The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on Nigerians not to lose hope due to the challenges in the country and said it has come to rescue Nigeria from the failures of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, in his New Year message to Nigerians, said the party is aware of the repeated failure of governments to deliver on past promises.

Mark noted that many are sceptical, but called on them to overcome their doubts and cynicism and join the ADC in its historic mission to rescue the country.

“We do not claim to be perfect, but do not doubt our sense of duty and our commitment to be on the good side of history,” he added.

The former President of the Senate stated that ADC as a coalition platform was born out of necessity, “to arrest Nigeria’s gradual descent into an authoritarian one-party state, and to rescue our country from a government that behaves more like an army of occupation than a government elected by the people, for the people.”

He added that the party was conscious of the responsibilities before it, adding that the legitimacy of the rescue mission will depend on the willingness of Nigerians to commit to a higher principle of politics, driven primarily by patriotism and service to the people.

“Since we announced the coalition, we have been encouraged by the overwhelming support and enthusiasm of ordinary Nigerians across the length and breadth of our country,” he said.

Mark noted that the year 2025 was a difficult year for the majority of Nigerians, stating that the renewed hope the All Progressives Congress (APC) government promised has yielded more misery and widespread hardship, as Nigerians battled with the rising cost of living.

“Food, basic drugs, and transportation were priced out of the reach of most people as a result of the government’s misguided policies, which have condemned more people to multidimensional poverty,” he added.

The ADC National Chairman, however, said, “When all hope appeared lost, when the ship of our country floundered, when it looked like Nigeria would never rise again, it would be said that some people came together, not because they were perfect, but because they recognised the significance of the moment and said Nigeria must not fail. It must rise again.”

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has welcomed Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

PREMIUM TIMES reported that Mr Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), defected to the ADC on Wednesday in Enugu.

Mr Obi, earlier in 2025, declared his intention to contest in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

‘Significant moment’

In a post on his Facebook page Wednesday evening, Atiku, a member of the ADC, said Mr Obi’s defection to the party “marks a significant moment in the history of political coalition” in Nigeria.

“It is my pleasure to welcome him officially, as we look forward to a robust working relationship that will foster a virile opposition, one that will ultimately form a government capable of bringing prosperity and peace to our people,” he said.

The former Nigerian vice-president, who is also seeking the ADC 2027 presidential ticket, described Mr Obi as “my brother and associate.”

He expressed hope that Mr Obi’s defection to the ADC in Enugu State would help inspire others to join the party in the South-east.

“And as the ADC coalition train leaves Enugu, the capital of the South-east region, I hope this inspires other patriots to join the cause with the train headed in their direction,” he said.

Mr Obi’s defection to the ADC is a confirmation that the former governor will seek the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election.

The former governor was Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election, running under the PDP platform.

Atiku and Mr Obi were the presidential candidates of the PDP and the LP in 2023, respectively, but lost to the APC candidate, Bola Tinubu, who is now the president.

Both politicians vigorously but unsuccessfully challenged Mr Tinubu’s victory at various courts in Nigeria, including the country’s Supreme Court.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have neutralised several top terrorist commanders in ongoing operations against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality across the country.

The Nigerian defence authorities disclosed that hundreds of notorious terrorist leaders—many of whom were on the military’s wanted list—have been eliminated across various theatres of operation.

Among the high-profile terrorist commanders, their lieutenants, and foot soldiers taken out are Aminu Kanawa, Dan Bokolo, Bello Buba, Dan Inna, Halilu Sabubu, Abu Dan Shehu Jabbi, Dogo Bashiru Yellow, Abba Allai (also known as Amirul Khalid of Alafa), Amir Abu Fatimah, Kingpin Auta, Abdul Jamilu, Salisu, Malla Jidda, Talha, Mallam Umar, Abu Yazeed, Kabiru Bebe, Maiwada, Mai Dada, and Nwachi Eze (aka Onowu).
Other notorious bandits eliminated include those known by the pseudonyms Dosso, Suleiman, Jagaban, and Danja.

The Director of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Major General Michael Onoja, made the disclosure while addressing Defence Correspondents on Thursday in Abuja during a briefing on end-of-year military operations.

Maj. Gen. Onoja stated that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) is aware that some terrorist factions are relocating to certain communities in response to sustained military pressure on their strongholds.

“Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets are actively monitoring terrorist movements across various operational theatres. Several movements have been identified and are currently being tracked,” he said.

He affirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with other security agencies, have intensified proactive measures to prevent fleeing terrorists from infiltrating or destabilising communities.

According to him, troops have continued to conduct both kinetic and non-kinetic operations aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities, neutralising specific threats, protecting civilians, and creating a secure environment for economic activities to thrive.

Providing an overview of military operations conducted nationwide in 2025, Maj. Gen. Onoja highlighted significant operational achievements in the sustained effort to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty, protect lives and property, and uphold national security.

He added that troops have continued to adapt to evolving security challenges.
Within the period under review, troops arrested 4,375 suspects, received the surrender of 1,616 terrorists and their family members, and successfully rescued 2,336 kidnapped victims.

He further revealed that troops of Operation DELTA SAFE thwarted oil theft valued at ₦8,918,647,206.
The Director noted that reports of an influx of armed herders into some communities are being taken seriously by defence authorities. He urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies, while encouraging prompt reporting of any suspicious movements or activities.

Maj. Gen. Onoja reaffirmed the Defence Headquarters’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining national security, stressing that the AFN and other security stakeholders remain resolute in denying terrorists, insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements freedom of action across the country.

He added that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oloyede, personally commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism, assuring Nigerians of the military’s continued determination to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

The Labour Party (LP) has described the defection of its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a relief, declaring that the party has now been “finally liberated” from an internal crisis it blamed on the former presidential flagbearer and his allies.

The party also pleaded for forgiveness from Nigerians for presenting Obi as its presidential candidate in 2023 election, saying it was a major political error.

LEADERSHIP had reported that Obi announced his defection to ADC in Enugu State on Wednesday, where he delivered a New Year address, accusing the current political leadership of state capture, economic mismanagement and systematic erosion of democratic values. He also said his defection was guided solely by patriotism and national interest.

But, in a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday and signed by LP National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party said it had long parted ways with Obi and was unsurprised by his exit.

“We have since September 2024 parted ways with Peter Obi and some of his blind supporters in the National Assembly. We have patiently waited for this day. The party is finally liberated by this defection and, as party leaders, we count it as a blessing,” the statement read.

The party also took a swipe at Obi’s address during his formal declaration at the ADC event in Enugu, describing it as uninspiring.

“We also took note of the lacklustre speech Mr. Obi made at the occasion, and wondered what new he intends to sell to Nigerians,” LP stated.

According to the party, Obi and Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, were responsible for the prolonged leadership crisis within the Labour Party, alleging that both sponsored “an insurrection against the Julius Abure leadership.”

“The crisis we had in Labour Party was caused by Peter Obi and the Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti. It was them that sponsored the insurrection against the Julius Abure leadership,” the party claimed.

LP added that it had previously urged Obi and his supporters to leave the party if they could not work with its leadership, noting that several lawmakers were suspended for anti-party activities.

“As a matter of fact, the party had suspended many of the lawmakers for anti-party activities and was clearly going to mete the same treatment on the presidential candidate but for the intervention of some well-meaning Nigerians,” the statement said.

The party also expressed surprise that Governor Otti had not followed Obi out of the party despite his suspension.

“We had also expected Governor Otti to follow Obi out of the party. We are surprised that even though he has been suspended from the party, he is still loitering around. It is still not too late for him to follow his political leader,” it added.

Reacting to the Enugu event, the Labour Party claimed that the gathering was largely boycotted by key political and traditional stakeholders in the South-East politics, dismissing those in attendance as lacking political relevance.

“All we saw were mere political spent forces who cannot win in their wards should there be an election today,” the party said, warning that this was “a clear danger signal that the Obi presidency (or vice presidency) is already a failed project from inception.”

The party further argued that Obi’s 2023 presidential bid had negatively affected the South East, alleging that the zone suffered marginalisation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as a result of misplaced political trust.

“He must be told that the South East lost out completely in President Ahmed Tinubu’s government because they trusted and believed in him in 2023,” LP stated, noting that while “some states of the federation boast as much as five ministers, the entire states in the South East was given a paltry five ministerial slot.”

In a rare admission, the Labour Party apologised to Nigerians for presenting Obi as its presidential candidate in 2023, conceding it as a major political error.

“We gave Nigerians a candidate we thought was good for the nation in 2023, but time has since proved that we made the greatest political mistake. We plead for forgiveness from Nigerians,” the party said.

The party has pledged to rebuild and reposition ahead of future elections.

“Finally, we urge Nigerians to watch out for the Labour Party. We are already working out the best prospect that we hope will bring Nigeria back to its glorious days,” it added.

The Presidency has reacted to the defection of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Obi would likely end up as a running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, similar to what played out during the 2019 general elections.

Onanuga said he watched Obi formally join the ADC after leaving the party he used to pursue what he described as an ill-fated presidential ambition.

The presidential spokesman also criticised Obi’s leadership credentials, claiming he lacked the pedigree for national leadership beyond his success as an importer.

“Obi is so blind that he cannot see all these achievements. He has jumped from the Labour Party to the ADC, where he will play second fiddle and end up being Atiku’s running mate in 2027, just as we witnessed in 2019,” Onanuga said.

The Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State has said Nigeria cannot afford to degenerate into a one-party state.

Prof. Sylvester Monye, state chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Delta State, stated this in a heartfelt New Year message to the people of the state at home and in the diaspora, stressing that a strong and functional opposition is indispensable to Nigeria’s democracy.

According to him, he is confident that adherence to democratic principles will safeguard the integrity and independence of all political parties, including the PDP.

While extending greetings to party leaders and faithful members across the state who, he said, heroically stood firm and made untold sacrifices to keep the party thriving, Monye noted that the beginning of a new year is always an appropriate moment for reflection and renewed commitment to service, guided by the principles of peace, equity and collective responsibility.

He said it was therefore crucial for all political actors to adhere strictly to due process, internal democracy and the highest standards of political conduct, warning that decisions taken now would have far-reaching consequences for Nigeria’s democratic system.

According to him, with certain matters involving the PDP currently before the courts, the party wishes to underscore the Supreme Court’s consistent position that the internal affairs of a political party are primarily to be managed by the party itself, without undue judicial interference.

Monye said that despite differences in political affiliation, Deltans are united by a shared duty to uphold the stability, unity and orderly development of the state.
Their mandate, he said, is to ensure that the PDP remains cohesive, responsive and ready to play its constitutional role in Delta State, a traditional PDP stronghold.

He urged all leaders and members of the PDP in the state to conduct themselves with discipline, restraint and respect for party rules and democratic norms, noting that the credibility of the party’s internal processes would ultimately determine its standing before the electorate.

“To the good people of Delta State, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to protecting your interests and aspirations. In the days ahead, the Caretaker Committee will continue broad-based consultations and engagement with stakeholders across the state, ensuring that political discourse remains focused on good governance, development, and the rule of law.

“The year 2026 is particularly significant, as it precedes the 2027 general elections and will see the conduct of party primaries.

“In Anyanwu v. PDP and the recent SDP v. INEC decision, the court affirmed that courts should exercise restraint and respect the autonomy of political parties.

“In line with the the legal principle of “stare decisis”, we trust that the judiciary will continue to uphold these established precedents, thereby safeguarding party independence, legal certainty, and the stability of democratic processes, while respecting ongoing proceedings.

Aradel Holdings Plc has completed the acquisition of an additional 40% equity interest in ND Western Limited (NDW), lifting its total shareholding in the upstream company from 41.67% to 81.67%.

According to the company’s corporate disclosure filed with the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Wednesday, December 31, the consolidation transactions was finalised on 31 December 2025, and positions NDW as a full subsidiary of Aradel Energy Limited.

The acquisition also increases Aradel’s indirect ownership in Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited (Renaissance) from 33.3% to 53.3%, granting the company majority control in the joint venture operator of the prolific OML 34 asset.

The transaction, initially announced on 24 October 2025, followed the fulfilment of all regulatory and contractual conditions, including approvals from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

How the deal deepens Aradel’s footprint in OML 34 and Renaissance JV 

ND Western holds a 45% participating interest in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 34 in the Western Niger Delta. The asset, one of Nigeria’s major oil and gas-producing hubs, also anchors the operations of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, the joint venture operator in which NDW owns 50% share capital.

By raising its stake in NDW to 81.67%, Aradel significantly expands its upstream influence, giving it stronger operational leverage within the Renaissance JV and across the OML 34 value chain.

The company’s release, signed by the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Adegbola Adesina, confirmed that the transaction received all necessary regulatory clearances, including from NUPRC and FCCPC, and complies with all governance and disclosure requirements.

Aradel described the acquisition as aligned with its long-term strategy of disciplined portfolio consolidation, asset expansion, and sustainable value creation. The company said the increased ownership supports improved scale, efficiency, and resilience across its asset portfolio.

CEO says acquisition drives scale, efficiency, and long-term value 

Commenting on the transaction, Aradel’s Chief Executive Officer, Adegbitte Falade, said the acquisition is “a further step in the execution of our growth and consolidation strategy.” 

“Increasing our equity interest in ND Western reinforces Aradel’s position as a leading indigenous integrated energy company and enhances our ability to drive long-term value for shareholders through scale, operational efficiency, and portfolio optimisation,” Falade stated.

With this move, Aradel strengthens its status as one of Nigeria’s most significant indigenous players in the upstream oil and gas sector, amid a wider industry shift toward consolidation and improved capital efficiency.

Stock performance after news break 

The stock closed on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at N670.00 per share on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), recording a 1.5% drop from its previous closing price of N679.90. This suggests that the market is yet to respond to positive news about the deal.

Aradel began the year with a share price of N598.00 and has since gained 12% on that price valuation, ranking it 105th on the NGX in terms of year-to-date performance.

On Monday, October 28, the stock hit its year high of N869.00 per share before moderating to the current price.

Aradel Holdings is the 41st most traded stock on the Nigerian Stock Exchange over the past three months between Oct 2 and Dec 31, 2025. It has traded a total volume of 196 million shares in 44,117 deals valued at N134 billion over the period, with an average of 3.11 million traded shares per session.

A volume high of 30.4 million was achieved on November 17th, and a low of 211,676 on November 28th, for the same period.

A former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Moruf Musa, has been abducted by gunmen and taken to an undisclosed location.

Musa was reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday evening at about 7pm from his residence in Ibiade, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The hotelier, who previously served as Chief Whip of the Ogun State House of Assembly, is also the Coordinator of the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Movement, a group promoting the 2027 second-term senatorial ambition of Senator Gbenga Daniel, who represents Ogun East in the 10th Senate.

As of the time of filing this report, it was unclear whether the kidnappers had contacted Musa’s family to demand a ransom.

When contacted on the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed that the police were already handling the matter.

“We are working on it,” Ogunlowo said.

.As traders beg for moratorium

The Lagos State Environmental and Sanitation Corps, LAGESC, popularly called KAI, has announced plans to intensify crackdown on illegal street trading, hawking, and roadside activities across the metropolis from January , 2026, warning that wares displayed on public roads and pedestrian walkways will be cleared and confiscated.

Total ban on street trading

Recall that the state government has declared a complete ban on street trading, beggars, hawking and other environmental nuisances across the state.

In terms of enforcement, KAI operatives have been conducting regular operations to clear roads, pedestrian bridges, and walkways of traders and miscreant with arrests and prosecution of violators.

The Corps Marshal of LAGESC, Major Olaniyi Cole (Retd), made the declaration during the Lagos West Senatorial District Stakeholders’ Meeting 2025, held at the Multi-Agency Safety Arena Hall, Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos as part of activities marking the end of the year.

The event, themed: “Building a Cleaner Lagos: Improving Compliance with Environmental Sanitation Laws,” had in attendance market leaders, transport unions, community leaders, government officials and members of the public.

Cole said the enforcement drive aligns with the Lagos State Government’s policy to eliminate street trading and other environmental infractions in order to promote the culture of a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment for residents.

The retired senior military man, said the measure has become expedient following series of petitions and nuisance being constituted on the highway by recalcitrant traders.

According to him, “The Community Stakeholders Meetings, initiated in 2022, provide a platform for collaboration among market associations, local governments and development councils, environmental officers and sister agencies such as: the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Lagos State Parks Agency (LASPARK) and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), with the aim of encouraging voluntary compliance with environmental laws.

“Throughout the year 2025, LAGESC intensified enforcement operations across major highways, inner roads, markets, pedestrian bridges and public spaces.

“These operations targeted street trading, illegal refuse dumping, abuse of road setbacks and medians, blockage of drainage channels and the unlawful occupation of pedestrian bridges.”

During the interactive session, Cole assured stakeholders that concerns about the performance of some Private Sector Participants, PSPs, waste operators were being addressed.

He however, cautioned market leaders against encouraging illegal market structures and reiterated the agency’s commitment to working with Community Development Associations and Committees.

Cole cited a recent three-week collaboration with Amuwo-Odofin Local Government that led to the removal of hundreds of environmental infractions.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Dr. Gaji Tajudeen, represented by Mr. Sanni Olayinka, described KAI as a frontline agency in enforcing environmental sanitation laws in Lagos.

“KAI has continued to promote orderliness, cleanliness and public safety through sustained advocacy, monitoring and enforcement.

“The Corps’ street-level presence and digital engagement have increased public awareness of environmental responsibilities,”PS stated.

A representative of LAWMA, Mr. Jacob Ashogba, explained that delays at dump sites during the rainy season were largely due to operational challenges, assuring residents that efforts were being intensified to improve waste evacuation across the state in the coming years.

Also speaking, the Iyaloja-General of Oshodi, Sikirat Adeyanju, commended KAI operatives for sustained environmental surveillance, disclosing that market leaders in Oshodi now engage late-night sweepers to ensure daily waste evacuation, a move she said has improved cleanliness in the area.

She also praised the President-General of the Association of Commodity Market Women and Men of Nigeria, Chief Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, for what she described as visionary leadership.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of LASPARK, LNSA, the Nigerian Legion, market associations, community development groups and stakeholders from Ikeja, Agege, Mushin, Ifako-Ijaiye, Alimosho, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Oshodi-Isolo, Ojo, Amuwo-Odofin and Badagry areas.

However, mixed reactions trailed the planned enforcement on street trading as members of the Market Association appealed to the agency to grant a moratorium at the start of the new year, requesting additional time to engage traders involved in roadside trading.

Former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has called on Nigerians to demand accountable governance and people-oriented reforms as the country enters the New Year 2026, amid lingering economic hardship and insecurity.

In a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, Amaechi extended goodwill to Nigerians, praying for peace and prosperity in households across the country.

He acknowledged that the outgoing year had severely tested the nation’s resilience, with many families grappling with rising costs of living, economic challenges, and widespread insecurity.

According to him, the New Year should mark a turning point in Nigeria’s national aspirations, urging citizens to collectively insist on peace, unity, improved security, economic stability, and the overall well-being of the people by holding leaders accountable.

Amaechi stressed the need for leadership that is responsible, transparent, responsive, and truly accountable to the people, adding that Nigerians must demand economic reforms capable of creating jobs, reducing poverty, and ensuring access to affordable healthcare, housing, food, and quality education.

He also called for comprehensive political and electoral reforms to guarantee free, fair, and transparent elections, noting that justice, fairness, and the rule of law must remain the cornerstone of Nigeria’s democracy.

“For me, I will continue to stand firm with Nigerians, speak truth to power, challenge policies that deepen suffering, and offer constructive direction that can restore dignity, honour, economic prosperity, and improve security,” Amaechi said.

The former Rivers State governor emphasised that Nigeria’s greatness lies not in the hands of a privileged few, but in the collective resolve of ordinary citizens to build a nation where opportunity and prosperity are shared by all.

He expressed hope that the New Year would bring healing to the country, renewed courage to its people, and a brighter future for coming generations.

Federal Housing Authority (FHA)

Tulwu Integrated Ltd has rejected claims made by the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) regarding alleged land encroachment at Gwarinpa Estate, describing them as “baseless” and contrary to official records.

In a statement, the company said its Managing Director, Hajia Sadiya, had no involvement in any illegal encroachment or assault on officers, contradicting a press release published by the FHA on 19 December 2025.

The FHA had claimed that Tulwu Integrated, through Sadiya, encroached on an additional 6,000 square metres of land, asserting that Savannah Suites Ltd initially held a 16,000-square-metre allocation which was later transferred to Tulwu Integrated. The Authority also alleged threats by the MD to bring down the FHA Managing Director.

Tulwu Integrated countered that the land allocation and subsequent conversion approvals were fully documented.

According to the company, FHA records show that the original 16,000-square-metre allocation to Savannah Suites was subject to survey, which later confirmed a total area of 22,017 square metres.

“We wish to put it on records and is there in all correspondonces that the FHA allocated the land to Savannah Suites & Restaurant Ltd. via a letter of allocation Ref. No. FHA/LEM/GWA. It was later assigned our firm Tulwu Integrated Ltd via a Consent Letter dated 13 March, 2013, with Ref. No. FHA/LEM/GWAII.

And the FHA approved our application for Conversion of Use from Hotel
Development to Mixed Use Development, via a letter dated 27 July 2023, with Ref. No. FHA/LEM/GWA.Il,” the company said.

The firm cited letters of allocation, consent letters, and change-of-use approvals issued by the FHA over several years, indicating legal ownership.

“After survey 20,220.482 sq metres. This is the same allocation letter signed, stamped and given to Savannah Suites & Restaurant Ltd,” the company said.

It added that the sales agreement transferring the land to Tulwu Integrated also confirmed 22,000 square metres.

The dispute escalated in May 2025 when Tulwu Integrated applied for an approval plan from the FHA. The company claims the Authority delayed issuing the necessary bills to commence development.

Two months later, Tulwu Integrated alleges that a developer, backed by FHA officials and armed police, encroached on the land, destroyed part of the fence, and began construction without notice.

Tulwu Integrated said it obtained a court injunction in July 2025, ordering all parties to maintain the status quo, pending determination of the suit (FCT/HC/B/CV/227/2025), scheduled for January 2026. Despite this, the company alleges further demolition occurred on 15 December 2025, when police officers and FHA staff removed fencing and physically assaulted Hajia Sadiya, who was reportedly pregnant.

The statement added that additional unauthorised construction occurred days later at night, prompting the company to seek further restraining orders through the courts.

Tulwu Integrated affirmed its commitment to due process, stating it would defend its legally acquired property and rights. “Our company shall deploy its energy to ensure that its rights are not trampled upon by anyone irrespective of his current position or political connections,” the statement said.

On July 7, 2025, a group of concerned employees and stakeholders at the FHA wrote a petition calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development to urgently investigate the FHA boss over allegations of corruption, abuse of office, and gross mismanagement.

The concerned staff alleged that the FHA boss had restricted access to key record rooms, where sensitive documents are reportedly tampered with to enable illegal land grabbing and the extortion of property owners.

The FHA has yet to respond publicly to Tulwu Integrated’s counterclaims.

The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, in a bid to further strengthen the operational capabilities, administrative stability and guarantee the smooth implementation of government policies across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), has approved the appointment of nine new Permanent Secretaries in the Public Service of the State.

The appointment was contained in a statement signed by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the appointments were made by the governor in line with the provision of Section 208 (c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and having considered merit, professionalism, inclusiveness and cognate experience in the Civil/Public Service of the State.

The Head of Service explained that the permanent secretary designates were carefully selected from the pool of directors that were successful in the Ogun State executive leadership development pipeline programme.

The new appointees are: Mr. Abdul-Azeez Ajidele, Director of Planning Research & Statistics, Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Soyoye-Baker, Director of Agriculture and State Co-ordinating Director, Cash Transfer Unit, Mrs. Adebimpe Obienu, Director of Public Prosecution, Ministry of Justice and Kafayat Lawal, Executive Secretary, Alternate Medicine Board.

Others include  Mr. Ahmed  Adetona , Director of Audit, Office of the Auditor-General (State), Mr. Idowu Onasanya, Director of Administration & Supplies, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Olalekan Taiwo, Director of Payment, State Treasury Office, Mr. Akintomiwa Osibodu, Director of Administration & Supplies, Teaching Service Commission; and Kehinde Akintomide, Director of Industrial Promotion, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

In the same vein, the governor also approved the appointment of two principals-general and four headteachers-general to fill the vacant positions within the top echelon of the Teaching Service Commission and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and to further strengthen administrative processes in the education sector of the State.

“The new Principals-General are: i. Mr. Matthew Adeyinka OSILESI – Remo Division
ii. Mr. Yakubu Olorunyomi LAMIDI – Ijebu Division.

“The Headteachers-General include:

The Head of Service explained that the appointees were selected from among candidates who were earlier shortlisted, following a rigorous selection process and charged them to demonstrate utmost dedication, absolute devotion and selflessness in their new roles.

Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has expressed disappointment over the state’s inability to provide electricity from the Gas Turbine as he promised earlier in 2025.

New Telegraph recalls that the governor had assured all that the state was going to celebrate Christmas with power from the gas turbine.

He, however, urged patience on the ongoing installation of the state’s independent power project.

The 60-megawatt gas turbine project, whose installation commenced in October this year, was earlier scheduled to be completed by December but suffered some logistical delay.

He called on people of the state to have an open mind about the project, which he said now requires a new completion date due to unforeseen challenges.

‎Governor Diri, who undertook an on-the-spot-assessment of the project at Elebele in Ogbia Local Government Area on Wednesday, said like other Bayelsans, he was also disappointed that the December completion deadline could not be met.

He, however, stated that his reaction to the delay had been that of understanding rather than being angry, as had been noticed, particularly on social media.

The state’s helmsman implored the people to appreciate the work of the engineers, stressing that a minor mistake was capable of jeopardising the millions of dollars expended on the project.

‎Governor Diri gave a thumbs up to the technical partners, Jampur Group, and its team on ground, as well as the Managing Director of the Bayelsa Electricity Company Limited, Engr. Olice Kemenanabo, saying they were working around the clock to ensure the job was completed.

A statement on Wednesday by Daniel Alabrah, his Chief Press Secretary, reads: “You can see I have gone round the whole facility. It was based on the working agreement and information available at my disposal that I gave the December date.

“But as it is with every human endeavour, we must all have an open mind when it comes to issues, particularly technical matters like this.

The governor, however, hinted that the government was looking at inaugurating the project during its sixth anniversary in February.

The MD of the Bayelsa Electricity Company Limited, Kemenanabo, who also spoke, said the state was on the right track towards actualising the project and assured that the alignment of the entire system, including the gas generator and alternator, was on course.

He also stated that the remaining two turbines would be delivered to the project site in a few days.

‎Speaking on behalf of the Jampur Group, Mr Sherrif Abu-Anif said the company was in a good position to meet its own end of the bargain and appreciated the state government for playing its part very well.

As the nation welcomes the year 2026, the Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, has said there will be no room for complacency on the part of his administration, promising accelerated consolidation of the gains made in the past two and a half years.

Mbah also described 2026 as a year of quantum leap for the people of Enugu State, maintaining that “our optimism is not abstract, but grounded in the concrete work we have done.”

The governor gave the assurances in his New Year message to the people of Enugu State on Wednesday, urging optimism and unity on the part of the people of the state and the nation as a whole.

While recalling his administration’s successes in the revival of moribund assets, the transformation of the transport system as well as the water sector, security, road and tourism infrastructure, educational and agricultural sectors, and the surge of investment and visitors to Enugu, Mbah acknowledged that “it is far easier to rise than it is to remain standing.”

“That is why this year demands more of us than the years before. 2026 is not a victory lap. It is a humble continuation of a journey that is nowhere near finished.

“What we have begun is not fleeting – it must now be secured for generations. We have to build well, not quickly for applause, but carefully for posterity.

“And above all, we must resist complacency. Success can seduce us into comfort. Comfort slows our steps. And when steps slow, progress slips away,” he emphasised.

On specific projects and programmes to expect in the New Year, Mbah said, “In 2026, life in Enugu will change in ever more visible and practical ways.

“Every urban road across our cities will be paved and upgraded with proper drainage and walkways, with many also receiving new streetlights to improve safety.

“Projects like the 9th Mile 24/7 water scheme, the planned Ajali Scheme revamp, and Oji River will continue to push clean water directly into more homes across Enugu.

“All 260 Smart Schools will open fully, offering digital learning, science labs, renewable power and a free daily meal to more than 300,000 children.

“In every one of our 260 wards, a fully equipped Primary Healthcare Centre will open, staffed and powered to deliver real care when it is needed most.

“Enugu’s airport operations will expand, with plans to grow Enugu Air’s fleet to 20 aircraft this year, accelerating trade, tourism and investment.

“Strengthened security infrastructure, ongoing industrial revival efforts, growing support for small and medium enterprises, and expanded connectivity will ensure that more families feel economic opportunity through rising incomes, safer streets and a clearer path to a better life.”

The governor promised hell to criminals who still had the appetite to test his administration’s resolve to keep the state safe and secure.

“Let me be clear: no crime committed will go undetected and unresolved. We will track and prosecute everyone who has committed a crime. We will never drop our guard.

“We must protect what we have built, finish what we have started, and refuse complacency in any form.”

He reiterated his government’s commitment to inclusive development and called for the continued support of the citizenry, while also holding the government accountable.

“This year calls for focus and commitment. It calls for every one of us to stay engaged, to stay informed, to hold ourselves and our institutions to high standards.

“Our promise remains firm: we are still determined to leave no one out in the cold. Public funds will continue to be channelled solely into projects that uplift lives,” he said.

He wished Ndi Enugu and Nigerians a happy New Year, urging optimism and unity, insisting that “the strength of our state and nation comes from working together.”
