Kelechi Iheanacho was on the scoresheet as Celtic secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Motherwell in a thrilling Scottish Premiership encounter.

Iheanacho opened the scoring in the 28th minute from the spot, but Motherwell responded through Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, who equalised in the 41st minute.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers turned to his bench, and substitute Benjamin Nygren made an immediate impact, levelling the match in the 69th minute.

Just when it seemed the points would be shared, Daizen Maeda stepped up with a stoppage-time winner to send the home crowd into celebration.

Iheanacho played for 78 minute and he now has three goals and one assist in six appearances across all competitions for Celtic.

Against Motherwell, he completed eight passes including two into the final third, and created three chances in an impressive attacking display.

Despite the win, manager Brendan Rodgers admitted his side is still not performing at their best.

“We’re nowhere near our level, I can be clear on that,” the coach said.

However, he praised his players’ spirit and determination to secure the result.

“Clearly it’s a very important win for us. The players showed an unbelievable amount of heart. We showed a strong mentality and competitive grit.

“Even though we’re not at our levels, we still had to win.”

Celtic now sit second in the Scottish Premiership with 17 points from seven matches, two behind leaders Hearts.

The upcoming international break offers Iheanacho a chance to reset before Celtic return to action against Dundee on 19 October.
