Tyson Fury breaks his silence on Anthony Joshua’s car crash – and appears to confirm his return from boxing retirement despite their £100m fight being thrown into doubt
Anthony Joshua’s long-time rival Tyson Fury has paid tribute to the two men tragically killed in a horror car crash in Nigeria.
Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, both integral members of Joshua’s team, lost their lives when the SUV they were travelling in with Joshua smashed into a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Makun yesterday.
Local police told Daily Mail Sport that Joshua escaped with only ‘minor’ injuries, but sources close to the fighter fear they could be more severe than publicised.
Former heavyweight champion Fury has now taken to social media to pay tribute to Ghami and Ayodele.
‘This is so sad,’ wrote the Gypsy King on Instagram. ‘May God give them a good bed in heaven.’
Fury’s tributes came only minutes after he teased his own return to the ring in 2026 – despite insisting he was retiring from the sport for good last January.
The 37-year-old posted a picture of himself alongside his sons Prince and Johnboy with the trio wearing shirts bearing the message: ‘I’m back. Fury. My legacy. Old School.’

A long-awaited bout between Joshua and Fury, the two elite British heavyweights of the past decade, had been mooted for 2026 following the former’s victorious return to the ring over Jake Paul.
But those hopes, Daily Mail Sport understand, now hang in the balance after video footage captured at the scene of the crash showed the boxer grimacing in pain as he was helped away from the wreckage.
Matchroom Boxing, Joshua’s management team,shared a tribute to Ghami and Ayodele on Monday night.
It read: ‘It is with the deepest and most profound sadness that we confirm, following a road traffic accident in Lagos, Nigeria earlier today, the death of Sina Ghami and Kevin ‘Lateef’ Ayodele.
‘Both were close friends and integral members of Anthony’s team.
‘We respectfully ask that space and privacy be given to the families at this time while they process this truly shocking and devastating news.’
Earlier on Monday night officials in Nigeria confirmed to the Daily Mail that Joshua was ‘awake and conscious and had spoken with his family’ after the 36-year-old had been pulled from the wreckage of the crash.
A spokesperson for the Ogun state government said: ‘Anthony Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos.
‘Following comprehensive clinical assessments, doctors have confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency medical intervention at this time. A full medical team has been assembled and will continue to monitor them closely.
‘Anthony Joshua is conscious and has been in communication with his family.
‘The Governments of Ogun and Lagos States are closely monitoring the situation and will ensure that the affected persons receive the best possible medical care. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident have also commenced.
‘We appreciate the concern shown by members of the public and kindly request privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family at this time.’

Michigan director recalls moment he told Sherrone Moore he was fired… causing meltdown that led to arrest
Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel says the decision to fire Sherrone Moore was an ‘easy’ one despite expressing sympathy over the turmoil in his personal life.
Married father-of-three Moore, 39, lost his job as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines due to an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a staffer before being arrested over an alleged assault in the space of a dramatic few hours earlier this month.
The disgraced football coach was charged with breaking and entering, home invasion and stalking after entering a woman’s apartment, confronting her and threatening to kill himself, before spending two nights in jail.
He was eventually granted a $25,000 bond and released. If convicted on all counts, Moore, who has pleaded not guilty, could face up to six years behind bars.
Michigan has already moved on after firing him, with the Wolverines unveiling Kyle Whittingham as their new head coach at the weekend.
And after hiring Whittingham from Utah, Manuel has opened up on the moment he parted company with Moore – which preceded his shocking arrest later that day.

‘Listen man, it’s hard,’ the Michigan director admitted, via Detroit Free Press. ‘It’s hard when you have a colleague that is going through something personally, professionally, in his family and [knowing the] people and impact that it has on so many staff, student-athletes and the Michigan community.
‘Personally, I’ve known him for seven or eight years, so it was difficult to see him, as a person, go through what he went through.
‘But professionally, it was an easy decision to make because of the expectations that we have for everyone on our side.’
After Moore’s firing and alleged assault, Michigan brought in an outside law firm to review both the situation involving their former football coach and the athletic department at large, which Manuel says was partly his idea.
‘There’s not much I can say. There’s an investigation continuing into coach Moore, there’s a cultural evaluation around the department and so we will we obviously know some facts,’ he explained.
‘There’s some things that are out there that I can’t comment on, that are untrue, and there may be some things that they find, but that’s why we do an investigation, and I’m very open to that. Wanted the cultural analysis to be done to help us get better.
‘I asked the President to help with a cultural analysis and have somebody come in. So yes, I am very supportive of that, because as a leader, I face reality. There are things that happen. I don’t step away from it. Never have, never will. So we need to get better, and that’s part of is getting somebody to come in and to assess.’

Police records show the alleged assault took place at the home of Moore’s executive assistant Paige Shiver, hours after Michigan had fired him over the ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a fellow member of staff – who is still yet to be officially named.
According to police dispatch audio obtained by Daily Mail, an unidentified 911 caller claimed he assaulted her on Wednesday, adding that he had a knife and had been stalking her ‘for months.’ A dispatcher was later heard saying that the suspect was described by his wife Kelli as ‘suicidal’ after losing his job earlier in the day.
Pittsfield, Michigan police and Washtenaw County prosecutors alleged the uninvited Moore was unarmed when he entered an unlocked door before allegedly grabbing two butter knives and a pair of scissors while threatening to harm himself.
‘I’m going to kill myself,’ he told the alleged victim, as quoted by assistant prosecutor Kati Rezmierski on Friday. ‘I’m going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You ruined my life.’
Rezmierski said Moore and the woman had been engaged in an ‘intimate relationship’ for a number of years. Magistrate Odetalla M. Odetalla forbid the court from identifying the alleged victim, but the 911 call that led to his arrest was made from an apartment belonging to Shiver.
The inaugural African Boxing Congress (ABC) held in Lagos at the weekend has elected Omonlei Imadu as the Vice President of the continental boxing body.
The election of Imadu who is also the vice president of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), was generally seen as the reaffirmation of Nigeria’s leading role in African Boxing.
The landmark event organised by the Nigeria Boxing Federation witnessed the participation of over 30 countries on the continent.
The congress which held in Lagos State, is a significant milestone towards strengthening governance, unity, and global competitiveness within African boxing.
Solomon Desmond Kargbo (Sierra Leone) was elected president, while Anta Gueye (Senegal) emerged as second vice president. Cyprien Tamo Tamo (Madagascar) will serve as Secretary General.
Other members of the board are: Alaeldin Alfaith (Sudan) Lamptey George (Ghana) Dirang Thipe – (Bostwana) and Awil Gele – (Somalia).
The congress also announced the organization of the first-ever African Boxing League to begin in 2026. The framework for the league was unveiled at a gala-night held at Providence Hotel in GRA Ikeja.
The newly elected president Solomon Kargbo said the board will work assiduously towards achieving the aims and objectives of the continental body in line with the framework of World Boxing.
“This congress is a significant milestone to change the trajectory of the squared ropes sports in the continent. We would implement several programs to support the respective national federations to grow the sports.
” We are creating a new trajectory for African boxers to dominate at the global stage, including the Olympics. These things are achievable with the board we have in place,” Kargbo added.
The vice president Omonlei Imadu said Africa will experience a significant advancement in the squared ropes sports with African Boxing now fully inaugurated.
” I make bold to say that the trajectory is about to change, Africa will experience an exponential growth in boxing like never before, and most importantly I am happy that my beloved nation Nigeria is now the centre of the decision making body in the continent,” Imadu stated.
As part of its resolutions, the Congress announced the establishment of African Boxing headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria.
Uganda head coach Paul Put has said his team’s failure to beat Tanzania and not the defeat to Nigeria’s Super Eagles cost his side qualification to the round of 16 of the AFCON 2025.
The Cranes needed to defeat the Super Eagles to stand a chance of making it to the first knockout round.
Put’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Tanzania in their second Group C fixture after a 3-1 loss in their opener.
Against Tanzania, the Cranes had a golden opportunity to win late in the game but missed a penalty kick.
That penalty miss proved costly as they now needed to defeat the Super Eagles to progress but unfortunately suffered a 3-1 defeat.

Paul Onuachu gave the Super Eagles a first half lead before Raphael Onyedika bagged a brace in the second half to seal the win.
Reflecting on his side’s exit, Put admitted that it was always going to be a tall order for his side to beat the Super Eagles to secure qualification.
“I think we shouldn’t have come looking for qualification facing Nigeria,” Put stated. “We had the opportunity against Tanzania to qualify for the round of 16, if we had won that game we wouldn’t have the problem of facing Nigeria.
“We were under pressure and you can’t blame this players because they don’t have the experience so they were under pressure.
“It’s always difficult facing Nigeria who has a very good team and I think we didn’t lose our qualification ticket to Nigeria, I think we lost our qualification ticket to Tanzania.”
Meanwhile, Tanzania booked their place in the round of 16 after finishing as one of the best third placed teams, and will face hosts Morocco.
The Taifas secured their place in the elimination round thanks to a 1-1 draw with Tunisia on Tuesday.

Man United 1-1 Wolves: Ruben Amorim reverts back to type as his depleted side drop points at home – and struggling visitors avoid equalling unwanted Premier League record
If Manchester United’s Boxing Day win over Newcastle here at Old Trafford was a bit of a Christmas turkey, then this was the leftovers.
Ruben Amorim’s side go into the New Year and the second half of the season in the top six but, again, he will take little satisfaction from this performance.
Wolves, on the other hand, can at least celebrate the end of an 11-match losing streak in the Premier League – not that a total of three points from the opening 19 games of the season augurs well for survival.
Derby, statistically the worst team in the history of the competition with 11 points, had seven at this stage of the season in 2007. Southampton, the second-worst, had six at the halfway point last season.
Another defeat here would have been their 26th of the calendar year, equalling an unwanted record held by Ipswich since 1994.
But Wolves dug deep after going behind to Joshua Zirkzee’s goal in the first half, and were the better team by the time Ladislav Krejci equalised before the break.

Rob Edwards’ side have impressed in single-goal defeats away to Liverpool and Arsenal in recent games, and this felt like another step in the right direction.
They grew in confidence against a United side team who beat them 4-1 at Molineux just three weeks ago but were desperately short of creativity in the absence of eight players including captain Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Mason Mount.
Having started with a back-four for the first time against Newcastle four days earlier, Amorim reverted to a back-three with Patrick Dorgu moving back to left wing-back after his match-winning stint as right winger.
The only change, brought about by Mount’s injury, saw Zirkzee return to the starting line-up, but a total of six academy kids on the bench showed just how much strain the loss of those eight senior players is having on Amorim’s squad.
Edwards made two changes of his own, bringing in Jackson Tchatchoua and Jhon Arias, with striker Jorgen Strand Larsen once again on the bench for more than an hour amid speculation over a move to West Ham in the January transfer window.
Wolves made a positive start – just as they had against United at Molineux earlier this month – but it was the home side who created the early chances. Jose Sa had to claw Luke Shaw’s corner from under his crossbar, and then Benjamin Sesko chased Dorgu’s pass into the channel before cutting inside Matt Doherty and rifling a low shot just wide of the far post.
But the lack of creativity was causing frustration among the home fans until they made the breakthrough in the 27th minute.
It said a great deal about the paucity of United’s attacking play that the catalyst for the goal was defender Ayden Heaven, impressing again after a man-of-the-match performance against Newcastle.
Ladislav Krejci equalised and that was enough to give Wolves their third point of the season
The big centre-back stopped Hwang Hee-chan in his tracks with a great interception tackle and set off towards the Wolves box. Heaven slipped the ball to Zirkzee whose flick came back to him off Krejci and so did a tame effort that probably wouldn’t have beaten Sa but for a crucial touch off the Czech defender’s chest as the ball changed direction and flew into the net.
United almost increased their lead when Dorgu – emboldened by his goal against Newcastle – took aim from the edge of the box and saw his effort deflected wide off Doherty’s heel for a corner. Shaw delivered from the right again and this time Sesko headed against the outside of the post.
Wolves had rocked United with an equaliser right on half-time at Molineux and they did so again here, even though it came as less of a surprise after a period in which Hwang fired wide, Tolu Arokodare got away from Heaven to head over from close-range and only an outstretched left boot from Senne Lammens prevented Hugo Bueno’s low shot from creeping in.
When Wolves won a corner in the 45th minute, Bueno delivered from the right and Zirkzee could only head the ball towards the back post where Krejci rose to guide a header wide of Lammens.
It was no more than the visitors deserved at the end of a half in which they had twice as many touches in the opposition box as United. No wonder Amorim looked deeply unimpressed, shaking his head as he made for the tunnel.
The United boss sent on Jack Fletcher for Zirkzee at the interval for his third appearance in a row, and United almost went ahead in bizarre circumstances in the 55th minute. Yerson Mosquera headed back towards his own goal but beat the stranded Sa who did very well to scramble back and claw the ball of the line.
Wolves went just as close at the other end when Lammens kept out Krejci’s shot and then scooped the ball away from Mosquera as he went for the tap-in.
Amorim went to his bench of young substitutes once again, sending on Bendito Mantato for his debut. It looked like Dorgu had struck for the second game in a row when he scored in an empty net after Sa had saved from Sesko in the 90th minute, but the Denmark international was offside.
So United go into the New Year in sixth place, but there was little about this performance to celebrate.

Manchester United 1-1 Wolves: Visitors end 11-match losing streak against disapapointing Red Devils
Wolves ended their 11-match Premier League losing streak and manager Rob Edwards grabbed his first point as manager as his side held a disappointing Manchester United, who were booed off at Old Trafford.
Without eight senior players due to a combination of injuries and international calls, United were far from their best but still managed to go in front thanks to Joshua Zirkzee’s deflected 27th-minute effort.
However, Wolves began to force the pace towards the end of the opening period and after United goalkeeper Senne Lammens had kept a Hugo Bueno effort out, Ladislav Krejci levelled with a header from eight yards after he was given far too much room at the far post.
Lammens denied Krejci a second after half-time, when he dived to his left to parry a low shot and then got the ball away from danger as Yerson Mosquera closed in.
Ironically, Mosquera came close for the home side when he headed the ball past Jose Sa and towards his own goal. Fortunately for the Colombian, Sa got back to retrieve the situation just before the ball bounced in.
Sa had already been at the centre of one unusual incident when he was penalised by referee Thomas Bramall for holding onto the ball longer than eight seconds. It was only the third time the new rule has been applied in the Premier League this season but the home side could make nothing of the corner that followed.
Jhon Arias came close to a winner for the visitors with a shot that deflected narrowly wide and Patrick Dorgu then thought he had scored for the hosts in the final minute but a lengthy video assistant referee check confirmed the offside decision against him was correct.
It was Wolves’ third draw – and point – of the season, and their first since 5 October, although does not do much for their survival chances as they are still 15 points from safety.
For United, it was another example of their many shortcomings and a result that prevented Ruben Amorim’s side ending 2025 in an unlikely fourth spot – they remain sixth.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has said the game against Uganda afforded him the chance to try other things with his team.
After securing their spot in the round of 16, the Super Eagles faced Uganda in their final Group C fixture.
Chelle made eight changes in his starting line-up from the game against Tunisia, with only Calvin Bassey, Bruno Onyemaechi and Victor Osimhen, who captained the side keeping their place.
The likes of Francis Uzoho, Ryan Alebiosu, Igoh Ogbu, Raphael Onyedika, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Paul Onuachu and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru started.
After 90 minutes the Super Eagles won 3-1 thanks to a brace from Onyedika and a solitary strike from Onuachu.
Speaking in his post-match presser, Chelle said:”Today it was a game to change and try to do another thing and in happy with the three goals but again we have to improve if we want to be ambitious.

Mystery as Australian cricket great Damien Martyn is rushed to hospital in serious condition: ‘He is in for the fight of his life’
Australian cricket great Damien Martyn has reportedly been rushed to hospital and remains in a ‘serious condition’ after falling ill on Boxing Day.
The Herald Sun reports that the 54-year-old, who lives in Brisbane, became ill after he went to lie down last Friday.
AFL legend Brad Hardie sent his ‘thoughts and prayers’ to Martyn and his family during his late-night radio broadcast on 6PR on Tuesday.
‘Damien Martyn, the champ from WA, fantastic batsman … unfortunately took ill on Boxing Day and is currently residing in a Queensland hospital and he is in for the fight of his life,’ Hardie said.
‘I’d like everybody to certainly have their best wishes and positive thoughts for Marto. God give him strength.
‘Let’s hope he can pull through because it’s really serious.’

The nature of Martyn’s illness has not been revealed.
It comes as Martyn had taken to X on Christmas Eve to share his excitement about Australia’s fourth Ashes Test at the MCG.
‘If the old brigade could play again, then this would be it,’ he wrote, adding a picture of the MCG.
‘Boxing Day test match. What a cauldron.’
As a top-order batsman, many of Martyn’s colleagues revered his brilliant skill and ability to score runs.
Martyn captained Australia at U19 level, before going on to make his Test debut in 1992.
During his career, Martyn, who played First Class cricket for Western Australia, scored 4,406 runs across 67 Test matches.
Martyn also enjoyed spells in England’s County Championship with Leicestershire and Yorkshire.
He was also drafted to play for the Rajasthan Royals during the 2010 IPL season.
Martyn notably shocked the cricket world by announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket in the middle of the 2006-07 Ashes at the age of 35.
The Western Australia star had been in the running to start in the third Test in Perth, but stated that it was his ‘time to move aside’.
After his career, he would enjoy several cameos in the media, featuring in a variety of television broadcasts and podcasts to offer up his views on cricket.

No fewer than seven countries have been eliminated from the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco following the conclusion of the latest round of group matches.
The countries knocked out of the competition are Uganda, Botswana, Zambia, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and Zimbabwe.
Uganda became the latest casualty on Tuesday night after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their final Group C encounter.
Uganda went into the game needing a win to keep their hopes alive, but were outclassed by a determined Nigerian side that dominated large periods of the match.
The Super Eagles, who had already built momentum in the group, took control of the contest and sealed a 3-1 victory to confirm their place in the knockout stage.
Following the defeat, the Cranes finished bottom of Group C with just one point, behind Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania, ending their AFCON campaign at the group stage.
Earlier reports had highlighted Nigeria’s sharp attacking display and improved defensive organisation against Uganda, as the Super Eagles combined experience and pace to overwhelm their East African opponents.
The victory underlined Nigeria’s growing confidence in the tournament and reinforced their status as one of the title contenders heading into the Round of 16.
Seven Teams Already Through
Meanwhile, seven countries have already secured qualification for the Round of 16 as the tournament gradually enters its knockout phase.
The teams that have booked their places so far are Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, Mali, Morocco, South Africa and Egypt.
With group-stage matches still ongoing, more teams are expected to confirm their qualification in the coming days as the race for continental glory intensifies in Morocco.

Nigeria could be without Ryan Alebiosu for the remainder of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, DAILY POST reports.
Alebiosu, who is representing Nigeria in a major tournament for the first time, sustained an injury in the Super Eagles’ 3-1 win over the Cranes of Uganda on Tuesday. He suffered a deep cut on his right leg in the first half.
The right-back made his debut for the Super Eagles in the game played at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.
The 22-year-old was in action for the entire duration of the match.
Forward Cyriel Dessers also has a thigh problem and could be ruled out for the rest of the competition.
Dessers is expected to undergo a scan on Wednesday.
Two of Anthony Joshua’s closest friends have been named as the individuals who died in a car crash, which left the two-time world heavyweight champion injured in Nigeria.
Joshua’s promoter, Matchroom Boxing, identified the victims as Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, both long-standing members of the boxer’s inner circle. The organisation confirmed the tragedy in an official statement.
The outpouring of tributes from across the boxing world — from rivals to champions — speaks to the profound respect and affection they commanded.
Sina and Latif, both long-time friends of Joshua, were killed after the Lexus SUV they were all travelling in smashed into a stationary truck shortly after 11:00 am on Monday on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Makun.
Joshua was seated in the rear of the vehicle when the collision occurred.
Sina Ghami was Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach for more than a decade.
He also co-founded Evolve Gym in London.
According to the gym’s website, Ghami is a certified sports and exercise rehabilitator who specialises in musculoskeletal injuries and corrective exercise.
Ghami had worked with athletes across several sports, including the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, and the Michigan State University football team.
He was a key presence in Joshua’s corner during several landmark bouts, most notably the historic 2017 victory over Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium — a defining moment in modern heavyweight boxing.
Latif Ayodele, widely known as Latz, was Joshua’s personal trainer.
Ayodele regularly posted photos with Joshua on his Instagram page and was seen with the boxer shortly before the accident.

Former Nigerian international Waidi Akanni has lauded the Super Eagles’ performance in their 3-1 win over Uganda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles took the lead in the 28th minute through Paul Onuachu before Raphael Onyedika netted two goals.
The Cranes did manage a consolation in the 75th minute when Rogers Mato, who made a fine diagonal run across the pitch, was found by Allan Okello and applied a chipped finish over the onrushing Francis Uzoho.
Reacting after the game, Akanni, who was a guest on Afrosports AFCON 2025 coverage, stated that he’s impressed with Nigeria’s performance against Uganda.

He also urged the team to maintain the winning form in the Round of 16.
“I think this match is good for the confidence of the players ahead of the round of 16. Winning the game will help boost the confidence of the team, and that is what the players have done.
“I pray they keep going into the round of 16, quarter finals, and semi-finals till the final stages. Basically, I don’t think those nine points matter when you play in the round of 16. Again, it all depends on our opponent in the round of 16.
“However, it’s a different occasion now that we have the likes of Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and others in top shape, and we can see the way they played in their last two matches.”

Raphael Onyedika claimed the Man of the Match award following the Super Eagles’ 3–1 victory over the Cranes of Uganda.
Onyedika, who made his maiden AFCON appearance in the match, scored a brace for the Super Eagles. He also formed an effective partnership with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in midfield.
The midfielder was in action for the full duration of the game.
Before the encounter, the 24-year-old had scored only once for the three-time African champions. That goal came in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in March 2024.
Onyedika has now made 19 appearances for the Super Eagles.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles finished the group stage campaign of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with maximum nine points to top Group C.
Opening goal from Paul Onuachu in the 28th minute plus a brace from Raphael Onyedika in the 62nd and 67th minutes ensured that Nigeria repaid a 47-year-old debt to the Ugandans that defeated Green Eagles at the 1978 edition hosted by Ghana in Accra.
What even made the victory sweet for Nigeria was that it was achieved with a largely second IX and coach Eric Chelle rested the bulk of his starting line up.

Nigeria dominated the first half and to Eagles’ credit, they showed ambitions to win this encounter even though they had already qualified for the knockout rounds of the tournament.
Moses Simon was lively on the left side of attack, while there were interesting duel between two big men – Calvin Bassey in the Nigerian defence and Uche Ikpeazu, whose father is Nigerian, in the attack of the Cranes of Uganda.
At the return from the first half break, Uganda’s experienced goalkeeper, Denis Onyango, who was injured in the first half, had to be substituted by second choice goalkeeper, Salim Magoola.

Three minutes later, Raphael Onyedika coolly collected Samuel Chukwueze’s lob to increase Nigeria’s tally to 2-0.
And in the 67th minuted, Onyedika scored his second and Eagles went up 3-0.
Rogers Mayo however pulled one back for Uganda in the 75th minute to give the Cranes a false sense of hope of a possible equaliser coming.
A flurry of changes of bringing in majorly defenders effectively sealed off Eagles backline, while the match dragged on with no more goals coming from either side.

New England Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs is facing charges of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery after an alleged incident on December 2, court documents show.
The exact allegations remain unclear. Diggs’ attorney, Michael DiStefano, made a virtual appearance at Dedham District Court on Tuesday to argue that the details of the police report should remain impounded.
Whatever occurred, DiStefano say his client has made a financial offer to settle the dispute with the victim, who remains unidentified publicly.
As first reported by Boston 25, the 32-year-old NFL star is scheduled to be arraigned on January 23 – days before the AFC Championship is scheduled to be played. The Patriots have already clinched a playoff berth entering the final week of the NFL season thanks to Sunday’s blowout win over the rival New York Jets.
That victory gave the Patriots their first AFC East crown since 2019 as Diggs hauled in his 80th reception of the season to qualify for a $500,000 bonus. He signed a three-year, $63.5 million deal with the team before the season.
Digg has denied the allegations to the team, as Patriots spokespeople revealed in a statement provided to the Daily Mail.

‘The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs,’ the statement began. ‘Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations.
‘We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.’
His status for Sunday’s season finale against the visiting Miami Dolphins remains unchanged, but the Patriots have already clinched a playoff berth, so there is a chance he could be rested.

The father of rapper Cardi B’s fourth child, Diggs was seen partying aboard a boat in a viral clip back in May, showing the former All-Pro handling a pink substance believed to be drugs. Meanwhile, Diggs and reality TV star Mulan Hernandez are in a legal battle after he sued her for allegedly assaulting him and attempting to extort millions of dollars from him.

Hernandez (real name: Mia Jones) fired back earlier this year, alleging Diggs’ lawsuit was an attempt to get ahead of the truth. In a statement given to TMZ, she claimed Diggs assaulted her, leading to a concussion.
‘On June 7th [of 2024] I was assaulted from behind by Stefon Diggs at our residence an incident that resulted in a concussion,’ she said in February of 2025.
‘This is clearly an attempt to try an get ahead of the truth that is to come,’ she continued. ‘I WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED NOR SILENCED.’
He has also taken criticism from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) over his bespoke furniture and lifestyle brand, which uses real animal fur.
‘Is Stefon Diggs the only person alive who doesn’t understand that, whether they’re killed for clothing or a hideous piece of wall décor, the agony is the same for the terrified coyotes whose limbs are mangled in steel-jaw traps—especially the mothers who know their babies will starve to death without them?’ read a statement from the group.
‘These family-oriented Song Dogs can suffer for days before the hunter returns to shoot or bludgeon them to death and peel the skin from their bodies, so PETA urges Diggs to stick to football and use faux fur for his next arts-and-crafts project.’
