FCT will continue to build houses for judges, Tinubu supporting to strengthen Judiciary – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will continue to strengthen the judiciary by providing better facilities, secure accommodation, and improved working conditions for judicial officers across Abuja.
Wike made this known in his goodwill message at the Special Court Session marking the start of the 2025/2026 Legal Year of the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
He explained that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has made fresh budgetary provisions to build more residential houses for FCT High Court judges to ease accommodation challenges and ensure every judicial officer has a comfortable place to live.
“Providing comfortable and secure accommodation allows judges to focus entirely on the timely and efficient administration of justice, free from the distractions of inadequate living conditions,” he said.
The Minister noted that the FCTA has already taken major steps to support the judiciary. These include the formal handover of the Certificate of Occupancy for the Supreme Court’s land and the commencement of full perimeter fencing around the complex.
Wike said the move was meant to protect the nation’s highest court from encroachment and security threats.
He described it as a swift, long-awaited intervention that restores confidence in the system, adding that such confidence trickles down to each arm of the judiciary.
Wike also listed several other interventions being carried out by the FCTA under the President’s direction.
They include the construction of secure and befitting residential quarters for Heads of Courts, the ongoing development of a new Magistrate Court Complex in Jabi to reduce pressure on existing courts, and the construction of staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School.
Others are the design and construction of the Court of Appeal Abuja Division Complex and new residences for justices of the National Industrial Court, Federal High Court Abuja Division, and other key judicial bodies.
He stressed that all these projects are targeted at strengthening the justice system.
“Well-equipped court facilities, chambers, and support infrastructure ensure that judicial work is conducted in a professional, safe, and conducive environment,” he said.
Looking ahead to the new Legal Year, Wike said the FCTA is determined to build on ongoing reforms.
“We will aggressively push for the timely completion of the new residential quarters for Heads of Courts and the Jabi Magistrate Court Complex to ensure prompt utilization. “Furthermore, we have made budgetary provisions to construct additional residential houses for FCT High Court Judges to mitigate housing shortages and ensure all judicial officers are appropriately accommodated.
“We will continue to collaborate with the various FCT-based judiciaries (including the Court of Appeal) to support the digitization of court proceedings and registries to improve efficiency, reduce manual processes, and accelerate the dispensation of justice.
“Let me state that Justice must never be compromised under any circumstances, for it is the bedrock of our democracy and the safeguard of public trust. It is the responsibility of all stakeholders, judges, legal practitioners, government agencies, and citizens alike to work collaboratively to strengthen and improve our judicial system.
“I am confident that the commencement of this 2025/2026 Legal Year will herald a period of unprecedented success, wisdom, and efficiency for the Court of Appeal,” he said.
Rivers State University Professor of Public Law, Ritchard Wokocha, has described recent political developments in the state as a potential opportunity for peace and unity.
He made the remarks in an interview on Channels TV Sunrise Daily, as monitored by DAILY POST.
Professor Wokocha noted that while political unity in the state has been somewhat “frozen,” it is not completely absent.
“It resembles more of an alliance and we cannot rule out the participation of key figures, including the federal minister,” he explained.
He added that recent moves indicate that certain political actors and their supporters have decided to align themselves with the President by joining his party.
Wokocha suggested that when other government members make similar moves, it is likely they will begin expressing themselves in similar terms.
“This development signifies a real opportunity for peace and unity in Rivers State,” he said.
“Currently, the various segments of the political scene, which have previously been sources of drama, are not aligned under one side and now show allegiance to one leader, the President. We should expect less negative drama than in the past.”
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a robbery suspect allegedly linked to the brutal murder of the late Labour Party (LP) member of the Anambra House of Assembly, Honourable Justice Azuka.
Naija News reports that Azuka, who represented Onitsha 1 North Constituency, was kidnapped on December 24, 2024, on his way home for Christmas, and his decomposing body was tragically discovered on February 6, 2025, near the Second Niger Bridge.
The suspect, identified only as a 26-year-old male, was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, during a major offensive operation in the Iyowa Odekpe area of Ogbaru Local Government Area on December 8.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that the suspect was heavily injured during a “fierce confrontation” with the police.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being the leader of several criminal gangs operating across Anambra and neighboring states. Crucially, he “revealed his involvement in the abduction and subsequent murder of Azuka” on December 24, 2024.
Operatives recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and eleven live ammunition rounds during the operation.
The PPRO highlighted the hardened nature of the criminal, noting that the suspect has a large tattoo on his body with the inscriptions “No Forgiveness” and “No Mercy,” a disturbing reminder of his criminal mindset.
Ikenga stated that the arrest represents a significant breakthrough in the war against violent crime in the state and will assist in further investigations to dismantle criminal syndicates.
This is the second time in recent years a sitting Anambra lawmaker has been abducted and killed, following the murder of Okey Okoye in 2022.

The incumbent Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has emerged as the Accord Party candidate for the Osun 2026 Gubernatorial election.
The primary was held in Osogbo, the state capital, on Wednesday, under tight security presence.
This comes barely 16 hours after Governor Adeleke officially joined the party at the Banquet Hall of the Osun State Government House, Oke-Fia, Osogbo.
According to the poll official who announced the results, Adeleke polled 145 votes out of the 150 valid accredited.

Remi Tinubu posts cryptic message after backlash over impolite gesture toward Osun governor
Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, has responded to the latest criticism for impolitely instructing Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State to stop singing before delivering his speech at the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The event, where Mrs Tinubu was installed by the Ooni as Yeye Asiwaju, invoking her husband’s Asiwaju traditional title, was held in Ile-Ife on Sunday.
In her post shared on her Facebook page early Tuesday, Mrs Tinubu, who appeared unremorseful about her action, framed the backlash from a wide cross-section of Nigerians as weaving controversy out of what she generically dubbed “minor missteps”.
“Those entrusted with leadership understand their duties and how to steer the affairs of society. More often, it is the followers and critics who scrutinise every step, amplify minor missteps, and turn them into needless controversy. Ọṣun lè tèǹtẹ̀,” she stated.
The message came after a video capturing the controversial scene from the event went viral on social media.
The video showed the first lady walking up to Governor Adeleke, about to deliver his speech, on the podium and magisterially asking him to stop singing, while giving him five minutes to deliver his speech.
But after a momentary stop of his worship song, apparently out of courtesy, the governor continued singing as the first lady made her way back to her seat.
Just before reaching her seat, Mrs Tinubu pivoted, returning to the governor to hammer home her instruction with a subtle threat to take the microphone if he continued with his song.
In the encounter which went on in Yoruba, the governor, in an unquestioning surrender, tried to make light of the situation. “They have asked me to stop observing the protocol,” he said, while Mrs Tinubu returned to her seat. The governor then proceeded with his speech.
The incident drew widespread attention online, with many Nigerians accusing her of embarrassing the governor, while others argued the incident had been misinterpreted.
Mrs Tinubu did not directly reference the viral clip in her Tuesday’s post, but her remarks were widely viewed as a response to the backlash over the exchange.
Reactions
Reacting to the controversial encounter, Facebook user, Akintunde Babatunde, called out the First Lady to apologise publicly.
“You know I am not a fan of many Nigerian politicians, and I have often argued that the Governor of Osun State needs to read the room better and carry himself more consistently in a truly gubernatorial manner. That said, what happened here is distasteful to watch. This was an event in Yorubaland, a culture that prides itself on omoluabi values.
“Beyond that, the governor was the host of the event. Even if he were not, there is something called basic human decency in how we deal with people. Sadly, I have come to realize that this is a principle many Nigerians no longer live by.
“The ‘do you know who I am’ mentality has eaten very deep, exposing how classless and entitled many have become. To see this level of disrespect shown to a sitting state governor on live television is deeply troubling. Regardless of political differences, he deserves a public apology,” he added.
Evans Ifeanyi wrote that if the governor had sung “On Your Mandate, We Shall Stand,” she likely would not have noticed, accusing her of being too power-drunk.
Ali Onuabuchi imagined a scenario in which President Tinubu was corrected by a woman while speaking abroad. “Imagine that Tinubu goes to another country and starts chewing his words as usual and a woman asks him to go straight to his point,” he said.
Another Facebook user said, “With due respect ma has president BAT never dance on stage while making his presentations?”
Birthday Greetings
An hour before her cryptic post, Mrs Tinubu had congratulated Titilola Adeleke, wife of the Osun state governor, Ademola Adeleke, on her 60th birthday. She said she was joining the governor, her children and family, and other well-wishers to mark the milestone.
She praised Mrs Adeleke’s efforts in supporting residents of Osun State through the Renewed Hope Initiative and acknowledged the impact of her work.
“I pray this special day is filled with joy, love and cherished moments. May you celebrate many more years in divine health, peace, joy and happiness. Happy 60th birthday, Your Excellency. Mrs. Titilola Adeleke,” the post read.

However, the birthday post, which attracted over 1,000 comments, drew criticism from many users who faulted the first lady for not apologising to Governor Adeleke. Amid the backlash, some users praised the Adeleke family for their maturity and composure despite the public embarrassment.
Calls and messages sent to the known number of the Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, went unanswered.
The governor or the Osun State Government has not issued a public statement on the development.
Nigeria and Thailand have pledged to elevate their bilateral relations to a strategic level, with cooperation spanning politics, economy, and culture. He expressed appreciation for the cordial Nigeria-Thailand relations and emphasised Nigeria’s desire to elevate the partnership to a strategic level across political, economic, and cultural spheres.
Both sides acknowledged past high-level visits and agreed to sustain momentum through reciprocal exchanges. The Minister noted that Nigeria welcomed Thailand’s outreach to Africa under the Thailand-Africa Initiative (TAI) and proposed joint projects aligned with Nigeria’s priorities.
The Minister encouraged Thailand to foster ASEAN-ECOWAS collaboration, with the long-term vision of an ASEAN-ECOWAS Summit. The HMFA highlighted Nigeria’s crude oil exports and Thailand’s rice and machinery exports, proposing diversification through agro-processing and energy ventures.
Opportunities for defence industry collaboration, knowledge transfer, and investment in agriculture, ICT, manufacturing, and renewable energy were underscored, with Nigeria offering incentives and access to its large consumer market. Ambassador Tuggar commended Thailand’s scholarships and training support, requesting expansion for Nigerian students and professionals.
The ongoing Sustainable Agricultural Technology Development Project was praised, with proposals to scale up and deepen joint research in sustainable farming. Both countries reaffirmed their BRICS partnership and discussed reciprocal support within its frameworks.
Nigeria stressed cooperation against transnational crime, including drugs and human trafficking, and proposed intelligence-sharing and joint training. Regional issues were addressed, with Nigeria sharing perspectives on the Sahel, Myanmar, and Thailand-Cambodia border stability.
Nigeria urged expedited conclusion of pending bilateral agreements in trade, investment, agriculture, education, and cultural exchange, with a view to establishing a Joint or Bi-National Commission. Consular cooperation was emphasized, including protection of Nigerian nationals, streamlined visa processes, and reciprocal facilitation for Thai citizens.
Nigeria also proposed stronger collaboration between TICA and Nigerian agencies, including pilot projects in rural development and SME empowerment. The Honourable Minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with Thailand and extended an invitation for reciprocal visits.
He emphasised that Nigeria regards Thailand as a strategic partner in Asia and looks forward to a mutually beneficial relationship.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has emerged the governorship candidate of the Accord Party for next year’s governorship election.
The declaration took place at the Osun State Accord Party governorship primary on Wednesday.
The Osun State party chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, also revealed that Governor Adeleke is the party’s sole candidate, adding that about 150 delegates would partake in the primary.
The race for the Osun 2026 APC governorship ticket has taken a new direction as seven aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have withdrawn from the primary.
Their decision followed a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, where party unity and the need for a single front ahead of the election were the major focus.
At the end of the engagement, the aspirants agreed to support Bola Oyebamiji as the consensus candidate for the forthcoming primary.
The move is designed to reduce internal tension and streamline the party’s preparations ahead of the 2026 governorship polls.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, was called at the instance of President Tinubu.
However, one of the key aspirants, Iyiola Omisore, was absent.
His boycott did not go unnoticed, especially after his recent reaction to his disqualification from the primary, which he described as “a joke.” His absence has sparked talks about unresolved grievances within the party.
Those who stepped down include former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, and Mulikat Abiola Jimoh.
Party insiders say the decision was reached after appeals from senior stakeholders who emphasised the need to avoid a divided primary.
