Ibadan convention mere Christmas carol, gathering of friends – Party Chieftain
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Okechukwu Osohua, has described as a mere Christmas carol and gathering of friends the November convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Osohua made this statement on Tuesday when he appeared in an interview on ‘Sunrise Daily’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST.
“As far as I’m concerned, it was just a gathering of friends, and I can even call it a Christmas Carol because it was not known to law; there was no convention,” he said.
DAILY POST reports that the PDP held the convention between November 15 and 16 in the South-Western state.
Recall that at the event, the group, backed by Governor Seyi Makinde, expelled the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike; former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, and Samuel Anyanwu, among others.
The group cited anti-party activities as the basis for the decision, further dividing the PDP.
The party later issued a certificate of expulsion to Wike and the expelled members.
However, Osohua said the expulsion was driven by selfish interest. According to him, the expulsion certificate is novel and unknown to the law.

GCC Zaria Class Of 1979 Reunites After 46 Years As Alumni Promise Support To Alma Mater
Government Commercial College, GCC, Zaria, Class of 1979 has reunited after 46 years of graduation.
The reunion which took place in Abuja featured lecture, health talks, Annual General Meeting, AGM, dinner among other varieties.
Delivering the Reunion Lecture, the Guest Speaker from Political Science Department, University of Abuja, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Abba called for unity of purpose among the Alumni.
Prof. Sadiq Abba whose lecture centered on benefits and challenges of Alumni highlighted the importance of Alumni Association and stressed the need for Class ’79 of Government Commercial College, Zaria to effectively harness the potentials of all Alumni towards improving their lots and that of their Alma Mater.
According to him, the benefits of Alumni is both vertical and horizontal which include building of infrastructures in their Alma Mater through institutional support while they also have various responsibilities to themselves as individual and their communities as well as the nation in general.
He therefore called on Alumni Associations to always compliment the efforts of Government in developing the nation’s education sector.
In his words “This they can do by institutionalizing scholarship for the less privileged, construction of classrooms, provision of books and instructional materials, institutionalize the best teacher of the year, promote productivity and professionalism, construction of school clinic among other projects that can fast track the growth of education in the country”.
While congratulating them for being alive to reunite after 46 years of graduation , Prof. Sadiq Abba emphasized the need for them to come up with functional and effective leaders that would pilot the affairs of its Alumni.
An Alumnus of the College and Dean, Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, Oyo State, Dr. Mrs Folashade Abiola expressed joy for the reunion after 46 years of graduation g from Government Commercial College, Zaria saying they are determined to work together towards ensuring the wellbeing of one another.
Dr. Mrs Folashade Abiola also expressed their readiness to contribute to the educational growth of their Alma Mater.
On his part, Mr John Ibrahim who is also an Alumnus of the College was elated for seeing his school mates after over four decades from Government Commercial College, Zaria.
Mr John Ibrahim who is a Retired Staff of Ministry of Finance, Kaduna promised to contribute his quota towards realizing the objectives of the reunion.
The reunion programme of activities which lasted for three days in the Federal Capital Territory saw Alumni winding and dinning as well as sharing ideas on the way forward as a family.

In her video, which she posted on TikTok, the lady, @bekee047 said it was risky to have built such a high tank stand close to a house.
The video showed the tank stand almost has the same height as the three storey building and there were eight tanks on it.

Man shares video of bad tank stand
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a Nigerian man shared a video showing the tank stanchion installed in a compound where he went to work.

The state Minister for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has formally received Sadiq Abubakar Ciroma, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, into the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The state APC chairman, Tukur Danfulani, presented Ciroma to Matawalle on Friday, welcoming him and his supporters into the party.
Speaking at the event, Matawalle described Ciroma as a politician with vision and sound judgment, saying his move to the APC would benefit the people of Zamfara.
He assured Ciroma and his supporters of equal opportunities within the party.
Ciroma explained that his resignation from the PDP was due to what he perceived as the APC’s more inclusive leadership and performance in the state.
He accused the PDP-led government under Governor Dauda Lawal of neglecting local communities and focusing primarily on revenue collection.
Reacting to the defection, the chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Council, Manir Haidara Kaura, alleged that Ciroma had worked against the PDP even before a recent state assembly by-election.
Haidara accused him of leaking confidential party strategies and collaborating with APC stakeholders, raising doubts about his loyalty.
The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged the Federal Government to put an end to what he described as fiscal rascality, particularly the pattern of uncontrolled and unexplained borrowing that does not contribute to productive sectors of the economy.
Obi, in a post on his verified X handle on Friday, criticised the government’s plan to secure about ₦20 trillion in new loans to finance the 2026 budget.
According to him, the borrowing plan is alarming at a time when debt servicing is projected to consume nearly half of the nation’s revenue, and when the country’s borrowing requirement has risen by more than 72 percent.
He questioned the rationale behind planning fresh multi-trillion-naira loans for 2026 when the 2024 budget is still being implemented and the 2025 budget appears untouched.
Obi wrote, “Where is the revenue from 2025? How can we be discussing trillions in new borrowing for 2026 when we are still implementing the 2024 budget? This suggests, very clearly, that the 2025 budget is still untouched and unimplemented.
“So, where are all the revenues that accrued in 2025, even when we were told that revenue targets had been surpassed since August?”
He warned that continuous borrowing for consumption rather than production would endanger the country’s future.
“We cannot keep mortgaging the future of our children through thoughtless borrowing. Nations do not develop by consuming more than they produce.
“They develop by producing, exporting, creating value, and building strong institutions that ensure accountability,” he said.
Obi added that the government cannot boast of increased revenue while simultaneously pushing borrowing to historic levels.
“Governance must be built on transparency, not propaganda. We cannot build a new Nigeria on the foundation of misleading figures, rising debts, shrinking production, and continuous hardship. Our nation must move forward,” he added.

The Lagos political community has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic death of Dr. Oluwafemi Olawale Adefulire, the only son of former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.
Dr. Adefulire, a UK-based medical doctor, reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday, December 10, 2025, after undergoing an undisclosed surgical procedure in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Oke Afa, Lagos, has denied claims that he attempted to extort Power Minister Bayo Adelabu.
His reaction follows a report alleging that the cleric demanded ₦150 million for “spiritual intercession” to support Adelabu’s governorship ambition.
Ayodele counters DSS petition claims
TheCable had revealed that Adelabu petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS), accusing Ayodele of blackmail.
The minister alleged that the cleric requested large sums of money and costly spiritual items as part of a supposed arrangement ahead of the 2027 Oyo governorship race.
Minister details alleged demands
Adelabu, who has contested the Oyo governorship twice, claimed that Ayodele asked him to provide 24 APC flags for prayers.
He also alleged that the cleric demanded 1,000 saxophones or trumpets, costing between ₦50 million and ₦130 million depending on grade.
The minister said his refusal to meet the demands led to prophecies declaring he would never become governor.
Cleric insists he never sought money
Through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Ayodele insisted he never attempted to extort ₦150 million from Adelabu.
He explained that he only mentioned the cost of the instruments after Adelabu requested the estimate.
Ayodele said he advised Adelabu to verify the market prices by sending someone to confirm the cost of the trumpets.
“He was desperate for governorship”
Ayodele said Adelabu reached out to him through emissaries, expressing willingness to offer anything to secure the governorship seat.
According to the cleric, he merely advised Adelabu to buy the instruments as an act of seeking divine mercy, not as a payment to his church.
He stressed that he neither demanded prayer fees nor asked the minister for money.
Prophecies not tied to refusal
Ayodele maintained that he had long stated that Adelabu’s path to the Oyo governorship would require divine grace.
He added that his prophecies were not influenced by the minister’s failure to purchase the instruments.
The Christ Hospital Ministry (CHM) has raised concerns over the rapid increase of mental health illness in the country stating that it needs to be urgently addressed.
The group state this its mental health seminar held in Ikeja, Lagos with the themed, ‘Hope and Reassurance,” and attended by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), policy makers and secondary schools students.
According to CHM, bad economy, consumption of hard drugs and peer pressure are the factors that contributed to the increase of cases of mental illnesses in the country especially among young ones and has therefore, cautioned the youths against drug abuse.
Speaking at the event, President of CHM Worldwide, Rev. Samuel Ajibola, underscored the importance of the seminar stating that the “rise in the consumption of hard drugs especially among youths and children was alarming and that necessary urgent addressing was needed to curb the situation.”
Ajibola urged youths and children to ignore peer pressure and “avoid situations that would lead them to drug consumption,” urging that they stick to good habits.
Also speaking, Vice President, CHM Africa, Joyce Akinola, lamented the rise of mental illness staring that it was a global issue.
She stated that poor economy was a factor that contributed to mental illness saying that youths turned to drugs to escape pressure.
She said: “If we look into the present situation economically, then you know why these young ones are under pressure. The economy is very bad, the money is not following anymore, and parents are under pressure.
“When the children ask for funds, what the parents give freely before, they question it. Once they ask the children what they want to use the money for, the children withdraw from asking and instead of coming out and to tell the parents what exactly they need, they begin to look for alternate approaches and in the process bring themselves under so much pressure that they look for substances to calm themselves.”
Akinola said that the ministry planned to create awareness through campaigns inorder to sensitise communities on the dangers of drugs to health.
On her part, a Consultant Psychiatrist and Community Advocate, Grace Ijarogbe emphasised the urgency to address mental health challenges stating that the response towards the crises is slow.
She urged policy makers to integrate subjects on mental health in schools inorder to educate young ones on dangers of substances to the mental wellbeing.
“Good mental health is not just the absence of mental illness. When we say someone has good mental health, it means that they are able to think logically, you are able to use your body properly, you not hurtful to anyone, you can respond appropriately to everything going on around you.
“When children have been made to take good decisions, then they are mentally well. They don’t need drugs for assistance,” she said.
Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has criticised the Federal Government’s plan to borrow N17.89 trillion in 2026.
The former governor of Anambra State described the move as fiscally reckless and unjustifiable amid “unprecedented hardship, insecurity, and unemployment.”
His comments followed reports that the government intends to increase new borrowing from N10.42 trillion in 2025 to N17.89 trillion in 2026, amounting to 72 per cent rise in fresh loans.
According to the Abridged Budget Call Circular issued by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, revenue projections remain significantly lower than expenditure needs, widening the deficit and deepening concerns over debt sustainability.
Debt servicing is projected to consume nearly half of national revenue in 2026.
Reacting in a statement posted on X on Friday, Obi said the borrowing plan raises urgent questions about transparency and fiscal responsibility.
“Today, Nigerians woke up again to the troubling news that the Federal Government is planning to borrow about ₦20 trillion in new loans to finance the 2026 budget,” he wrote.
“This is at a time when debt servicing alone is projected to gulp nearly half of our national revenue.”
Obi questioned the status of government earnings for the current fiscal year.
“Where is the revenue from 2025? How can we be discussing trillions in new borrowing for 2026 when we are still implementing the 2024 budget?” he said, suggesting that the 2025 budget “is still untouched and unimplemented.”
He accused the government of engaging in “fiscal rascality,” arguing that rising loans are not being channelled into productive sectors.
“We cannot keep mortgaging the future of our children through thoughtless borrowing. Nations do not develop by consuming more than they produce. They develop by producing, exporting, and creating value,” he said.
The ex-governor insisted that governance must prioritise transparency and accountability.
“We cannot tell Nigerians that revenue is increasing while simultaneously increasing borrowing to ridiculous historic levels. Our nation must move forward,” he maintained.
