A Nigerian man has taken to social media to lament after his I Just Got Back (IJGB) friends returned to the country and allegedly turned him into their personal ATM.
In a viral video on TikTok, the man revealed that ever since they arrived, all they do is borrow money from him, with no sign of repayment.
He wondered if they had booked their own Detty December for February or June, questioning why friends returning from America and Germany would be borrowing money from someone who has been in Nigeria all year.
According to him, instead of his IJGB friends flexing him, he ended up spending on them and still lending them money afterward.
He added that while others often share stories of their IJGB friends splurging on them, his own experience has been completely different.
Jokingly, he said he doesn’t recall ever claiming to be an artist or dropping a hit EP to deserve such treatment.
Many reactions have followed online. One commentator wrote, “This one is funny but painful.” Another added, “Na Nigerians dey sponsor abroad now?”
In frustration, the man joked that he now wants to see their passports, insisting he would seize them until his money is paid back before they return abroad.

The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), South South, Hon. Victor Giadom, on Tuesday, advised Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers to go through the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to win anything in the state.
Giadom said this during Wike’s ‘thank you’ visit to the people of Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers.
Describing Wike as a “dependable leader” in Rivers politics, Giadom assured the minister that there would be no political force in Gokana other than Wike.
“I guarantee, on behalf of my brothers, that the Gokana people are for Wike and Tinubu, and nobody will challenge Wike’s influence in Gokana.
“Gokana is a ‘no-go area’ for anybody, even the Gov. Fubara. For him to win anything in Gokana, he must pass through Wike,” he said.
Also, Sen. Magnus Abe, a former Senator who represented Rivers South East at the Senate, said that the people of Gokana have already chosen their friends – Wike and Tinubu.
“Wike is a leader that unites, and that is why we are united. If you follow Wike, you will not go home empty-handed.
“The Ogoni people are with you, and we will not go home empty-handed. Please tell Tinubu not to bother coming to Gokana to campaign. We are for him,” he said.
On his part, the Deputy Speaker, Rivers Assembly, Dumle Maol, assured Wike that the people of Gokana would be with him every step of the way.
“Anywhere you go, we will go,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of Gokana Local Council, Mr Confidence Deko, pledged total support to the minister, saying, “Wherever you go, we will go.”
“This local government is for you because of what you have done for us. Please tell Tinubu that the people of Bokana are appreciative of him.
“The time for payback is near, and we will do the needful,” he said.
Responding, Wike explained that the visit was to say thank you to the Gokana people for their good deeds and support over the years.
He commended the people for the display of unity of purpose for Tinubu, saying, “When you are united, good things will come.”
He asked the people to be patient and listen to their leaders for direction on where to go when the time comes.
The minister promised to continue to work with the people, adding that APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers were working under the umbrella of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Wike said, “That is why you see PDP and APC members here.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has renewed its call for the suspension of the commencement date of the Tax Act, citing discrepancies between the harmonised and gazetted versions of the law.
In a statement on Tuesday signed by its spokesman, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party said Nigerians across social strata have expressed displeasure over what it described as the smuggling of “very dangerous provisions” that were earlier expunged by the National Assembly.
The PDP said Nigerians have demanded a thorough investigation to determine who carried out the alleged illegal insertions and how they were effected.
The party accused the presidency of minimising the concerns while insisting that the commencement date of the Tax Act must stand despite the discrepancies.
According to the PDP, the posture of the presidency shows where the government’s priority lies “between Nigerians and money”.
The party said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has prioritised finance over the welfare of Nigerians since 2023, citing the removal of fuel subsidy and its economic consequences.
The PDP said the president should remember that he is “an employee of the people” and ought to listen to Nigerians.
It said Tinubu won the election with less than 40 percent of the votes and should therefore recognise listening to Nigerians as a primary duty of his administration.
The party recalled that a PDP-led federal government in 2012 listened to Nigerians and civil society organisations during protests against fuel subsidy removal, adding that Tinubu played a prominent role in those protests.
The PDP reiterated its call for the suspension of the Tax Act’s commencement date pending the conclusion of a thorough investigation into the alleged discrepancies.
The party said obedience to laws in a democracy is linked to public confidence that elected legislators deliberated upon and approved them.
“Consequently, we reiterate our earlier call for the suspension of the commencement date of the Tax Act, pending the conclusion of a thorough investigation.
“Obedience to laws in a democracy is directly linked to the belief that elected legislators have deliberated upon and approved them.
“A mere suspicion, let alone a confirmed fact, that unapproved sections have been smuggled into a law with the capacity to affect all Nigerians is sufficient reason to suspend its commencement.
“The President must act in favour of the people of this country; to do otherwise is a clear confirmation that money, not the people, is the priority,” the party stated.
The uncle of Anthony Joshua has said the family was thrown into shock after learning the boxer was involved in a car crash in Lagos.
The accident, which occurred on Monday, claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s close associates following a tyre blowout.
Those who died in the crash were Latif “Latz” Ayodele, Joshua’s personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a sport and exercise rehabilitation coach.
The Lexus SUV conveying the boxer was said to have collided with a stationary truck near a petrol station along the Lagos-Ibadan highway.
Speaking to journalists in Ijokun, Adedamola Joshua, the boxer’s uncle, said the family did not immediately know about the accident.
His words: “We did not know on time that he was involved in an accident, it was really a rude shock to the family because this is not the first time he would be coming to see his family in Sagamu. Anthony Joshua can even come home up to three, four times in a year.
“We felt so bad because this is the end of the year period which is usually use to rejoice and bond with one another, it is really quite unfortunate.
“The sad news actually jolted Sagamu community and up till now everyone is still in shock. People have kept calling the family members to sympathise with us and get updates.
“Since the incident happened, we have been rallying round to see if it is possible to get to see our son but that has been impossible because of his status.
“We don’t know the hospital he was taken to and we can understand that such is being done to protect him being a world figure.
“However, we have been in touch with his father and mother who are also in Nigeria and they have assured us that Joshua is fine.
“We are also thinking that it will be fine if they allow even if it just three of the family members to see him, we are all eager to see him but we will still respect the wish of the authority to keep him safe for now.”
The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has warned that the Federal Government’s mandatory fiscal deductions are constraining the Corporation’s ability to build a robust Deposit Insurance Fund (DIF).
According to the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the corporation, Mr. Thompson Oludare Sunday, the mandatory 50% cost-to-income policy is constraining the Corporation’s ability to build a robust Deposit Insurance Fund required to safeguard bank depositors during failures.
This much was revealed during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Dr. Armstrong Takang.
Mr. Sunday said NDIC remains fully compliant with all statutory financial and fiscal regulations, including the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) 2007.
Sunday stressed that international benchmarks under the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) require deposit insurers to maintain adequate funds to reimburse depositors without relying on government.
“These deductions affect NDIC’s ability to build a strong Deposit Insurance Fund, which is needed to respond effectively when banks fail,” he said, adding that NDIC is seeking exemption to enhance its readiness for potential bank distress.
What NDIC is saying
The Corporation is seeking exemption from Federal Government’s mandatory fiscal deductions, particularly the 50% cost-to-income policy. In a statement on Tuesday signed by Hawwau Gambo, Head, Communications & Public Affairs, Mr. Sunday was quoted as saying that the mandatory remittances are limiting its operational flexibility and weakening its ability to build a robust Deposit Insurance Fund (DIF).
According to the statement, these compulsory deductions reduce the funds available for strengthening the DIF, which is critical to NDIC’s capacity to effectively protect depositors and respond swiftly in the event of bank failures.
The NDIC Managing Director emphasized that international best practices under the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) require deposit insurers to maintain sufficient financial resources to reimburse depositors without depending on government intervention.
He noted that the current deductions undermine this objective, prompting NDIC to seek exemption from such remittances to enhance its preparedness and resilience against potential banking sector distress.
However, Sunday reaffirmed NDIC’s strict adherence to statutory remittance obligations, including the payment of 20% of gross earnings or 80% of net surplus to the Federal Government, depending on the applicable rule.
He also noted that NDIC consistently submits its financial statements ahead of statutory timelines and operates within the Federal Government’s fiscal discipline framework.
“This culture of compliance is central to our credibility as a key institution within Nigeria’s financial safety-net,” he stated.
MOFI acknowledges NDIC’s compliance, pledges institutional support
Responding, MOFI’s Chief Executive, Dr. Armstrong Takang, commended NDIC for what he described as an exemplary record of collaboration, transparency, and fiscal responsibility.
He assured that MOFI—representing the Federal Government’s 40% equity stake in NDIC—would continue to engage the Ministry of Finance on the Corporation’s concerns.
Takang emphasized that a stronger NDIC is vital to safeguarding depositor confidence and broader financial system stability, pledging institutional support to ensure the Corporation can effectively fulfil its mandate.
Strategic partnership for financial stability
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to sustained cooperation and transparency, with Mr. Sunday emphasizing that NDIC remains focused on balancing regulatory compliance with its overriding mandate of depositor protection and financial system stability.
He described MOFI as a strategic partner whose sustained engagement is critical to ensuring NDIC continues to meet fiscal obligations without compromising its core function of maintaining confidence in Nigeria’s banking system.

President Tinubu’s Statement on the Commencement of New Tax Laws on January 1, 2026 – THISDAYLIVE
The new tax laws, including those that took effect on June 26, 2025, and the remaining acts scheduled to commence on January 1, 2026, will continue as planned.
These reforms are a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a fair, competitive, and robust fiscal foundation for our country.
The tax laws are not designed to raise taxes, but rather to support a structural reset, drive harmonisation, and protect dignity while strengthening the social contract.
I urge all stakeholders to support the implementation phase, which is now firmly in the delivery stage.
Our administration is aware of the public discourse surrounding alleged changes to some provisions of the recently enacted tax laws.
No substantial issue has been established that warrants a disruption of the reform process. Absolute trust is built over time through making the right decisions, not through premature, reactive measures.
I emphasise our administration’s unwavering commitment to due process and the integrity of enacted laws. The Presidency pledges to work with the National Assembly to ensure the swift resolution of any issue identified.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria continued their fine form at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3–1 victory over the Cranes of Uganda at the Stade Foot Fès, topping Group C with three wins in three.
The Eagles are the first team to win all their group games in the 2025 AFCON after they defeated both Tanzania and Tunisia before this game.

Kinsmen of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Chief Nyesom Wike, have passed a vote of confidence in the administration of the governor of the state, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and endorsed him for a second term.
The Eneka people in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, the LGA of Wike, also said the FCT minister is no longer governor of the state, noting that the hollowed office of the state is solely occupied by Fubara.
The endorsement was announced on Tuesday at the 2025 Eneka Day Celebration, held at State Primary School One, Eneka, with the theme “Unity: Our Strength for Progress.”
The event attracted community leaders, traditional rulers and residents from the eleven communities that make up the clan.
Speaking for the clan, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee, CDC of Eneka, Mr. Lawson Chukwu, reaffirmed the unwavering loyalty and support of the people for the Governor.
Chukwu commended the administration for its development efforts in the area and appealed to the governor to give attention to the construction of the community’s internal roads.
Chukwu further requested the upgrade of the Eneka traditional stool from second-class to first-class status, noting that such recognition would further strengthen the cultural heritage and unity of the people.
Also, the political leader of Eneka Clan and President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Sen. John Azuta-Mbata, declared that the people of Eneka recognise Siminalayi Fubara as the only Governor of Rivers State.
Mbata promised the Governor of the clan’s continued friendship and support, describing the relationship as firm and unbroken.
However, the Governor, while responding, expressed appreciation for the endorsement and the show of unity by the Eneka people.
He assured the community that his administration would prioritise the restoration of a considerable number of their deteriorated internal roads, many of which, he noted, were damaged by heavy-duty trucks during the construction of flyovers.
The Governor promised a significant and reasonable intervention to improve road access within the clan and enhance the quality of life of residents.
Fubara also directed the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs to immediately commence the process for the upgrade of the Eneka traditional stool from second-class to first-class status.
He urged the people of Eneka to sustain their unity, stressing that a peaceful and united community makes it easier for the government to deliver meaningful development without internal conflict.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, filed a fresh charge against Yakubu Adamu, Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, and others bordering on alleged terrorism financing to the tune of 9.7 million U.S dollars.
Adamu, alongside Balarabe Abdullahi Ilelah, Aminu Mohammed Bose and Kabiru Yahaya Mohammed, who are 2nd to 4th defendants respectively, will be arraigned before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday on 10 counts.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that though EFCC’s lawyer, Samuel Chime, had earlier prayed the court to allow Adamu and his co-defendants take their plea today when the sister case was heard, Justice Nwite fixed Wednesday for their arraignment.
The judge held that the charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/705/2025 dated and filed Dec. 30 by Chime, was not in the court file.
In count one, Adamu, Sirajo Jaja (while being Accountant-General of Bauchi State, now at large}, Samaila Irmiya Liman (now at large}, Balarabe Ilelah, Aminu Bose and Kabiru Mohammed (all being civil servants and signatories to Bauchi State Government’s accounts and/or payment instruments) were alleged to have committed the offence sometime between Jan. 2024 and May 2024.
They were alleged to have conspired to provide funds in the aggregate sum of 2,300,000.000 U.S. dollars in cash for the benefit of Bello Bodejo and persons associated with him, pursuant to approvals granted by Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.
The said funds were alleged to be used, in whole or in part, to finance a terrorist or terrorist group.
The offence is contrary to Section 26(1) and punishable under Section 21(2)(a) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) as the Director of Public Prosecutions.
According to a statement on Tuesday by the State House Director of Information & Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye, President Tinubu approved the transfer of service of Oyedepo from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to the mainstream Federal Civil Service as the Director of Public Prosecutions, in the Federal Ministry of Justice.
A letter dated December 23, signed by Omolabake Mafe on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, stated that Oyedepo’s appointment was made in the public interest.
The statement explained that Oyedepo, as DPP, will fill the vacancy occasioned by the retirement of Mr Abubakar Babadoko, who will attain the mandatory eight years as a director on December 31, 2025.
It added that “Mr Oyedepo is a 2007 Law graduate from the University of Ilorin and attended the Law School in 2008.
“He is expected to deploy his expertise to reduce reliance on external counsel for critical prosecutions and to ensure greater coherence and consistency in the Federal Government’s legal strategies.
“Before this appointment, Mr Oyedepo worked at EFCC for over 15 years, specialising in the prosecution of complex economic and financial crimes. He also served as the Head of the Monitoring Unit.
“Among others, he was a member of the legal team for the Federal Government in the landmark case of Process and Industrial Development vs The Federal Republic of Nigeria, known as the P&ID case.
“He was named the EFCC Outstanding Staff of the Year in 2014 as well as the Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor in 2019.”
The Kano chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has appointed Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as Acting State Chairman following the sacking of the former chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa.
The appointment comes after Dungurawa’s removal by his ward level was rejected, prompting the NNPP State Executive Committee to endorse Abiya during an emergency meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Kano.
The decision was announced by Barrister Yusuf Mukhtar, the party’s Assistant Legal Adviser, who stated that Abiya’s appointment is in accordance with the provisions of the NNPP constitution.
Party sources said the development followed the submission of a formal resolution on Dungurawa’s sacking and expulsion by the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee. The resolution, forwarded by the Gargari Ward Executive, accused Dungurawa of anti-party activities and was adopted at the ward’s second executive meeting, held two weeks after the general election.
After reviewing the report, the State Executive Committee endorsed the resolution and approved Abiya’s emergence as Acting State Chairman.
Officials said the move is aimed at restoring internal discipline, strengthening party cohesion, and repositioning the NNPP for future political engagements in Kano State.
In his response, Abiya pledged that the party will do justice to all members and remain loyal to the national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Kebbi Police Clarify Bagudo Hospital Explosion, Debunk Bomb and Helicopter Claims — Akelicious
The Kebbi State Police Command has clarified the cause of the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo, which occurred on 30th December 2025.
The Command confirmed that there was no bomb or helicopter involvement, and no casualties were recorded.
Investigations conducted by the Kebbi State Police, in collaboration with EOD-CBRN experts and the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, revealed that the explosion was caused by an inferno from overheated air-conditioning and refrigerator gas cylinders.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman Anisma, urged the public and media to disregard unverified reports suggesting a bomb or helicopter and to rely solely on official updates from the Police.
The Kebbi State Police Command assures residents that all necessary measures have been taken to prevent any recurrence and that the situation remains fully under control.

The Most Rev. Dr. Peter Ogunmuyiwa, Archbishop of the Abuja Metropolitan Province of the African Church, has said that death was never part of God’s original plan for humanity, but came as a consequence of disobedience.
He stated this while delivering the funeral message for Shola Aiyebola, a producer of AIT’s Kakaaki programme, at the African Church Cathedral Bethel Diocese, Abuja.Speaking on the theme “Why Do People Die?” the Archbishop explained that although human beings were not created to die, everything living now has a terminal point — including trees, animals and even man-made technology.He further stressed that “no matter how powerful a person is, death remains unavoidable.”
To believers, he said, death is not an end but “a pathway to meeting God.” He emphasized that confessing Jesus Christ is the first and only step toward heaven, noting that righteousness by itself does not guarantee salvation, just as wickedness alone does not automatically condemn a person. He referenced the biblical examples of Cornelius and the thief on the cross to illustrate that salvation comes through faith in Christ.Archbishop Ogunmuyiwa praised the late Aiyebola for dedicating his life to service and humanity through his work in the broadcasting industry.
Concluding his message, he declared that judgment follows death and that “the church does not pray for the dead,” adding that the time to confess Christ is only while a person is still alive. He therefore urged members of the congregation to commit their lives to Jesus.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano State has reiterated its readiness to welcome Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the party, ahead of his planned defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.
The Kano State Chairman of the APC, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, stated this while reacting to recent political developments, describing the anticipated move as guided by unity, reconciliation, and the collective interest of Kano State.
Speaking on behalf of the party’s national leader, former chairman and immediate-past Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Abbas stressed that the call for Governor Yusuf to join the APC is not rooted in political rivalry, but in a sincere desire to build a more united and prosperous Kano State.
“This is about unity, reconciliation, and moving Kano state forward,” Abbas said. “The APC is ready to receive Governor Yusuf with open arms so that, together, we can combine our strengths for the progress of the state.”
He explained that upon his formal entry, Governor Yusuf and other NNPP stalwarts, including but not limited to, members of National Assembly, State Assembly, State Executive Council, Local Government Chairmen, Elected Councilors, political appointees and party faithfuls would be received into the APC under Dr. Ganduje’s leadership, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and collective responsibility.
