World Record holder Tobi Amusan will be gunning for a record fourth Diamond League title as the 2026 season calendar is released.
Nigerian hurdling queen Tobi Amusan is set to begin her eighth Wanda Diamond League campaign in Doha, as the Qatari capital has been announced as the host for the 2026 season opener on May 8.
The 28-year-old will be looking to recapture the magic of her 2022 season, which also started in Doha. That year, she achieved a historic run, winning Nigeria’s first-ever world title in the 100m hurdles, setting a new world record, defending her Commonwealth Games title, and securing her second consecutive Diamond League trophy.
Amusan demonstrated a return to top form in 2025 by winning a silver medal at the World Championships in Tokyo, a strong comeback after a challenging 2024 season where she did not make the Olympic final.

The Nigerian contingent will also be closely watched for the potential return of long jumper Ese Brume, whose absence from the Diamond League circuit in 2024 and 2025 was keenly felt. Her participation in the 2026 elite field remains a key point of interest.
Additionally, rising stars Udodi Onwuzurike and Nathaniel Ezekiel are expected to build on their impressive Diamond League debuts from 2025. All three athletes reached the finals in their respective events this season.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, the reigning African shot put champion, will also be aiming for a spot in the final after failing to qualify in 2025.
Hopes are also high for emerging talents like World 100m finalist Kanyinsola Ajayi and Olympic 400m finalist Samuel Ogazi, who could make their Diamond League debuts in the upcoming season.
The 2026 Wanda Diamond League series will feature 14 meetings across four continents, concluding with a two-day final in Brussels on September 4-5. Following the Doha opener, the tour will head to Shanghai and Xiamen in China before its African stop in Rabat on May 31. The European leg will kick off in Rome, followed by events in Stockholm, Oslo, Paris, Monaco, London, Lausanne, Silesia, and Zurich.
With no Olympic Games or World Championships on the 2026 calendar, the Diamond Trophy will be the most prestigious global prize in athletics for the year.
