, the Christian community, the media, and the public for their prayers, patience, and support. He also prayed for healing and restoration for all affected families.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is edging closer to ending physical cargo examination at Apapa Port as preparations intensify for the full deployment of the FS6000 cargo scanner at APM Terminals, Lagos.

The move is move expected to significantly reshape cargo clearance at the country’s busiest maritime gateway.

The scanner, with a throughput capacity of about 200 containers per hour, has completed final test runs and simulation exercises, signalling readiness for operational rollout and a transition to non-intrusive, technology-driven inspections.

The development followed a working visit to the scanning site by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Oluyomi Adebakin, to assess pre-operational readiness and alignment with Customs’ trade modernisation agenda.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Isah Sulaiman, in a statement, said the initiative was part of a broader strategy to migrate to a paperless clearance environment in line with international best practices and improved trade facilitation.

According to him, the FS6000 scanner has successfully undergone all required simulations, marking a major milestone in Customs’ push to reduce manual intervention in cargo processing at Apapa Port.

Speaking during the inspection, Adebakin said the visit was aimed at ensuring a smooth transition to scanner-based examination.

 She described the deployment as “a critical step in modernising customs operations and improving efficiency at the nation’s busiest port.”

She disclosed that operational preparedness had reached about 80 per cent, noting that outstanding components required for full take-off were being addressed. Adebakin stressed that scanner deployment was a collective responsibility involving the Nigeria Customs Service, APM Terminals, and the Trade Modernisation Project.

Assuring port users of tangible business benefits, she said the scanner would deliver faster cargo clearance, reduced demurrage, improved compliance and enhanced ease of doing business across the port ecosystem.

“The FS6000 scanner has a throughput capacity of about 200 containers per hour,” Adebakin said, highlighting its suitability for high-volume port operations. She added that non-intrusive inspection would eliminate delays and cargo damage associated with physical examinations while also strengthening revenue protection.

On his part, the Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ICT-driven reforms and sustained stakeholder collaboration. He said the deployment underscored Customs’ resolve to modernise port operations, strengthen trade facilitation and improve transparency at Apapa Port.

For maritime operators, the imminent deployment signals a structural shift in cargo handling—one expected to decongest terminals, cut transaction costs and reposition Apapa Port for more competitive regional trade flows.

The Nigerian Army says its troops across theatres have neutralised terrorists and arrested suspected gunrunners in coordinated operations nationwide.

A credible Army Headquarters source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the troops had sustained offensive operations with remarkable successes.

The source said the troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 3, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, engaged terrorists at a crossing point near Magami village on Wednesday, while on a fighting patrol at Magami town, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara.

It added that two terrorists were neutralised during a firefight as well as recovery of two AK-47 magazines loaded with 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one belt of 7.62mm ammunition containing 54 rounds, and other sundry items.

“Similarly, at about 3:30 p.m. the same day, troops engaged terrorists during a fighting patrol around Kangiwa, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, forcing the criminals to flee.

“Items recovered from the encounter included one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and one motorcycle, while troops continue aggressive patrols to deny terrorists freedom of action.

“In another operation, troops of 17 Brigade, deployed at FOB Malumfashi in Katsina State, foiled a livestock rustling attempt during an ambush between Burdugau and Unguwar Matau villages.

“The terrorists fled after a firefight, abandoning 51 cows, 63 sheep and one donkey, which were later handed over to the Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government Area.”

The source said the troops of 12 Brigade, working with the Department of State Services (DSS), apprehended a suspected gunrunner during a joint operation in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly supplied an AK-47 rifle obtained from Nasarawa State to a criminal in Loko.

“Items recovered included a mobile phone and keypad, while the suspect is currently in DSS custody.

“In the same operation, troops rescued one kidnap victim at Aiyetoro Kiri in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, following the abduction of two civilians in Lokoja Local Government Area on Dec. 19.

“The rescued victim is receiving treatment at a military medical facility.”

The military source revealed that troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), repelled an attempted armed robbery at Tenti Community in Bokkos area of Plateau.

It added that the suspects fled, but six residents sustained injuries and were evacuated to hospital, while a manhunt for the attackers continues.

According to the source, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) apprehended three suspected gunrunners during a joint operation with the DSS at Igoje in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue.

“The suspects have been handed over to the DSS for further investigation.

A loud explosion suspected to have been caused by an explosive device has been reported at Jabo village in the Tambuwal Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.

The incident, according to residents, occurred at about 9 pm on Christmas night, eyewitnesses told The Guardian.
Sources said the unidentified object allegedly landed in the community and detonated with a loud bang. No casualties were recorded, as the device reportedly did not explode in the midst of residents.

Nasir Jabo, a resident of the area who confirmed the incident to our correspondent in Sokoto, said the explosive sound sparked fear among residents, many of whom initially mistook it for an attack.

The police are yet to officially confirm the incident, as a message sent to the police spokesman in the state, DSP Ahmad Rufai, has not been replied to at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, United States President Donald Trump on Thursday confirmed that U.S. forces carried out deadly airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists in northwestern Nigeria, vowing further attacks if militants continue killing Christians.

Trump disclosed this in a post on his Truth Social platform, stating that the U.S. Department of War executed what he described as “numerous perfect strikes”.

“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians,” the president wrote.

“I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was,” he added.

Trump further said the United States would not allow radical Islamic terrorism to thrive under his leadership, ending the post with a Christmas message.

In a separate post on X (formerly Twitter), U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said he was “grateful for Nigerian government support and cooperation”.

“The President was clear last month: the killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria (and elsewhere) must end. The Department of War is always ready, so ISIS found out tonight on Christmas,” Hegseth wrote.
U.S. Africa Command also confirmed the operation, stating in an X post that multiple ISIS terrorists were killed in Sokoto State.

“At the direction of the President of the United States and the Secretary of War, and in coordination with Nigerian authorities, U.S. Africa Command conducted strikes against ISIS terrorists in Nigeria on Dec. 25, 2025, in Sokoto State,” the statement read.

Last month, Trump warned that he could cut off U.S. aid to Nigeria and order military action if the government failed to curb attacks against Christians, stating that he had instructed the Department of War to prepare for possible action against terrorist groups in the country.

United States lawmaker, Senator Tom Cotton, has commended President Donald Trump over the military airstrikes in North-west Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the US President, Donald Trump, announced multiple air strikes carried out on Islamic State (ISIS) militants in north-west Nigeria, saying the operation targeted fighters accused of killing mainly Christians in the region.

In a Truth Social post late on Christmas Day, Trump said the strikes were launched “at my direction as Commander in Chief.”

He wrote: “Tonight, at my direction… the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians…” 

In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its Spokesman, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, confirmed the Nigerian government’s security cooperation with the US intelligence community.

Ebienfa said the air strikes on terrorists in the north west were precise, targeting the hideouts of the criminals, but the number of terrorists killed in the operation was not disclosed.

The government warned that there will no longer be a place for violent extremists and terrorists in any region of the country, as their activities remain an affront to the country’s values.

Reacting, Senator Tom, in a post on 𝕏,  commended President Trump, stating that the terrorists are not only killing Christians but have also murdered many Americans.

The burial ceremony of Lady Ezinne Ibe at the Cathedral Church of Saint Mark’s, Isu-Awaa, Agwu, Enugu state, was attended by five Anglican Bishops including the pioneer Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province who also was the pioneer Bishop of Oji River Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Amos Madu, the Bishop of Afikpo Diocese, Rt Rev.Paul Udege, the Bishop of Eha-Amufu Diocese, Rt. Rev Daniel Oliha, the pioneer Bishop of Awgu/Aninri Diocese Rev.Dr Afam Ugwu.

The Bishop of Oji River Diocese, Rev. Dr. Ikechukwu Egbuonu and that of Nike Diocese, Rev. Dr. Onyeka Onyia were both represented. Over 30 Anglican priests attended the burial ceremony.

Delivering the funeral sermon, the Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Awgu/Aninri, Church of Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd. Dr. Benson, reminded Christians that every human being will one day die and will ultimately be remembered by their good deeds on earth.

Bishop Chukwunweike urged the congregation not to take life for granted, stressing that life itself is sustained only by the mercy of God.

He noted that no human being has control over how long they live, but everyone has control over how they live.

Quoting Numbers 23:10, the bishop read in full: “Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel?

“Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!” He explained that the scripture teaches believers to focus on living righteously so that their end will be pleasing before God.

The bishop further cited Hebrews 9:27, saying: “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” He stressed that death is unavoidable and that judgment follows immediately after, making it important for every person to live a life acceptable to God.

Bishop Chukwunweike warned against seeking blessings outside God’s will, noting that any blessing not from God could place a person on the wrong path.

Using the story of Jacob, he explained that Jacob became more blessed only after he stopped running ahead of God and submitted to divine timing.

He cautioned that one careless action could ruin a person’s life and reputation forever. Citing Judas Iscariot, whose name means praise, he said Judas is remembered negatively because he betrayed Jesus Christ.

“When you lie where the late Mrs Eunice Nwabugwu Ibe lies today, what will heaven say about you?” the bishop asked, urging everyone to live rightly every day.

The life and times of Lady Ezinne Eunice Nwabugwu Ibe was a life of fulfilment and accomplishments. Like a warrior, she came, she saw and she conquered.

She was born in the year of the Lord 1935 to the polygamous family of the late Chimengwu of Isu-Awaa community in the present Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. She got married to Late Chief Benson Maduabuchukwu Ibe (Chinenyeze 1 of Isi-Awaa) from Umunevo n’Umuevee of Enugu Isu-Awaa Agwu Enugu State.

Through dint of hard work and utmost faith in God, Lady Ezinne Eunice Nwabugwu worked hard extraordinarily from the cradles to rise from grass to grace

She passed on to the great beyond at a ripe age of 90 (1935-2025) but her death was described as a glorious transition to eternity based on her Christian virtues and service to humanity. Her lifetime was very unique and the legacies she left behind are thrilling.

Therefore, it was not surprising that the funeral ceremonies to give her a befitting burial from December 18th- 21st December, 2025 were tagged- “BLACK INDIGO GOES HOME”.

The ‘Black Indigo’ left unparalleled foot prints in the sands of times in the history of the Isu-Awaa community, Enugu state, Nigeria, Africa and the rest of the world. She was a unique mother and an example of motherhood, who suffered seriously to overcome challenges in raising and training her children. She didn’t allow her background to weigh her down. Amidst the obstacles, she was still kind and generous to all who came her path .Thus, it was not surprising that God Almighty in his infinite mercies blessed her children exceedingly as seen in Emperor Chris Baywood Ibe and his siblings who are all billionaires.

An empowerment programme to kick off her final funeral rites was held at the Ibe Family’s event arena at Isu-Awaa community
In the spirit of giving and care for humanity which they imbibed from late Lady Ezinne Eunice Nwabugwu Ibe, they gave out a bag of rice, gallon of vegetable oil and a sachet of Maggi cubes to 50 of the poorest families in each of the 21 Communities that make up Awgu local government area. In all, a total of 1,050 bags of rice, Vegetable oil and sachets of Maggi cubes meant for the most vulnerable and 50 poorest families in each community of Awgu local government area were shared.

The event was memorable as Chris Baywood Ibeh and Brethren brought hope to Awgu families via that outreach.

One beneficiary, Mrs. Madueke Geraldine, reflected on the late Lady Ezinne Eunice Ibeh. “She was a woman of giving,” Geraldine said. “She would always call you: ‘Sister, have you eaten?’ ‘Aunty, have you eaten?’ Seeing her son continue her work today, it feels like her spirit is still here with us.”

For many, this outreach was not just a festive gesture, it was a chance to celebrate Christmas without hunger, a reminder that generosity can touch lives in real, meaningful ways.

Emperor Chris Baywood Ibe said the largess was part of the legacy of giving they learnt from their mother. He likened her to Mother Theresa. Emperor Baywood noted that the reason for sharing the largess to the very poor also stemmed on the fact that not everybody among the rural dwellers will have the privilege to join in the enlarged event billed for Friday, December 19th.

Some of the beneficiaries interviewed by newsmen expressed gratitude to the Ibe family for the largesse, describing the late Lady Ezinne Eunice Ibe as very kind hearted and generous to all who came her way.

Ifeanyi Okonta, a beneficiary from Mgbidi Awgu, said the support came at a critical moment for many families struggling with the rising cost of living. He described the palliatives as a lifeline that enabled people to mark Christmas in a modest but dignified way.

“This means a lot to people who would otherwise have had nothing for Christmas,” he said. “It shows that Emperor Baywood Ibe truly cares about the poor and understands the struggles of ordinary people.”

The outreach also drew commendation from notable observers. Mr Lukas Udeagbara, former Executive Assistant to the Enugu State Governor, praised Emperor Ibe for extending love and support to the poor and needy, describing the gesture as a reflection of a compassionate heart committed to uplifting others.

“This is a clear example of leadership through service,” he said, praying that God would replenish Emperor Ibe’s resources and reward him richly for his generosity.

Observers say the palliative distribution highlights the growing importance of individual and private-sector efforts in addressing social challenges, particularly during festive periods when many families struggle to meet basic needs. They note that such acts help strengthen community bonds and promote a culture of empathy, sharing and mutual support.

The usually serene and lonely community of Isu-Awaa was lively on Friday, December 19th, as various dignitaries and friends of the Ibe Family from various parts of Nigeria and beyond trouped into Isu- Awaa to join the Ibe Family in the church service to commemorate their late mother.

In his vote of thanks on behalf of the Ibe Family at the church service, Emperor Chris Baywood Ibe assured the Family will continue to trail the legacy of their late mother to the church by supporting projects needed in the church. He asked the church to make a request since the family didn’t come with any material for thanksgiving. The church requested a two storey building guest house.

This instant request from the church priest for a Cathedral guest hall was accepted by Emperor Chris Baywood Ibe and he on behalf of the entire Ibe Family of Isu-Awaa, Awgu promised that the foundation for a befitting Cathedral guest house will be laid by the family in the first quarter of 2026, attracting praises and jubilation from the congregation.

After the Church service at Saint Mark’s Cathedral, the remains of late Ezinne Eunice Nwabugwu Ibe was laid to rest in his late husband’s house at Isu-Awaa.

There was lavish entertainment for friends and Special guests and other personalities, including the natives who identified with the Ibe Family at the event to mark the final funeral rites of their late mother, Lady Ezinne Eunice Nwabugwu Ibe.

Among the personalities who were at the church service was the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, Former House of Rep.Member Aninri/Awgu/ Oji River Federal Constituency,Hon.Toby Okechukwu, Hon.Chijioke Edeoga, the 2023 Labour Party Governorship candidate in Enugu state and Hon.Ikeje Asogwa, a former chairman of PDP in Enugu state,among numerous others.

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Osita Chidoka, Barr Olisa Metuh, Hon.Martins Chukwunweike, the immediate past commissioner for Health in Enugu state were among dignitaries who featured at the grand entertainment.

Others include Princess Peace Nnaji’, Dr Dakuku Peterside, Barr.Eugene Eneh, Gabriel Oladekpo,Sir Chidi Nwokeabia, Prince Austin Nwankwo,the Insurance guru, Dr Raph Ezeoma, Dr Mrs Nkoli Anibogu,Dr Emeka Onah,Yakubu Yikassa,Prof.Victor Nnam, High Chief Enahoro and many others from different parts of the country.

It is worthy to note that the Nigerian Ambassador to Malawi, Ambassador Ben Shida and Ambassador Sam Umara from Uganda were at the reception.

Emperor Baywood Ibe commended all for coming to identify with the Ibe Family in their activities to mark their late mother’s transition to glorious eternity.

He poured encomium on her wife- Empress Pat Baywood Ibe from Obosi as the secret on the success of the entire funeral arrangements.

He also poured encomium on his wife for the bountiful care of love she showered on his late mother, Lady Ezinne Eunice Nwabugwu Ibe while she lived. He asserts he is being tempted to visit his in-laws at Obosi and pay her dowry once again, if they permit because of her exceptional, unique manners and care for his family.

He thanked his brothers for the unity existing in the family and urged people to come and learn unity of purpose and brotherhood from them boosting that no third party can destroy the beautiful foundation of the Ibe family. He also thanked his sisters for standing together in solidarity to family unity,peace and love.

An outing church service to conclude the 4-day funerals of late lady Ezinne Eunice Nwabugwu Ibe was held at St Marks Anglican Cathedral, Church of Nigeria(Anglican Communion) Isu- Awaa, on Sunday, December 21st.

The late Lady Ezinne Eunice Nwabugwu Ibe was survived by other children including Mrs Anayochukwu Ogoke; Mrs. Blessing Onuchukwu ; Mr. Edwin Uchenna Ibe; Hon. Dr. Ugonna Reginald Ibe ; Lady Dr. Juliet Nkem Ude; Engr. Schwarz Eziekwe Ibe and Mrs. Vera Uzoamaka Adibe. She was survived by 32 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. All her 8 children and four daughters in law are alive as well as sons in-law.

Indeed Late Lady Ezinne Eunice Nwabugwu Ibe, the Black Indigo Apunanwu lives on.

A Grade Level 16 teacher in Cross River State, Mrs. Virtue Umera Bassey, has lost her right leg to complications arising from diabetes.

Mrs. Bassey, a teacher at Government Secondary School, Adiabo, Tinapa, had battled diabetes for several years and reportedly spent substantial amounts on medical treatment before she was referred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

Doctors at the hospital amputated her right leg on August 26, 2025, after determining that the disease had severely affected the limb and that the procedure was medically necessary.

Following the amputation, Mrs. Bassey has reportedly been experiencing frequent illness.

Despite her condition, she has expressed readiness to return to her teaching duties once the school holiday ends.

Speaking on her plans, Mrs. Bassey said she hopes to resume work by January 2026 but noted that doctors have advised her to use a prosthesis, which she said would cost about N2.6 million.

She also stated that she has not received any support from the government, adding that she is currently responsible for the education of her two children who are studying at universities.

Former Commissioner for Special Education, Castro Ezama, who visited her during the Yuletide, described Mrs. Bassey as one of the best English teachers in the state and called for support.

Ezama noted that Mrs. Bassey has about six years remaining before retirement and said he is optimistic that she would receive assistance to acquire the required prosthesis.

The “Hell to Pay” Warning
