The PGMOL have reportedly agreed that Nathan Collins should have been sent off in Brentford vs Man United.
PGMOL chief Howard Webb has reportedly admitted to a refereeing error in Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford and apologised to the Red Devils.
What happened
As Pulse Sports reported, Nathan Collins received only a yellow card after pulling back Bryan Mbeumo inside the penalty area, despite being the last defender.
Referee Craig Pawson’s on-field decision was reviewed and upheld by VAR, allowing Brentford to continue with eleven players.
Bruno Fernandes subsequently missed the penalty before Mathias Jensen’s late goal for the Bees cemented the victory. After the game, the decision to keep Collins on the pitch was criticised.
According to Ruben Amorim, the referee explained that Collins indeed fouled Mbuemo, but the foul was not deemed worthy of a sending off because the Cameroonian was not in control of the ball.
PGMOL’s apology
That explanation has been criticised, and according to the Daily Mail, Howard Webb, the head of the PGMOL, has admitted the VAR-supported decision was an error.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils bounced back in the following game, beating Sunderland 2-0, thanks to an excellent debut from Senne Lammens. They face Liverpool at Anfield after the international break.
