The Enugu State Police Command has announced that from Thursday, October 2 it will commence enforcement of tinted glass permits and clamp down on the unauthorized use of sirens, revolving lights, and unregistered vehicles across the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
“The exercise, in line with existing laws and directives, will be carried out professionally across the State and will apply to all vehicles with tinted glasses, whether factory or non-factory fitted,” Ndukwe said.
Ndukwe added that motorists yet to register their vehicles with tinted glasses are advised to complete the process at http://possap.gov.ng, after which they should proceed to the Command’s State Intelligence Department (SID), at
the State Command Headquarters, GRA, Enugu, for physical verification.
He also advised motorists who do not intend to obtain the Tinted Glass Permit to remove such tints or replace the factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones, as legally required.
The policeman also announced that the state command will also clamp down on the use of unauthorized sirens, revolving lights, Police SPY plates, unallocated official number plates, and unregistered vehicles.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations to oversee the enforcement exercise.
He warned the direct supervisory officers of field operatives to ensure strict compliance with the enforcement ethical guidelines and perform their duties with utmost professionalism, devoid of harassment or extortion of motorists.
He stressed that any officer found culpable will be duly sanctioned, while the concerned supervisory officer will be held vicariously liable.
