Nobody Is Thinking of Leaving Nigeria — Elder Statesman Tanko Yakasai — Akelicious
Elder statesman Tanko Yakasai says Nigerians across all regions remain strongly committed to the unity of the country, insisting that no group is currently considering secession.
Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, Yakasai said the idea of breaking up Nigeria has long been abandoned by those who once championed it.
He noted that while opinions may differ on national issues, there is a shared resolve to maintain Nigeria as one indivisible nation. According to him, the country has moved past the era when separatist agitations threatened its stability.
“Some will think this way and others will think otherwise,” he said. “But by and large, what I’m happy about is that all the people in Nigeria today are committed to Nigeria as a single country. There’s no part of Nigeria or section of the Nigerian people who are now thinking of dividing the country or breaking away.”
Yakasai added that groups which once attempted to leave have since reconsidered and embraced unity. “An attempt was made. Those who made the attempt later realized it was a f++lish idea and they already gave it up. They reconciled themselves with the reality of the situation,” he said.
He stressed that Nigerians now coexist peacefully, regardless of past divisions. “Since then we’ve been living together, both those who wanted Nigeria to remain one and those who wanted to leave Nigeria, as brothers and sisters. Nobody is thinking of leaving Nigeria.”
His remarks come amid ongoing national debates on restructuring, governance, and inclusion, but Yakasai maintained that these issues have not shaken Nigerians’ commitment to the country’s unity.

“Is This a Joke?”- Former Ondo First Lady Betty Akeredolu Criticises Senate Ambassadorial Screening Process
- Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has criticised the Nigerian Senate for its “take a bow and go” screening of female ambassadorial nominees, describing the process as unfair and unserious.
- In a post on X, the former Ondo State First Lady said the approach demarkets women, prevents nominees from properly presenting themselves, and falls short of the detailed and serious screenings expected for such important positions.

Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the former First Lady of Ondo State, has criticized the Nigerian Senate’s practice of giving female ambassadorial nominees a “take a bow and go” screening.
Posting on X.com, Dr. Akeredolu expressed her strong disapproval of the process, asking, “Is this a joke?”. She argued that the method is “demarketing the female nominees” and is not fair.
She stated that the male Committee members were “unnecessarily intrusive” and did not allow the nominees to properly present themselves to Nigerians.
The former First Lady concluded that the entire screening process looked “unserious, utterly childish”. She stressed that ambassadorial screening is a “serious business” and noted that she has watched how detailed screenings are conducted in countries like the US.
She ended her post by adding the hashtag #womensupportingwomen.

In other news…… The Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide (LFC), Dr. David Olaniyi Oyedepo, has firmly declared that he will not venture into politics, even for a massive financial incentive.
Speaking during the impartation service at the church’s annual convocation, Shiloh 2025, the Bishop emphasized that partisan politics is simply “off my calling”. He stated, “If you give me $1 billion to join politics, I won’t, because it’s off my course”.
Oyedepo used the opportunity to urge his congregation to focus on their divine assignments. He stressed that believers should concentrate on their area of calling, where they are destined to “rule their world” and be part of God’s end-time army.
Referencing national crises, the Bishop reminded the church of his 2015 prophecy: “In 2015, I warned the church that trouble was coming. Didn’t trouble come?”.
He concluded by stressing that the world is currently “groaning in darkness,” but it is waiting for the manifestation of the children of God. According to him, the army of God is about to emerge to offer solutions to national crises, following the biblical examples of Joseph and Daniel.

Northern Groups Demand Probe of Minister Matawalle over Alleged Links with Bandits
Northern pressure groups has demanded a full-scale investigation into serious allegations linking the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, to bandit networks operating in Zamfara State and parts of the North-West.
The call was made by the Coalition of Northern Groups, which said the claims raise deep concerns about national security and the integrity of Nigeria’s fight against banditry.
The group insisted that the matter has moved beyond politics and now touches the core of public safety and trust in government.
In a statement issued on Friday, the coalition said it was disturbed by what it described as “grave and disturbing revelations” contained in alleged confessional statements linked to Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to Matawalle when he served as governor of Zamfara State.
The group said the alleged confession has triggered fresh questions about the role of political actors in the sustained violence plaguing northern communities.
It argued that the accusations, if left unresolved, could weaken confidence in ongoing security operations across the region.
The statement was signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi. He said the allegations strike at the foundation of Nigeria’s security architecture and demand urgent legislative attention.
According to the coalition, Kamarawa allegedly made claims involving financial transfers to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.
The alleged claims also include the procurement of several Hilux vehicles for criminal groups and the provision of logistics such as housing, cattle and other assets.
These actions were said to have been facilitated by political figures in Zamfara and neighbouring states.
The group warned that the alleged pattern of engagement suggests possible collaboration between top political actors and violent groups terrorising the North-West.
It described the situation as “state-enabled sabotage” if the allegations are proven to be true.
“These claims, if proven, point to a deeply entrenched web of political alliances with terror networks, capable of undermining years of military operations and exposing vulnerable communities to mass violence,” the coalition said.
The group criticised what it described as rushed denials and political responses aimed at damage control. It said such reactions only fuel suspicion among citizens who have suffered years of attacks, displacement and killings.
Charanchi said Nigeria cannot claim seriousness in its war against insecurity while allegations of collaboration within government circles remain unresolved.
He warned that shielding suspected collaborators erodes public confidence and weakens national resolve.
The coalition also faulted Matawalle’s reported move to pursue legal action against Sheikh Murtala Asada, a cleric known for his strong stance against banditry. It said the action appeared to be an attempt to silence dissent rather than a genuine effort to address the allegations.
“Resorting to litigation in this context appears less like the defence of reputation and more like a calculated attempt to muzzle a critical voice at a time when transparency is urgently needed,” Charanchi said.
While expressing support for Sheikh Asada, the group urged him to make public any evidence in his possession to assist authorities in uncovering the truth. It said the moment demands courage from individuals with relevant information.
“This is the moment for all truth-tellers to speak without fear. Silencing those who raise alarms only strengthens impunity and weakens the fight against insecurity,” the statement added.
The coalition called for an immediate, independent and non-partisan investigation. It said the probe should be led by the National Assembly and supported by security and intelligence agencies, as well as the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
It said investigators must examine financial records, procurement processes, communication trails and official decisions that may have enabled contact between public office holders and criminal networks.
The group also demanded full protection for whistle-blowers and witnesses. It insisted that anyone found culpable, regardless of rank or political standing, must be prosecuted according to the law.
According to the coalition, northern Nigeria has endured years of violence marked by killings, kidnappings and economic ruin.
It warned that failure to act decisively on the allegations would amount to a betrayal of affected communities.
“No rank or title should confer immunity from justice,” the group said. “Nigeria cannot fight insecurity with one hand while the other shields those who profit from chaos.”

Tinubu should consider military action to free troops – Senator Arise – Tribune Online
… backs involvement in Benin Republic
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ekiti state, Senator Ayodele Arise, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to put on the table, military invasion of Burkina Faso to secure Nigerian soldiers in captivity in the West African state.
Senator Arise made the suggestion on Saturday while speaking on an Arise TV monitored programme.
His stance was on the heels of disclosure by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, that the Nigerian soldiers who were on an aircraft that made a forced landing in Burkina Faso are still in the West African country.
Tuggar, who spoke with journalists on Thursday, said talks are ongoing with the leader of the military junta in Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, to resolve the matter.
He said, “We are discussing how we can resolve this delicate matter as quickly as possible, and we’re talking. So it’s something that is being handled diplomatically.”
Checks revealed that Burkina Faso, Mali and Togo, under the grip of military juntas, have since formed the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), a breakaway West African regional group from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
At a press briefing on Monday, Assimi Goita, the Mali junta leader, described the landing as an “unfriendly act carried out in defiance of international law”.
The AES further declared that it authorised its member states to neutralise any aircraft violating its airspace.
Senator Arise, who acknowledged that the Nigerian military is fully engaged at home from amidst insurgency and banditry, however, insisted that military action against Burkina Faso should not be foreclosed. He recalled that Israel once took such an action against Uganda in the historic Entebbe Raid in 1976.
He said, “I think we should move and do something. As a matter of fact, once they are aware that we want to do that, I am sure that the man who is President there will have a rethink because they are our neighbours. Yes, we should be friendly with our neighbours, but at the same time we should let them know that they can’t be messing with our country.”
The Senator who represented Ekiti North in the Senate also expressed his support for the recent military invasion of the Benin Republic to quell a military coup.
He dismissed the insinuation that the action of President Tinubu prior to notification of the National Assembly was hasty and a breach of the Constitution.
The APC chieftain noted that the step taken by President Tinubu was in order, as democracy in the West African state could have been truncated if the present administration did not take immediate action to avert a scenario of having a military dictator as our next-door neighbour.
Asked to comment on Senate adoption of bow and go for screening of ambassadorial nominees, described as shoddy by most Nigerians, Senator Arise who did not fault the method adopted by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs however submitted that in subsequent screening, the Parliament should cultivate interrogation of nominees as it would afford them the opportunity of knowing the quality of individuals being put forward for sensitive national assignments by the Executive arm.
He said, “There are two ways to look at that. It is either the President and the security agencies have done a good job of due diligence of the candidates, and the Senators have read their profiles, their CVs, achievements and contributions to national development.
“They might look at it and say, okay, what do we really want to ask from these people?” But I will be opposed to that because we keep on learning every day.
“There are people that have come to the Senate in the past, and there are questions to ask from them and they were able to express themselves and volunteered information about themselves that many people in the Senate probably didn’t know.
“It is a learning process because the fact that you are a Senator doesn’t mean that you know everything. So, the opportunity for engagement, for information, for people to know their professions, educating the Senators at large have been lost and that’s the more reason why they shouldn’t jettison the idea of people coming in and actually show their onions because the Senate screening isn’t really an examination hall, but just for people to tell us their level of competence and the Senate itself will be able to determine, should we just clear this man or refer him to the Committee of the Whole. So, there is no yes or no answer to the fact that if it’s a dereliction of duty.
“As I said, that’s the method that they have chosen to use. But many of us will prefer that the Senate ask questions. Let the nominees justify that nomination from Mr. President because he himself can’t know every one of them, he is going to rely on security reports and the reference from those that work around him. So that opportunity will be there for people to speak up and learn more about personalities that are going to different countries.”

Security operatives captured in viral video extorting young people in Obowo have been arrested — Akelicious
Security authorities have arrested all Joint Task Force (JTF) personnel captured in a viral video linked to alleged extortion and misconduct along the Obowo axis of Imo State. The officers, who were part of a joint security patrol in the area, are currently in detention while investigations continue.
According to an official update from Imo police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, once the investigation is concluded, the affected personnel will be handed over to their respective security agencies for appropriate disciplinary action in line with established procedures.
The arrests followed widespread public outrage after a video surfaced online showing what appeared to be uniformed officers harassing and extorting civilians at 7 and a Half Amanze Junction, Obowo. The footage was shared by a man who accused the operatives of operating like criminals while disguised as law enforcement officers.
In his account, the whistleblower detailed multiple incidents allegedly captured in the videos. He claimed that officers were seen stopping young men, forcing them to hand over their phones and checking private content, including banking applications. In another clip, an officer was allegedly filmed inside a Hilux vehicle while confiscating a traveller’s laptop during a roadside check. A separate recording reportedly captured an officer asking a colleague to confirm money allegedly extorted from a victim.
Describing the situation, the whistleblower said:
“Some of the footage from 7 and half Amanze Junction, Obowo, Imo State, where criminals disguising as officers operate. An officer in the back of a van with several young boys standing. He’s going through their phones one by one, even opening banking apps. That is criminal and illegal. An officer inside a Hilux seized a traveler’s laptop while checking papers. What legal right does any officer have to stop a traveler and confiscate a personal laptop? An officer asking the one inside the van to confirm the money he extorted from a traveler. In his exact words: ‘You don confirm the money?’”

Man Claims EFCC Demanded Foreign Currency for Bail, Alleges They Took Perfumes, Watches, PS Pad During Raid
- A Nigerian man has accused EFCC operatives of demanding bail payments in dollars instead of naira, citing his brother’s ongoing detention as evidence.
- He also alleged that EFCC officials raided his apartment in his absence and stole personal items, including perfumes, watches, power banks, and a PlayStation pad, raising concerns about misconduct by the agency.

A Nigerian man has taken to social media to allege misconduct by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), claiming the agency now demands bail payments in foreign currency instead of Naira.
The man stated that his claim is based on a personal experience involving his brother, who is currently detained and dealing with the anti-graft agency. He shared his concern over what he described as a shift away from Nigeria’s local currency, questioning why the country would officially operate using dollars instead of naira.
The man quoted his experience, saying, “I want you to be aware that EFCC do not collect bail in Naira again. This one no be say person tell me; na wetin my brother dey face. I don’t know when Nigeria started operating with Dollars, instead of our own local currency,”.
In addition to the bail demand, the man alleged that EFCC operatives carried out a raid on his apartment while he was absent and stole several personal items. He claimed they took items including perfumes, power banks, wristwatches, drinks, and even a PlayStation (PS) pad. He added that more items would have been taken if they had been found during the operation.
He specifically questioned the theft of personal hygiene products, stating, “EFCC raided my apartment and made away with my perfume, my power banks, watches… Tell me what EFCC is doing with my perfume. Even PS pad they stole it…”.

‘Bandits threatening to kill me if I dont marry their leader – Plateau widow cries out
A young widow whose husband was one of 40 people killed by terrorists in the Mushere community of Bokkos local government area of Plateau State in an attack in August, has cried out following threats by the killers to kill her and her three children if she refuses to marry one of the leaders.
The woman who gave her name simply as Nanbam narrated her ordeal to the global NGO, “Equipping the Persecuted” on Friday, saying that since the bandits killed her husband, they have made life difficult for her as they keep calling her to accept the marriage proposal from their leader or they will kill her and her children.
“My name is Nanbam and I am a widow with three children,” she said in a voice laden with fear.
“My husband was killed along with 39 other people when the bandits invaded our village in August. They surrounded the village and killed our people mercilessly. In my husband’s case, they cut open his body and removed his heart before throwing him into a pond.”
Nanbam stated that since the murder of her husband, the terrorists have not given her any breathing space as they call her almost every day, threatening to kill her and her children if she fails to marry their leader.
“They call me every day, using different numbers and have been threatening to kill me and my children if I keep refusing to marry their boss and convert to Islam since I am still a young woman.”
“In fact, the very day they killed my husband, they used his number to call me to say that their leader wants to marry me. I was shocked at what they said after killing him.
“I thought they were joking and I told them that over my dead body will I marry someone who killed my husband and the father of my children.”
She added that she had to relocate to her hometown in Mangu, hoping that the bandits would let her be, but the calls and threats have not stopped.
“I relocated to my village in Mangu, where I have been managing life with my children, but they keep calling and threatening me. My family said I should change my SIM card, which I did, and for a while, the calls stopped.
“I was surprised when a call came into my phone last week, and the person said they know where I am and if I still prove stubborn and refuse to marry their leader, they will come to the village and kill not only me but my children and other family members.
“Right now, my life is in danger and I don’t know where to run to where they will not trace me. I am still mourning my late husband and trying to care for my children all alone, but these people will not let me have peace.
“I have reported the issue to the police but they said there is nothing they can do as the people who call use different numbers and they can’t be traced. The police even asked me to bring money for them to track the numbers, but I told them I didn’t have money, and they lost interest in the case. I don’t know what to do now or where to turn to,” Nanbam cried.
