The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State says it has reached a mutual understanding with the families of the two late members of the Kano State House of Assembly on how they will be replaced.

Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa, the state chairman of the party, Dr. Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, said the agreement followed wide consultations led by the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

According to Dungurawa, Kwankwaso met with key party leaders and members of the bereaved families at his residence in Kano, where they discussed the way forward.

“There is understanding and respect on all sides. We sat down, talked frankly, and agreed on the process,” Dungurawa said.

He noted that the party is hopeful that Sa’ad Aminu Sa’ad and Nabil Aliyu Daneji, who are being considered as replacements, would live up to the standards and public service record of their late fathers.

“We believe they will continue the legacy of service and dedication their fathers were known for,” he added.

The two lawmakers died on December 24, 2025, after battling separate illnesses, leaving vacant seats in the Kano State Assembly.

Dungurawa stressed that the NNPP is committed to handling the replacement exercise smoothly, respectfully, and within the law, adding that all steps will follow party rules and electoral guidelines.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Saturday reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu.

Wike recalled that during his tenure as Governor of Rivers State, he and his supporters openly and boldly supported Tinubu to win the Presidential election in 2023 when it was difficult in Rivers State.

He vowed to keep supporting the President now that things are easy.

The minister spoke in Ochigba, in Ahoada East Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State, during a meeting with People Democratic Party (PDP), stakeholders, when he attended the end of the year thanksgiving service, organized by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche in his hometown.

He assured the stakeholders that their struggle will never be in vain, urging them to continue to support Tinubu despite intimidation in the state.

Wike said those who supported Tinubu before the 2023 presidential election, which later led to his victory are recognized, compared to those who are presently shouting ‘on your mandate we shall stand’.

The minister said, “I want to say thank you for being there for us all through these years. We know those who are ungrateful. Thank you for standing with us. Remember in 2023, When it was tough. Nobody knows what will happen in that election. So many people were saying that it will be difficult for the President Bola Tinubu to win then. So many people were not able to come out openly and boldly to vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“But we all met to say in politics you must take a stand, you must take a decision whether it will be good or bad, but we know at the end of the day it will be good. And now it is good. We did it when it was difficult to say on your mandate we stand. And to the glory of God, we stood today. You are the ones who made the President strong as far as Rivers State is concerned.

“So, all these people now that you are seeing singing on your mandate we shall stand, that time when they were needed most, they couldn’t sing that and could not come out to say vote for Tinubu. Now that we stood and voted for him and River State won, I tell you all your struggle will not go in vain. We have come to let you know that we are still strong. Nigerians know us, when we take a decision, we have taken the decision.

“We don’t make decisions based on what people have seen, we make decisions that we are convinced and we believe that this will happen. From January next year, let me inform you that we will start politics. You know me, I believe in ‘agreement is agreement’. Anything you know you cannot do, don’t say it. Nobody can use us. Whatever you have agreed in the morning, you must agree in the night.

“So don’t worry yourself about those who are shouting on your mandate we shall stand. We have shouted when it matters most. If we did not shout then for him to have won, would they have shouted now? I have never hidden my position, Nigerians know and you can attest to it. After President Bola Tinubu, the next most abused politician is me. Why are they abusing me because they know that ‘agreement is agreement’. When we have agreed on something let us implement it. If we cannot implement it, then don’t let us talk about it.

“For us we have said that we will continue to support Ahmed Bola Tinubu. That is the position you took and that is the position you are going to still take. I came to reassure you that no problem.”

A pro-Tinubu group, South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA) has distributed food items to residents of Enugu state to support households and promote food security during the festive season.

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), has announced the graduation of over 7,000 forest guards drawn from seven states across the country.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, titled “FG Graduates Over 7,000 Forest Guards, Set for Immediate Deployment.” 

The development followed the successful completion of an intensive three-month training programme under the Presidential Forest Guards Initiative launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in May 2025.

What FG is saying 

According to the statement, the initiative is a coordinated federal–state security intervention targeted at “reclaiming Nigeria’s forests from criminal exploitation.” 

Graduation ceremonies were held on 27 December 2025 across Borno, Sokoto, Yobe, Adamawa, Niger, Kwara, and Kebbi states.

“The programme is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture by denying terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups sanctuary within forested and hard-to-reach terrains. 

“The training programme was deliberately intensive, structured, and demanding, aimed at transforming loyal and committed Nigerians into agile, disciplined, and capable field operatives,” the statement partly read.

The curriculum focused on human rights, International Humanitarian Law (IHL), gender rights, and the protection of civilians, while arms handling and use-of-force protocols were strictly regulated in line with an Arms Management Manual jointly agreed upon by all participating agencies.

Commenting on the development, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, disclosed that the guards will hold ground, gather intelligence, and support security agencies in reclaiming territories previously overtaken by criminal elements.

The NSA said deployment is already underway, as the graduands are to proceed to their assigned duty posts.

“There will be no delay between graduation and deployment. Salaries and allowances will commence immediately, and every certified guard will proceed directly to assigned duty posts,” he stated.

“By protecting our forests, we are securing our territory. And by securing our territory, we are protecting our people. The Federal Government will not relent. This initiative will expand nationwide as part of our sustained effort to build a safer and more secure Nigeria,” Ribadu added.

Trainees, according to the statement, underwent extensive physical and mental conditioning, including endurance exercises, obstacle-crossing drills, and long-range patrol simulations to prepare them for sustained forest operations.

The Nigerian Forest Guard is an inter-agency national security initiative involving the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Park Service.

The programme also draws strategic input from the Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The development comes days after the Federal Government designated kidnappers and violent armed groups as terrorists, escalating Nigeria’s response to abductions, attacks on farmers, and community violence.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, at an end-of-the-year press briefing in Abuja last Monday.

This signalled a shift from treating mass kidnappings and rural attacks as ordinary crimes to confronting them with full counterterrorism measures.

The minister also hinted that the forest guard initiative, once deployed, is intended to close existing security gaps by combining surveillance, local intelligence, and rapid-response capabilities in hard-to-reach areas.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described himself as one of the ‘most abused’ politicians in Nigeria, second only to President Bola Tinubu.

The FCT Minister also declared that political activities in Rivers State would formally begin from January 2026.

Wike made the remarks on Saturday while speaking at a special thanksgiving service organised by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, and his family in Ochiba community, Ahoada East local government area of Rivers State.

The former Rivers State governor said he remained steadfast in honouring agreements and reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Tinubu, stressing that his political stance had never shifted.

During the event, Wike expressed appreciation to the people of Ahoada East and Ahoada West local government areas for their consistent loyalty over the years.

“This is the first local government we are coming to say thank you for being there for us all through these years.

“You know, like the pastor said today, God detests those who are ungrateful. And so for what you’ve done for us, for standing with us, we say thank you. Thank you, and thank you,” he said.

Reflecting on the last 2023 general election, Wike commended the residents for standing firm despite uncertainties surrounding the outcome of the presidential poll.

“You remember, in 2023, when it was tough, nobody knows what will happen in that election. Somebody was saying that it will be difficult for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to win that election. So many people were not able to come and vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“But, we all met, as leaders here, and you, to say in politics, we must take a stand and defend. That we must take a decision, whether it is good or bad. But we know at the end of the day, it will be good. But we did it.

“When it was tough, for people to say ‘on your mandate we stand’. We stood firm and said on your mandate we stand. And to the glory of God, we stood. And today, he is the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Wike added.

He credited the people of the area with helping to strengthen Tinubu’s mandate in Rivers State.

“So you are the ones who made the mandate to be strong as far as Rivers State is concerned,” he said.

Wike also made a veiled reference to the recent defection of Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting that some political actors only declared support for Tinubu after the election.

“So all these people you are now seeing singing ‘on your mandate we stand’, that time, when they were needed most, they couldn’t sing that. They couldn’t come out to say, vote for Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

“Now that you stood and voted for him, and even said, woman, I tell you, all your struggle will not go in vain. So we have come to tell you to remain strong,” he said.

Emphasising the importance of integrity and consistency in politics, the FCT minister said agreements must be respected and honoured.

“You know me, I believe in agreement. Anything you know you cannot do, don’t say it, don’t even enter into it. From January next year, politics will start. Nobody can use us. So let me say yes and agree later. No, I can’t do that. Whatever you have agreed in the morning, it was agreed in the night. So, don’t worry yourself about who was shouting ‘on your mandate will stand’.

“We have shouted when it mattered most. If we did not shout it then, would they shout now? Would they have shouted now? I have never hidden my position. Nigerians know. And you can attest to it. We have never wavered in support of Aswaju Bola Tinubu. If you want to know, after Bola Tinubu, the next most abused politician is me.

“Why are they abusing me? Because they know agreement is what? When we have agreed on something, let’s implement it. If you cannot implement it, don’t even come to reach it.

“So for us, we have decided before now, long ago, that we must make sure we continue to support Bola Tinubu. That is the position you took. And that is the position we are going to continue to take. So, on behalf of our team, we want to thank you, our foot soldiers who have stood firm in spite of all provocations,” Wike said.

He further alleged that some politicians deliberately attacked him for financial gain, mocking what he described as opportunistic politics.

“One thing you should know about Nigerian politics. You know, there is a universal state every time. How you can make money now for a universal state is like that. You go and say, this enough is enough for Wike. We will deal with Wike, they drop (dish out money). If you don’t say you will deal with Wike, you won’t get him.

“I hear we have about N600 billion somewhere. So, just say we will deal with Wike. The moment you pronounce that word, something will come down,” he said.

Earlier, Hon. Nwuche praised Wike for his developmental contributions to the Ekpeye Kingdom, particularly the elevation of traditional institutions during his tenure as governor.

“For the first time, Ekpeye had seven first-class stools. Before now, we only had one. Governors came and left. None of them agreed to elevate our stools. Only him (Wike) did that for us. So, I’ve seen people who have used power wrongly. They forget that there’s karma. And that’s why I say Nigerians should be careful in choosing leadership.

“We know our leaders very well. Ask us about them. There are many of them who came into leadership by accident. They have no business being there because they have no human feelings. People who find themselves in power should use it to elevate the people and better their lots, not to oppress them, to break their homes and go.

“Nobody who follows Wike can say that he hasn’t been impacted positively. Nobody. That’s why you see, no matter where he goes, we shall go there,” Nwuche said.

There was anxiety at Government House, Gombe, Gombe State, after a watchman allegedly killed a staff member who handles water borehole operations in the house.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at 3:50pm, when the victim, identified as Baba Usama, was allegedly killed after being drugged and strangled with a rope by his killer.

According to the Gombe State Police Command, Shuaibu Adamu, aged 19 years, committed the atrocity.

Police spokesman in the state, Buhari Abdullahi, revealed that on December 26, 2025, a distress report was received that the victim, a casual staff member employed as a borehole operator at the Gombe State Government House, was found lying motionless.

He said the deceased was discovered with his trousers tied around his neck, while a local intoxicant popularly known as rubber solution was found inserted in his mouth.

Abdullahi added that he was immediately rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe, where he was certified dead by a medical doctor, while his remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.

“Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, visited the scene and ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

“Further investigations, including the review of CCTV footage within the Government House premises, revealed that one Shuaibu Adamu, aged 19 years, also known as “Yaya Mama” of Mallam Kuri Quarters, a casual watchman attached to a construction company handling projects within the Gombe Government House, was seen assaulting the deceased prior to his death.

“The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident”, he uncovered.

The police further stated that, in a coordinated follow-up operation, the suspect was tracked and arrested at his hideout in Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe, at about 11 pm on the same date.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.

“The suspect remains in police custody while investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the homicide and to ensure diligent prosecution in accordance with the law.

“The Gombe State Police Command reassures the public of its firm commitment to justice and the safety of all persons working within and around government facilities”, he said.

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State, Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, has attributed Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, corruption and moral decline to a failure of collective responsibility by citizens and leaders at all levels of society.

Abdul-Hameed made the assertion while delivering a keynote lecture themed “We Are All Responsible” at the 115th Zonal Islamic Vacation Course, IVC, of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, MSSN, B Zone, held at the proposed permanent site of Al-Ummah University along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway, Onigari area of Ogun State.

The rector, who is also the Imam of the Muslim Community at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, argued that social injustice, corruption, insecurity and poor living standards do not exist in isolation, but thrive when individuals and institutions abandon their moral and civic duties.

He stressed that responsibility applies to everyone, including leaders, parents, youths, professionals and religious scholars, warning that silence in the face of wrongdoing amounts to complicity.

According to him, responsibility in Islam goes beyond personal actions to include words, influence and inaction, noting that people will be held accountable not only for what they do, but also for what they fail to prevent.

Abdul-Hameed maintained that humans are saddled with the responsibility to protect values, promote justice and correct wrongs within families, institutions and the nation at large.

He commended the MSSN B-Zone for consistently organising the Islamic Vacation Course, describing the programme as a platform for moral renewal, leadership grooming and social reform among Muslim youths, insisting that such gatherings play a critical role in shaping disciplined and principled future leaders.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Amir of MSSN B-Zone, Mallam Moshood Kolawole, described the IVC as the Society’s flagship programme, noting that it brings together participants from across the 17 southern states of Nigeria for reflection on personal growth and societal responsibility.

Kolawole urged delegates to translate lessons from the programme into practical actions within their communities.

In his closing remarks, the national president of the society, Mallam Tajudeen Mustapha, reiterated that indifference is no longer an option in the face of Nigeria’s challenges, calling on youths to see themselves as custodians of a mission to restore values, discipline and service to society.

The 115th IVC recorded over 10,000 delegates drawn from Edo, Delta and Rivers states.

The United States resumed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations over Nigeria on Saturday, days after carrying out air strikes against ISIS terrorists in Sokoto State, flight tracking data and terrorism analysts have said.

Brant Philip, a Sahel‑focused terrorism tracker, shared flight data showing a Gulfstream V aircraft, a long‑range business jet often modified for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, flying over Borno State.

Philip said Saturday’s operations were targeting the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), the ISIS affiliate operating mainly in the northeast and the Lake Chad basin.

“The United States resumed ISR operations today on ISWAP in the Sambisa forest, Borno State in northeast Nigeria, after a pause of one day following the strikes in Sokoto State,” he wrote on 𝕏.

Flight‑tracking information indicated that the US began intelligence flights over Nigeria on November 24, after the aircraft took off from Ghana, a logistical hub for the American military in Africa.

The aircraft has reportedly flown over Nigerian territory almost daily since the start of the mission.

The data also tied the aircraft’s operator to Tenax Aerospace, a provider of special mission aircraft that works closely with the US military.

Around the time the operations commenced, a former US official said the missions were tasked with tracking an American pilot kidnapped in neighbouring Niger Republic and gathering actionable intelligence on militant groups operating in Nigeria.

The intelligence flights over Nigeria were resumed shortly after Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, met with Pete Hegseth, US Defence Secretary, in Washington.

The meeting followed public statements from the Pentagon about working “aggressively” with Nigerian authorities to end what was described as the “persecution of Christians by jihadist terrorists.”

Last Thursday night’s strike in Sokoto was the first fulfilment of US President Donald Trump’s vow to act on those threats, with Trump saying more strikes would follow.

The Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, OPHK, has, in seven months of operations, killed 438 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.

The Theatre Commander, OPHK, North-east Sector 1, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, who made this known on Saturday at the Christmas Luncheon in Maiduguri, said the operations were conducted between May and December.

Abubakar said the operatives had also recovered 254 assorted weapons, 300 units of Starlink communication devices and rescued 366 civilians from various terrorist enclaves.

“The surrender of 881 JAS/ISWAP fighters and their families, among other accomplishments, further underscores the progress made,” he said.

The army general said the Christmas celebration coincided with their dry season operations in the theatre.

Abubakar also attributed the successes recorded in the Joint Operations Area to the Chief of Army Staff’s interventions.

An unspecified number of travellers have reportedly been killed following a suspected bomb explosion along the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State, law enforcement sources and eyewitness accounts say.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command, Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident to Daily Post on Saturday.

In a telephone interview, he said, “I can confirm that there was a blast in that area but the incident just happened. I can’t tell you details yet. I will update you later.”

At the time of filing this report, the number of victims and the full extent of injuries and property damage had not been independently verified.

Videos purportedly showing the aftermath of the blast have been circulating on social media, with travellers seen fleeing the scene in panic.

Several social media users expressed anguish and urged authorities to act.

An 𝕏 user, Nuhu Sada (@NuhuSada0), a former Social Democratic Party candidate for the Kaduna State House of Assembly, tweeted, “Another tragic attack on innocent travellers in Zamfara. Families are grieving, lives are lost, and property destroyed. Security agencies must act quickly to prevent further harm and bring those responsible to justice.”

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, has reaffirmed the resilience and economic openness of Eastern Nigeria, declaring that the region is firmly open for business, travel, and community life.

In a reflective post on Saturday, Chidoka pushed back against narratives that define societies solely by their most difficult moments. He highlighted the visible return of normalcy, movement, and shared joy across the region during the festive season.

“No society is defined only by its hardest moments. What matters is how people continue to live, return home, and find joy despite them,” Chidoka stated. He pointed to bustling markets, packed motor parks, active highways, and family reunions as clear indicators of social stability and economic life.

Millions of Easterners travelled home for Christmas and year-end celebrations, demonstrating the region’s social stability. Chidoka noted that ordinary life is not only unfolding but thriving across the East, from Aba to Awka, Onitsha to Nsukka, Abakaliki to Owerri.

The December economy recorded seasonal highs, reinforcing the South-East’s role as a major driver of national enterprise. Trade, transport, hospitality, and informal commerce thrived, showcasing the region’s resilience.

Chidoka’s message carried a deeper political and economic undertone, emphasizing that communities are actively choosing unity, continuity, and progress over fear or retreat. “What I see are people choosing community, resilience, and joy in motion,” he noted.

Using the unifying message ‘EastIsOpen,’ Chidoka called for a reframing of the South-East narrative, one that reflects lived realities rather than isolated incidents. He celebrated the unique strengths of each state with hashtags “AdmirableAbia, AmazingAnambra, EndearingEbonyi, ExcitingEnugu, and InvitingImo,”

The statement aligns with historical patterns: a region that repeatedly absorbs shocks yet rebounds through enterprise, kinship networks, and mobility. The festive return of millions this December confirmed that confidence in the East remains strong.

As debates continue nationally around security, investment, and regional development, Chidoka’s intervention serves as reassurance and invitation—reassurance to citizens and the diaspora, and an invitation to investors, partners, and policymakers. Announcing his death, Yahaya Crypto wrote on Facebook:

“Hasbunnallah wanimal wakil. Life is uncertain. God has taken our friend Marketing Guru.””Yesterday at his wedding in Abuja, today they are going to dinner with his wife, and I just found out that he died this morning.”

The individual, @OmarLadan_, mentioned that he attended Marketing Guru’s wedding but now he is no more.

Another individual who identified himself as Nas, a friend of the late Bashir @Ameenu_Kutama, reacted to his death and shared some sensitive details about his wedding.

His statement read:

“My close friend arrived in Abuja on Thursday ahead of his wedding. He fell ill that same day, but the wedding proceeded on Friday as planned. He managed to return to Kano last night, only to pass away today. I am devastated. May Allah forgive Baba and grant him mercy. Ameen.”

Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday said he is the most abused politician in Nigeria after President Bola Tinubu.

Wike spoke in Ochigba, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, during a meeting with the LG’s Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stakeholders.

The meeting was part of the end of the year thanksgiving service.organised by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, in Ochigba, his hometown.

Wike explained that people abuse him because he insists on agreements which would ensure that his followers are carried along.

He said: “After Tinubu, the next most abused politician today is me. Why are they abusing me? Because they know that agreement is agreement.

“When we have agreed on something let’s implement it, if we can’t implement it, don’t even come for it.

“So for us, long before now we have agreed that we must make sure that we will continue to support Tinubu, that is the position you took and that is the position we are going to still take.”
