Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Orji Kalu, has warned former President, Goodluck Jonathan, against contesting the 2027 election, stating that he is constitutionally banned.

Naija News reports that the former Governor of Abia State made this known on Wednesday, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Kalu expressed confidence about President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

According to the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Tinubu has improved the nation’s economy.

Kalu added that Jonathan, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, cannot defeat Tinubu in the next general elections.

Meanwhile, a lawyer, Johnmary Chukwukasi Jideobi, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking an order to permanently bar Jonathan from contesting in the 2027 presidential election or any future election.

The plaintiff is also asking the court to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or publishing Jonathan’s name as a presidential candidate under any political party.

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) was also joined in the suit as a third defendant.

Naija News reports that in the originating summons marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2102/2025, Jideobi is asking the court to issue a perpetual injunction stopping Jonathan from presenting himself for nomination under any political platform for the 2027 polls.
