The Police Command in Kebbi has confirmed an early morning explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo, Bagudo Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

This is contained in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi by the command’s spokesman, Bashir Usman, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Mr Usman said, “We want to assure all residents of the area of full control over the security situation following a loud explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo, in the early hours of Tuesday, Dec. 30.

“A joint security team of police, military, and vigilante personnel has swiftly cordoned off and secured the affected area. Specialist EOD-CBRN teams are on-site conducting a thorough assessment.

“We are grateful to confirm that there are no casualties. While a building in the staff quarters was damaged, the occupants had already evacuated safely.

“The Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state had reinforced the area with additional tactical deployments to maintain public order.”

The police spokesman added that the CP assured the general public that a comprehensive investigation was ongoing.

“We urge the public to remain calm and avoid the immediate vicinity to support the ongoing security and investigative operations. Further updates will be provided as necessary,” he said.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, critical stakeholders of the All Democratic Congress (ADC) have called for the zoning of the House of Representatives ticket for Ado, Okpokwu, and Ogbadibo Federal Constituency to Okpokwu Local Government Area.

The call was made during a crucial stakeholders’ meeting attended by all ward chairmen, the party secretary from Edumoga District, and women and youth leaders across the wards in Eke, Edumoga district on Monday.

The stakeholders emphasized that the three local government areas have collectively completed eight years in the position, and for equity, the ticket should now return to Okpokwu.

“The principle of equity demands that Okpokwu produces the next representative for the federal constituency. For too long, the rotation has favoured other areas, and it is now time to ensure fairness and balance.

“This is not just a demand from Okpokwu; it is a call for justice for all three local government areas, Ado, Okpokwu, and Ogbadibo.

“Respecting this agelong arrangement will strengthen unity within the constituency, foster mutual trust among the people and uphold the democratic principles that should guide our party,” said Hon. Christian Abba, an elder from Edumoga.

Mr. Michael Ogwuche, Chairman of the ADC Ward Chairmen Forum, urged other aspirants from outside Okpokwu to step down to allow the zoning arrangement to stand. “We must respect the zoning agreement in Enone to maintain unity within our party and strengthen our chances in the 2027 elections.

“Ignoring this principle could create divisions, weaken our collective strength, and undermine the confidence of our supporters across the constituency. By honouring the rotation and ensuring that Okpokwu produces the next representative, we are not only upholding fairness but also sending a clear message that the ADC is committed to internal democracy, inclusiveness, and the principles of justice that our people expect from us,” he stated.

Inside Nigeria’s Senate, grief, rage and fear are driving a hard choice, as lawmakers confront a chilling question from the Justice Sector and Rights groups wondering whether hanging kidnappers will save the nation, or haunt it. Sunday Aborisade reports.

The mood inside the National Assembly penultimate week was unmistakably grim. Outside the chamber, Nigeria reeled from yet another week of abductions, schoolchildren snatched from classrooms, farmers dragged from fields, commuters kidnapped on highways turned into killing grounds. Inside, senators gathered under the weight of public anger, searching for an answer bold enough to reassure a frightened nation.

What emerged was one of the most controversial legislative pushes in recent history: a proposal to impose the death penalty for kidnapping by classifying it as terrorism. To many lawmakers, it felt like the ultimate show of resolve. To Nigeria’s justice establishment, it felt like a fatal mistake.

As the Senate Joint Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters; National Security and Intelligence; and Interior convened a public hearing on amendments to the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, something rare occurred.

Almost every major justice, legal and human rights institution in the country lined up on one side of the argument, and it was not the Senate’s.

Attorney-General of the Federation, Nigerian Bar Association, the National Human Rights Commission, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, the Nigerian Law Reform Commission, the Federation of Women Lawyers, the Department of State Services and other stakeholders spoke with one voice: the death penalty will not stop kidnapping.

Their opposition was not rooted in sympathy for criminals. It was anchored in law, experience and an uncomfortable reading of Nigeria’s own history.

No one disputed the scale of the crisis. Kidnapping has metastasised into a lucrative, organised and militarised enterprise. Ransoms now routinely run into tens or hundreds of millions of naira.

Victims are sometimes killed even after payment. Communities are abandoned. Schools are shut. Agriculture is disrupted. Families are bankrupt. Fear has become a constant companion of daily life.

It was this national trauma that shaped the Senate’s earlier debate at plenary, where lawmakers overwhelmingly backed a bill sponsored by Senate Leader, Senator OpeyemiBamidele.

The proposed amendment seeks to designate kidnapping, hostage-taking and related offences as acts of terrorism, extending capital punishment not only to kidnappers but also to their financiers, informants, harbourers, transporters and logistics suppliers.

Presiding over that session, Senate President, GodswillAkpabio described kidnapping as an existential threat.

Support came from across party lines. Senator Adams Oshiomhole dismissed deradicalisationprogrammes as failures and argued that death was the only language terrorists understood.

Senator Orji UzorKalu spoke of widows and violated girls, insisting Nigerians had suffered enough. Senator Victor Umeh demanded scrutiny of banks and institutions allegedly facilitating ransom payments.

Minority Leader, Abba Moro declared that the Senate could no longer allow the country to be terrorised. It was, politically, an easy moment to be tough.

Unfortunately the public hearing that followed the lawmakers debate told a more complicated story.

Leading the resistance was the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN). His intervention cut through the emotional fog. While acknowledging the Senate’s concern and the gravity of kidnapping, he warned that mandatory capital punishment could backfire spectacularly.

Fagbemi said, “Though emotionally appealing, the death penalty risks creating what may be described as a ‘martyrdom effect’.”

In terror-related or ideological conflicts, he noted that state-sanctioned executions can validate criminal narratives, fuel recruitment and provoke cycles of retaliatory violence. Far from deterring crime, they can entrench it.

More troubling, Fagbemi warned, were the international consequences. Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts rely heavily on cooperation with foreign governments like intelligence sharing, financial tracking and extradition of suspects.

Many of those countries, he explained, had abolished the death penalty and will not extradite individuals to face execution.

“This could unintentionally turn other countries into safe havens for terror suspects and financiers,” the AGF cautioned, “thereby weakening, rather than strengthening, Nigeria’s security architecture.”

He reminded lawmakers of another inconvenient reality: Nigeria rarely carries out executions.

Though death sentences remain on the statute books, a de facto moratorium has existed for years. The result is a swelling population of death-row inmates, overcrowded correctional facilities, prolonged incarceration and prisons that risk becoming incubators for further radicalisation.

Fagbemi argued: “Our problem is not that punishments are not severe enough. It is that arrests are uncertain, investigations are weak and prosecutions are slow.”

His prescription was blunt: certainty of arrest and conviction, backed by life imprisonment without parole for the most heinous offences.

The National Human Rights Commission reinforced this argument with constitutional force.

While recognising the Senate’s intention to curb violent crime, the Commission warned that expanding capital punishment within a criminal justice system still plagued by investigative failures and prosecutorial gaps significantly increases the risk of irreversible miscarriages of justice.

Any law, the NHRC insisted, must enhance, not diminish, the enjoyment of human rights and comply with Nigeria’s constitutional safeguards and international obligations.

It called for a mandatory human rights impact assessment of the Bill before passage, stressing that once an execution is carried out, there is no remedy for error.

The Nigerian Bar Association took a scalpel to the proposal. Its concern was not only punishment but precision.

Kidnapping, the NBA argued, is not automatically terrorism. A blanket classification risks distorting both criminal law and international legal standards.

The association recommended that only kidnapping involving organised criminal or terrorist networks, or acts intended to intimidate the public or coerce government, should fall within terrorism legislation.

It urged lawmakers to abandon mandatory death sentences in favour of graduated, discretionary sentencing that reflects intent, role, harm and outcome.

Judicial discretion, the NBA said, is not weakness; it is justice. Penalties could range from lengthy imprisonment to life sentences, with death, if retained at all, reserved for the most extreme and aggravated circumstances.

The NBA also warned of technical pitfalls: vague definitions of intent, unclear accomplice liability, absence of defences such as duress, and conflicts with existing state anti-kidnapping laws.

In its view, a poorly drafted federal amendment could create confusion rather than clarity.

Within the hearing room, even some senators acknowledged the complexity.

Senator Ekong Sampson argued that criminal law must differentiate between attempted kidnapping, cases where victims are released unharmed and those ending in death. Lumping all scenarios together, he suggested, risks injustice.

An international perspective came from Prof. UchennaEmelonye, former United Nations Human Rights Envoy and Professor of Human Rights Law at Bournemouth University. He described the convergence of opposition as extraordinary.

Emelonye said, “What we are seeing here is not ideological posturing but empirical reality.”

Global evidence, he argued, shows that expanding the death penalty does not stop kidnapping.

Countries that have succeeded, he argued, did so through intelligence-led policing, effective investigations, speedy trials, border control, arms regulation and victim-centred justice.

Broadening capital punishment in a fragile system, he warned, invites wrongful convictions without delivering measurable security gains.

By the end of the hearing, the Senate committees promised to study all submissions carefully.

Yet, the dilemma facing lawmakers remains stark.

Every day, new kidnappings inflame public anger. Every murdered victim strengthens the demand for ultimate punishment.

For politicians, the gallows offer the appearance of decisiveness. But history suggests that laws born of rage rarely produce safety.

Nigeria stands at a crossroads. One path offers swift, symbolic retribution that satisfies outrage but risks injustice, diplomatic isolation and deeper insecurity.

The other demands the slower, harder work of reforming policing, intelligence, prosecution and prisons.

As the Senate weighs its final report, the question lingers, heavy and unresolved: will Nigeria choose the comfort of vengeance, or the discipline of justice?

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has dismissed the portrayal of  Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, as the “national leader” of the party, describing the nomenclature as reckless, misleading and alien to the PDP Constitution.

The party said no provision in its constitution creates or recognises the office or position of a “national leader,” challenging those promoting the claim to point to any constitutional backing for such a title.

Addressing journalists in Bauchi, the publicity secretary of the PDP in Bauchi State, Dayyabu Chiroma, said the party remains a constitutionally governed political organisation with clearly defined organs and leadership structures, stressing that authority within the party cannot be acquired through self-ascribed titles or political propaganda.

Chiroma further stated that Wike and individuals acting alongside him are no longer members of the PDP, having been expelled by the party’s National Convention, and therefore lack the moral, political or legal standing to influence or determine the internal affairs and direction of the party.

He accused the group of pursuing a narrow and self-serving agenda, noting that their demand that the PDP should refrain from fielding a presidential candidate in the forthcoming general election, despite the office being zoned to the Southern part of the country, clearly exposes their ulterior motives and hostility to the survival of the party.

Chiroma reaffirmed that the core objective of the party, as a truly national platform, is to sponsor candidates for all elective offices across Nigeria in line with its constitution, democratic principles and the aspirations of the Nigerian people.

He warned that any proposition contrary to this fundamental objective amounts to anti-party activity and constitutes a direct attack on the integrity, unity and future of the PDP.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, in court today, December 30.

Malami, who served as Justice Minister for eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari, will face trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

His plea is expected to be taken by Justice Emeka Nwite on 16-count charges, including money laundering and other related offences.

EFCC operatives have reportedly taken over security at the court premises to prevent any disruption to the proceedings.

Malami has been in EFCC custody for nearly a month as part of investigations into alleged money laundering and corruption during his tenure as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, including suspicions of mismanagement of government funds and other financial irregularities.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign a former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, on Tuesday before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged money laundering offences.

Malami will be docked alongside his son, Abubakar Malami, and Bashir Asabe, an employee of Rahamaniyya Properties Ltd, a firm allegedly linked to the former justice minister.

The case will be heard before Justice Emeka Nwite, with the defendants facing a 16-count charge.

What court document is saying  

According to court documents, the EFCC accused the defendants of engaging in multiple suspicious financial transactions aimed at concealing the unlawful origin of billions of naira through bank accounts and extensive property acquisitions in Abuja, Kano and Kebbi States.

The alleged offences were said to have occurred between 2015 and 2025, a period that includes the eight years Malami served as Attorney-General under the administration of late former President Muhammadu Buhari. 

The anti-graft agency stated that Malami had been under investigation at its Abuja office since December 8, 2025.

EFCC details alleged conspiracy and asset concealment 

In the charge, the commission alleged that Malami, his son and Asabe “conspired to disguise the origin of funds, acquire property indirectly, and retain sums they knew were proceeds of unlawful activity”, in violation of the Money Laundering (Prohibition and Prevention) Acts of 2011 (as amended) and 2022.

In count one, the EFCC alleged that between July 2022 and June 2025, Malami and his son directed Metropolitan Auto Tech Limited to conceal N1,014,848,500 in a Sterling Bank account, knowing the funds were illicit.

Count two accused the duo of concealing N600,013,460.40 through the same company between September 2020 and February 2021.

In count three, the EFCC alleged that in March 2021, Malami and his son retained N600 million as cash collateral for a N500 million Sterling Bank loan to Rayhaan Hotels Ltd, despite allegedly knowing the funds were unlawful.

Luxury properties allegedly acquired with Illicit funds 

In count four, the commission alleged that in November 2022, Malami, his son and Asabe disguised N500 million used to purchase a luxury duplex in Maitama, Abuja.

Count five claimed that between November 2022 and September 2024, the trio concealed N1,049,173,926.13 paid through Meethaq Hotels Ltd’s Union Bank account, while count six alleged that between November 2022 and October 2025, Malami and his son took control of N1,362,887,872.96 from the same account, knowing it was illicit.

In count seven, the EFCC alleged that between November and December 2018, Malami and Asabe concealed N700 million used to purchase No. 3 Onitsha Crescent, Garki, Abuja, through Hamonia Hotels Ltd.

Count eight accused the defendants of concealing N850 million between September and December 2020 to buy a property in Jabi District, Abuja, allegedly via Meethaq Hotels Ltd.

Additional property acquisitions listed in charges 

In count nine, the EFCC alleged that in February 2018, Malami and Hajia Bashir acquired No. 3 Rhine Street, Maitama, Abuja, for N430 million, allegedly from unlawful sources.

Count 10 alleged the concealment of N210 million in February 2018 to purchase a property in Asokoro District, Abuja, while count 11 accused the defendants of concealing N325 million between March and June 2021 to acquire No. 1241B Asokoro District.

In count 12, the EFCC alleged that between November 2015 and January 2016, Malami and his son concealed N120 million used to purchase No. 27 Efab Estate, Gwarimpa, Abuja.

Count 13 accused the former AGF, his son and Asabe of conspiring in November 2022 to conceal funds used to acquire a luxury duplex on Amazon Street, Maitama, Abuja.

In count 14, the commission alleged that between December 2016 and April 2022, Malami, Asabe and others “conspired to acquire additional properties” with proceeds of unlawful activity.

Count 15 alleged that between June 2023 and January 2023, Malami concealed “N537 million used to purchase multiple properties across Abuja, Kebbi, and Kano.” 

In count 16, the EFCC alleged that between October 2018 and December 2021, Malami concealed “N415 million used to acquire several properties in Abuja, Kebbi, and Kano.” 

Witnesses and evidence 

The EFCC said it plans to call several witnesses, including its own officials, bank representatives, Bureau de Change operators and financial experts.

Key witnesses listed include Folarin Dare, Chinedu Eneanya, Sani Lukeman, Abdulrahman Musa Basheer, Jamilu Mohammed, as well as representatives of Zenith Bank Plc and Sterling Bank Plc.

Folarin Dare, Chinedu Eneanya and Sani Lukeman are expected to testify on how the commission received intelligence reports and petitions alleging large-scale corruption involving the former minister.

Abdulrahman Musa Basheer is expected to give evidence on the role of Rahamaniyya Properties Ltd in allegedly acquiring properties on Malami’s behalf.

In response, a joint security team comprising police, military personnel, and vigilante groups was deployed to cordon off and secure the affected area.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman Anisma, said specialist EOD-CBRN teams were on the ground conducting a detailed assessment of the situation at the hospital.

He confirmed that no casualties were recorded, although a building within the hospital’s staff quarters sustained damage. The occupants of the affected building were safely evacuated.

US President Donald Trump warned Iran of fresh strikes and said Hamas would have “hell to pay” if it fails to disarm in Gaza, as he presented a united front with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.

Speaking at a news conference with Netanyahu in Florida, Trump threatened to “eradicate” any attempt by Tehran to rebuild its nuclear program or ballistic missile arsenal following US and Israeli strikes earlier this year.

Trump also downplayed reports of tensions with Netanyahu over the second stage of the fragile Gaza ceasefire, saying that Israel had “lived up” to its commitments and that the onus was on Palestinian militant group Hamas.

“If they don’t disarm as they agreed to do, then there will be hell to pay for them,” Trump told reporters at his lavish Mar-a-Lago resort. “They have to disarm in a fairly short period of time.”

Hamas’s armed wing reiterated earlier on Monday that it would not surrender its weapons.

A top political adviser to Iran’s supreme leader on Monday said any aggression against his country would be met with an “immediate harsh response.”

“Iran’s #Missile_Capability and defense are not containable or permission-based. Any aggression will face an immediate #Harsh_Response beyond its planners’ imagination,” Ali Shamkhani wrote on X.

– ‘Productive’ meeting –

Netanyahu said his meeting with Trump had been “very productive” and announced that Israel was awarding the US leader its highest civilian honor — the first time it has gone to a non-Israeli citizen.

Trump, the self-proclaimed “president of peace,” has been keen to move onto the next phase of the Gaza truce, which would see a Palestinian technocratic government installed and the deployment of an international stabilization force.

While some White House officials fear Netanyahu is slow-walking the process, Trump said he had “very little difference” with the Israeli premier and was “not concerned about anything that Israel’s doing.”

During their fifth meeting in the United States since Trump’s return to power this year, Netanyahu also appeared to have steered the US leader toward focusing on Israel’s concerns about Iran.

Israeli officials and media have expressed concern in recent months that Iran is rebuilding its ballistic missile arsenal after it came under attack during the 12-day war with Israel in June.

Trump said Iran “may be behaving badly” and was looking at new nuclear sites to replace those targeted by US strikes during the same conflict, as well as restoring its missiles.

“I hope they’re not trying to build up again because if they are, we’re going have no choice but very quickly to eradicate that buildup,” Trump said, adding that the US response “may be more powerful than the last time.”

But Trump said he believed Iran was still interested in a deal with Washington on its nuclear and missile programs. Tehran denies that it is seeking nuclear weapons.

Trump and Netanyahu’s talks also focused on other regional tension points, including Syria and the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon.

Trump said he hoped Netanyahu could “get along” with Syria’s new president, a former Islamist rebel commander who toppled long-term ruler Bashar-al-Assad a year ago, despite a series of Israeli strikes along their border.

Netanyahu’s visit caps a frantic few days of international diplomacy in Palm Beach, where Trump hosted Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday for talks on ending Russia’s invasion.

The Gaza ceasefire in October is one of the major achievements of Trump’s first year back in power, and Washington and regional mediators have hoped to keep their foot on the gas.

The Axios news site said Trump seeks to make announcements as soon as January on an interim government and an international force.

But Trump gave few details beyond saying that he hoped “reconstruction” could begin soon in the Palestinian territory, devastated by Israeli attacks in response to Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attacks.

The disarmament of Hamas however continued to be a sticking point, with its armed wing again saying that it would not surrender its arms.

“Our people are defending themselves and will not give up their weapons as long as the occupation remains,” the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades said in a video message.

In the 1980s and early 1990s, bicycles were one of the major means of movement and were the way to go.

In fact, everyone, especially teachers, farmers, and traders in rural areas, had one.

For some students, parents acquired it for them to go long distances where their schools were located. To others, it was a status symbol.

They were not entirely expensive, but reliable and perfect for navigating traffic in the cities.

On worship days, fathers carry their children with bicycles to churches, women used it to transport their wares on market days. They were also used for carry farm produce home on rugged roads.

The palm wine tapper was noticed with his bottles and gallons of the product hung on it. The sharp sound of the horn heralded his arrival with fresh palm wine from the forest.

But, towards the late 1990s, something drastic happened. As the Nigeria’s economy showed signs of improvement, the bicycle became unpopular and was associated with poverty.

“You’re still riding a bicycle?” became a common taunt. Motorcycles, which were used for private purposes, were turned to commercial usage and became known as Okadas. They took over from bicycles, which were relegated to rural areas.

But let’s not forget the origin: the bicycle was invented in 1817 by German Karl Drais. It was a game-changer, revolutionising personal transport.

Why the decline? Many Nigerians point to rapid urbanisation, insecurity and lack of friendly roads. Bicycles are energy-sapping, time-consuming and move slowly, unlike cars and motorcycles. Bicycles are not fit for long-distance journeys and can’t be used for conveying bulky goods.

Police in Kebbi State have assured residents of Bagudo and surrounding communities that the security situation remains under control following an early-hour explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo, on Tuesday.

According to the police, the incident occurred at about midnight on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, when a loud explosion was reported within the hospital premises, causing panic among residents.

A joint security team, comprising personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the military, and local vigilante groups, was immediately deployed to the scene.

The area was swiftly cordoned off and secured, while Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts commenced a detailed assessment of the situation.

Police confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident. Although a building within the hospital’s staff quarters sustained damage, all occupants had reportedly evacuated the area before the explosion and were unharmed.
The Commissioner of Police in the state has since reinforced security around the hospital with additional tactical units to ensure public safety and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Meanwhile, a comprehensive investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion, according to the police spokesman, Bashir Usman.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and to avoid the immediate vicinity of the hospital to allow security operatives and investigators to carry out their duties effectively.

The command assured that further updates would be communicated as investigations progress.

The Guardian reports that on Monday, residents in Gebbe in the Shanga Local Government Area of the state were thrown into a panic when some gunmen attacked the community, leaving residents scampering to neighbouring villages and nearby bushes.
According to reports, the assailants entered the community without warning, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents. The incident forced many to abandon their homes in search of safety.

Confirming the incident, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said security operatives had been deployed to the area.

“We have been informed of the attack, and the command has deployed a tactical team to the area to get the real information of what happened and the number of victims,” Usman stated.

He explained that officers were assessing the situation to determine the number of lives lost and the injuries sustained, adding that a detailed statement would be issued in due course.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is set to arraign a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice AGF, Abubakar Malami, SAN, in court today, December 30.

Malami, who was Justice Minister for 8 years under former president Muhammadu Buhari, would be put on trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

His plea is expected to be taken by Justice Emeka Nwite on 16-count charges bothering on money laundering, among others.

At the time of this report, operatives of the EFCC have taken over security control of the court promises to ward off possible threat to the court proceedings.

Malami has been in EFCC custody for close to one month as part of investigation into alleged money laundering and corruption linked to his tenure as Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, involving suspicions of mishandling government funds and other financial irregularities.

The wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, Regina Akume has warned her husband to return to Christianity or he will not be successful.

Regina, who is the member representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, gave the warning during the wedding reception of the SGF’s son, which held on Sunday in Makurdi, Benue State.

She stated that her husband’s rise and achievements were rooted in his Christian faith.

A video of her comments, later circulated on social media, was shared by Idoma Television on Monday.

In the video, Akume prayed for her husband’s long life and good health, while advising him not to abandon Christianity.

She said, “I pray that the Lord will increase his years, good health of mind and body, and give him clarity in thinking and doing things right.

“And he should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that brought him this far. To drop Christianity now and go for anything else, he will not be successful.

“So my advice to him is to come back to Christianity and follow the line of Christ. We came all the way to the office of SGF, not through enemies but through Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is still alive and still working for us. I wish that he would come back to Christianity.”

Her comments come amid widespread discussions following reports that the SGF recently married another wife.

Akume reportedly married Zaynab Ngohemba-George, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

The marriage became public on December 26, 2025, after a Facebook post by Abraham Double-D Dajoh, a member of the Akume Dajoh family from Mbakor, Benue State, welcoming Zaynab into the family.
