Newly elected president of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), Adesoji Tayo, has pledged to make youth development and talent discovery the cornerstone of his administration, while also raising the standard of coaching and officiating across the country.

Tayo, who currently serves as Chairman of the Oyo State Table Tennis Association, was unanimously elected president after his closest rival, Ahmed Khamisu, stepped down ahead of the presidential vote.

Following his withdrawal, Ahmed was subsequently named the new vice president of the federation.

He succeeds Engr. Ishaku Tikon, who led the NTTF for eight years, overseeing notable progress at both national and continental levels.

In his acceptance speech, Tayo outlined his vision to elevate Nigerian table tennis to global prominence, speaking on the importance of structure, teamwork, and excellence at every level of the sport.

“It’s about doing things right. It’s about putting the name of Nigeria on the map of the world, not just Africa,” he said.

“And that’s what we’re going to do in the next four years.”

Tayo expressed confidence in the newly constituted leadership team, promising a more vibrant and competitive table tennis landscape.

“As you can see, I have a formidable team that I’ll be working with. And you’ll be hearing about table tennis. We’ll hear more about table tennis, I can assure you.”

The new president also commented on the need to raise standards across the board, from gameplay to administration and officiating.

“From the game, from the administration, or even from the umpiring, everything will be top-notch, world-class,” Tayo declared.

His administration is expected to focus on:

  • Youth development and early talent identification nationwide

  • Upgrading coaching standards through training programs

  • Positioning Nigeria competitively on the global stage

  • Building strong administrative and technical structures to sustain growth
