CAN Sends Important Message to Tinubu’s Government

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has cautioned that millions of Nigerians are still struggling with hunger, insecurity, and unemployment despite ongoing reforms under Tinubu’s government.

It stressed that true progress should be reflected not just in economic statistics but in the daily lives of citizens.

In a statement signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, CAN congratulated the nation on the milestone but urged the government to focus on food security, protection of lives, and opportunities for young people.

“True progress must be measured not only by statistics but by the food on every table, the security of every community, and the opportunities available to every child,” Archbishop Okoh said.

CAN also raised concerns about insecurity, lamenting the devastation caused by terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and communal violence. It called for stronger collaboration between security agencies, communities, and faith-based organisations to restore peace.

The association further described Nigerian youth as the nation’s greatest asset but warned against persistent brain drain, urging increased investment in education, innovation, and youth empowerment.

“Nigeria must create an enabling environment that encourages its citizens, especially the youth, to stay, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to national development,” the statement added.

CAN appealed to leaders and citizens to rise above ethnic, religious, and political divides, insisting that justice, equity, and good governance are essential for national progress.

“As we celebrate this anniversary, let us renew our commitment to justice, equity, and good governance. Let us embrace hard work, support local production, and show love to one another as one people under God,” Archbishop Okoh said.

“The dawn of a new Nigeria is possible. With God’s help and our shared determination, we shall build a nation where peace, prosperity, and unity flourish for generations to come,” the statement concluded.
