Northern, Southern Nigerian Youths Unite to Sign Peace Accord Ahead of 2027
Youths from Northern and Southern Nigeria have come together in a rare show of unity, signing a peace accord aimed at strengthening national cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The agreement, reached in Kaduna, signals a joint resolve by young Nigerians to reject ethnic and religious divisions and to play a more coordinated role in the country’s political and economic future.
The gathering, which brought youths from across the North, South-East, South-South and South-West under one roof, took place at the historic Arewa House in Kaduna.
It was organised by the National Youth Alliance (NYA) and ended with the signing of a peace pact titled “The Birthing of a New Nigeria.”
Participants committed themselves to peaceful engagement, unity of purpose and collective action as Nigeria moves closer to another election cycle.
The accord comes at a time when tensions often rise along regional and religious lines as elections approach.
Over the years, Nigerian youths have frequently been mobilised as foot soldiers in political battles, with long-standing grievances such as unemployment, insecurity and poverty making them vulnerable to manipulation.
Speaking at the event, Vice-Chairman of the NYA (North), Abubakar Mohammed-General, criticised what he described as decades of exploitation of young people by political elites.
He said youths had been deliberately divided through misinformation and false narratives, turning them against one another instead of allowing them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“For decades, politicians and elites have been using us to gain power and political relevance. They divided us along religious and ethnic lines. So much fake news and misinformation were dished out so that we would continue to see ourselves as sworn enemies,” General said.
On his part, Vice-Chairman of the NYA (South), Meshack Onyeche, stressed that the unity of Nigeria remains non-negotiable.
He said young people across the country had agreed to rise above divisive politics and reject attempts to pitch one region against another.
“Nigeria can never be divided. Nigeria is our country. Nobody can divide us,” Onyeche declared.
He added that youths have suffered the most from political instability and economic decline, noting that many have been used to serve narrow interests that do not improve their lives or communities.
Earlier, the Convener of the National Youth Alliance, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, reflected on the journey of the group. He explained that the alliance initially attempted to register as a political party but was turned down by the Independent National Electoral Commission at the time.
“Instead of being defeated, we continued our programmes and eventually metamorphosed into a movement,” Abbas said.
He accused political leaders of consistently misleading young Nigerians, arguing that many in positions of authority prioritise personal and family interests over the collective good of the country.
“The reality today is that our leaders have been misleading the youth for a very long time. They are only concerned about their families,” he said.
The Kaduna meeting highlighted growing efforts by youth groups to promote dialogue and national unity amid worsening insecurity, economic hardship and concerns about the future of Nigeria’s democracy.
Many youth leaders believe that building cross-regional cooperation is key to preventing violence and divisive rhetoric in the run-up to the 2027 polls.
Since its emergence as a movement, the National Youth Alliance has focused on advocacy, peacebuilding and political awareness, positioning itself as a bridge between young people in the North and South.
The peace accord signed in Kaduna reflects a broader determination among youths to speak with one voice and resist being used to fuel conflict during election periods.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his administration will continue to honour former President, Muhammadu Buhari by sustaining his legacies of leadership, discipline and integrity.
The President made this pledge on Monday in Abuja at the State House Conference Centre during the unveiling and public presentation of the book From Soldier to Statesman : The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, written by Dr Charles Omole.
According to President Tinubu, in a statement by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the book gives Nigerians a chance to learn from Buhari’s life and leadership, adding that the best way to honour him is to keep his legacies alive.
“This book reinforces the public memory. It outlines achievements and flaws, as all honest histories should. It should motivate future leaders to learn lessons rather than repeat slogans,” Tinubu said.
He added that Buhari’s legacy becomes more meaningful when those who succeed him choose to build on what he started.
“That is my duty, and I pledge that today,” the President stated.
President Tinubu also reflected on his long political relationship with the late former President, describing Buhari as a brother, friend and political partner. He recalled how they worked together to build a strong political coalition that changed Nigeria’s political history.
“Together, we built a broad coalition, campaigned across the country, and proved that Nigeria could chart a new course,” Tinubu said.
He noted that the coalition achieved a historic victory in 2015 by defeating an incumbent president and went on to become “the fastest-growing political party in Africa today.”
He stressed that working across differences is a strength, not a weakness. “Nation-building demands that we compete passionately and govern responsibly. President Buhari understood that the contest ends when the oath begins,” he said, urging Nigerians to keep politics honourable and governance focused on results.
The President also praised the author, Dr Charles Omole, for producing the 600-page biography.
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, commended President Tinubu for standing by the Buhari family and the state, describing Buhari as a symbol of “discipline, prudence, patriotism and purposeful leadership.”
Dr Omole said the book chronicles Buhari’s life from birth to death, explaining that he interviewed people who witnessed both moments.
Several former service chiefs and security heads who served under Buhari testified to his discipline and integrity. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), described Buhari as “a man of honour, a man of character, a man of integrity and a man of principle.”
Former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, said Buhari was “not merely a Commander-in-Chief issuing orders but a statesman who understood that military powers must always serve democratic governance.”
Former DSS Director-General, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, said, “President Buhari will never rig an election,” while former Naval Chief, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (Rtd), noted that national security improved under Buhari through strong leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Hadiza Nana Buhari thanked President Tinubu for his support, especially for completing the National Armed Forces PTSD Centre Project in Abuja.
She urged Nigerians to learn from her father’s legacy of patience and integrity.
The event was attended by President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, several state governors, top government officials, traditional rulers, and members of the Buhari family.
A suspected leader of the Vikings Confraternity in Edo State has reportedly been killed in a violent power tussle.
Naija News learnt that the cultist was shot dead during a clash allegedly orchestrated by rival factional members on Monday, December 15, 2025, along the Benin–Agbor Road.
A source who spoke to Daily Post described the incident as a bloody overthrow, stressing that the group had been plunged into crisis following its last national election, during which a candidate was allegedly imposed.
“The attackers may have intended to remove the leader without bloodshed, but once gunshots are fired, anything can happen,” he said.

In other news, the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has criticised the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo over what it described as a continued campaign against the immediate past governor, Godwin Obaseki, and major investments in Edo South.
Naija News reports that the party accused the current government of focusing its energy on discrediting projects carried out under the Obaseki administration, rather than presenting clear development plans.
It said the latest target of this approach is the Radisson Hotel project in Benin City.
In a statement signed by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, the party said comments attributed to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, were misleading and intended to confuse the public.
According to the PDP, since assuming office, the Okpebholo administration has consistently moved against legacy projects that were designed to boost the state’s economy.
The party listed several projects it said had come under attack, including the Museum of West African Art, the 95-megawatt Ossiomo Power Project, Saro Farms and its ethanol investment in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, the Edo Printing Press at the Nigerian Observer premises, and Presco Plc.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has expressed delight as he welcomed his main challenger in the November 16, 2024, governorship election, Agboola Ajayi to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Aiyedatiwa, who began his statewide tour, said on Monday that politicians do not return after elections. He said he embarked on the tour to appreciate the citizens for their support for his administration.
The tour started with the four Akoko Local Government Areas of Akoko North-West, Akoko North-East, Akoko South-East, and Akoko South-West, where the Governor thanked residents for their support this year and galvanised backing for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
The governor commenced the tour in Oke-Agbe, headquarters of Akoko North-West Local Government Area, where traditional rulers, community leaders, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and residents received him in large numbers.
At the Secretariat of Akoko North-West Local Government, the governor commissioned five utility vehicles for traditional rulers, as well as a bus for the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).
Addressing the gathering, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to God for preserving lives and stressed that the visit was not for a political campaign but to appreciate the people for their loyalty and support.
He said he promised party leaders during the electioneering campaign that his visits would not be occasional, that he would visit from time to time, inspect projects, and ensure the fulfillment of promises.
He said that the visit was also to convey the party’s decision at both national and state levels that its candidate for 2027 is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Governor commended the people for standing with the APC, noting that the party recorded victories in all local government areas of the state and now has full control of the State House of Assembly.
Aiyedatiwa attributed the APC’s growing strength and infrastructural development across the country to the reforms of President Tinubu, saying the impact of these reforms had attracted governors from other political parties to the APC.
He also hinted that his opponent from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2024 gubernatorial election, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, had met with him and decided to join the APC at a date to be announced later.
Calling for unity within the party, Governor Aiyedatiwa urged APC members and various party groups to work together and avoid internal crises, stressing that tolerance and cooperation were necessary to achieve the party’s objectives ahead of 2027.
At Akoko North-East Local Government Area, the Governor again thanked residents for their prayers and continued support.
He said the reforms of President Tinubu had opened up opportunities for economic growth in Ondo State, citing the ongoing dualisation of the Ikare–Akungba road as evidence of development in the Akoko axis.
While noting that political interests were natural, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured party members that all disagreements would be resolved through dialogue.
According to him “There will be no fight at the party. We will resolve all issues through dialogue, and everyone will be satisfied.”
The Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, who also spoke in Oka Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government, appreciated residents and party members for turning out in large numbers to welcome the governor’s train.
The thank-you tour also took the governor to Isua in Akoko South-East Local Government Area, where he paid homage to residents and expressed appreciation to party leaders who accompanied him.
Palliatives were distributed to each of the local government areas visited as part of the governor’s gesture of appreciation to party members.

President Bola Tinubu on Monday, urged Nigerians to embrace the discipline, integrity and service ethos of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing them as pillars of enduring nation-building.
Mr Tinubu spoke at the launch of the book, “From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari,” held at the State House, Abuja.
“The measure of a leader is not the offices he held, but what persists when the sirens fall silent.
“President Muhammadu Buhari left behind a reputation for integrity, a spartan lifestyle, and the belief that public office is a trust and not a windfall,” he said.
He described Mr Buhari as a leader defined by quiet strength, personal discipline and the belief that public office is a trust, not an avenue to amass wealth
Mr Tinubu extended condolences to Buhari’s family, including his widow, Aisha Buhari, noting that the former leader’s name would continue to inspire generations.
Shared political vision
The president recalled their shared political journey, including the 2015 election that produced Nigeria’s first defeat of an incumbent president.
“Together, we built a broad coalition, campaigned across the country, and proved that Nigeria could chart a new course.
“Our movement united diverse interests and achieved a historic victory in 2015 by unseating an incumbent president, thus reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape,” he added.
Mr Tinubu said the book presents an honest account of Buhari’s achievements and shortcomings, urging future leaders to draw lessons rather than slogans.
He identified humility, security, long-term vision and social justice as core pillars of Buhari’s legacy.
“A Alegacy is given greater meaning when those who follow choose to continue what has been started. That is my duty.
“President Buhari loved this country consistently, morning after morning, decision after decision, staying true to the oath he took.
“That is why even those who disagreed with him often acknowledged his honesty”.
He stressed that Mr Buhari consistently demonstrated love for Nigeria and was widely respected for his personal honesty, even by critics.
“Cooperation across differences is not weakness; it is wisdom,” the president said.
Mr Tinubu urged Nigerians to keep politics honourable and governance focused on results.
He prayed for Allah’s mercy for the late former president and comfort for his family.
The Author of the Book, Charles Omole, described the book as the most comprehensive account of the life and legacy of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said that the 600-page book addressed several complex questions about his journey and leadership.
Former service chiefs and senior officials who served under Mr Buhari paid tributes at the event.
Hadiza Buhari, daughter of the former president, who spoke on behalf of the family thanked Mr Tinubu and Nigerians for their support and prayers.

She said that although the life of the late president was not perfect, his legacy should challenge the next generation to build systems strong enough to translate good intentions into lasting outcomes.

Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has held a symbolic sendoff ceremony in Abuja to mark the end of the tenure of its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Philip Mshelbila, after more than four years at the helm of the company.
The ceremony, which took place on Friday, was attended by members of the NLNG Board of Directors, executives of shareholder companies, dignitaries from Nigeria’s public sector and the energy industry, members of the company’s management team, and representatives of various staff groups.
Following the approval of the NLNG Board of Directors, Engr. Adeleye Falade has been appointed as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He is expected to assume office in April 2026. Falade will join NLNG from Brunei LNG, where he currently serves as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
Mshelbila is scheduled to formally exit the company on 31 December 2025 to assume a new international role as Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Doha, Qatar.
Speaking at the event, NLNG’s Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Olakunle Osobu, described Mshelbila as a distinguished and accomplished professional with expertise spanning medicine, environmental health, strategic business leadership, and global gas diplomacy.
Osobu noted that Mshelbila took over leadership at a particularly challenging period for the company, marked by the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, widespread flooding that disrupted gas pipelines, vandalism, supplier force majeure declarations, and global energy market disruptions triggered by the Russia–Ukraine war. Despite these challenges, he said NLNG remained focused on sustainability, diversification, and safety under Mshelbila’s leadership.
He highlighted a major milestone achieved during Mshelbila’s tenure—the expansion of NLNG’s feed-gas supply base beyond its shareholder joint-venture structure. In August 2025, NLNG signed long-term Gas Supply Agreements with six third-party gas suppliers, committing an estimated 1,290 million standard cubic feet per day of feed gas to the company, a move described as historic and strategic.
Osobu added that Mshelbila championed innovation, emissions reduction, and environmental stewardship, while also redefining NLNG’s business model through a transformation programme aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability and value creation.
Also speaking at the ceremony, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Mrs. Sophia Horsfall, praised Mshelbila’s leadership style and vision.
She described his tenure as one marked by selflessness, humility, and clarity of purpose, noting that he inspired excellence while positioning the company on a sustainable growth path.
In his response, Mshelbila expressed appreciation to NLNG’s shareholders, Board, staff, and industry partners for their support throughout his tenure. He commended the company’s strong culture of innovation and excellence, noting that these values would guide him in his new role at the GECF.
As Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, Mshelbila is expected to strengthen dialogue between gas-producing and gas-consuming nations and promote natural gas as a reliable and sustainable global energy source.

The lady, identified by the handle @GinikaOfAfrica on X, disclosed that the encounter happened months later while she was engaged in household chores with music playing in the background.
She normally preferred upbeat playlists to maintain her energy, but on this particular day, a message from Apostle Joshua Selman unexpectedly played.
She felt irritated and resistant at first, but didn’t change it because she wanted to complete her tasks first.
Surprisingly, while carrying out the tasks, she found herself overwhelmed by the message.
The experience left her emotionally broken, and she fell to the floor, offering deep prayers to God and seeking assistance from the Holy Spirit.

According to the X user @olakunle_omoba, the man identified as a TikTok user sent the lady, Lisha, 400,000 naira to obtain her number.
Aftermath, he supported her business with a donation of 1 million naira.
In the now-viral tweet, it was revealed that he sent an estimated amount of 3 million naira to the lady, yet she still refused to be in a ‘talking stage’.
Meanwhile, the man’s sister has started calling out the lady on TikTok, while the tweet has garnered over 400,000 views and the comment section is flooded with reactions from X users.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ondo State chapter, and the All Progressives Congress, the interceptioAPC) on Monday engaged in a war of words over the thank-you tour embarked upon by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa across the state.
According to the PDP, Aiyedatiwa’s decision to arrange the tour after two years as substantive governor reveals that he is not taking governance seriously.
Aiyedatiwa had on Monday commenced a statewide tour of local government areas to appreciate grassroots supporters and to galvanise backing for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Taking a swipe at the governor, the opposition party, in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Wande Ajayi, described the move as a charade.
Ajayi, who emphasised that governance under the APC in the state has been reduced to optics, handouts and tokenism, stressed that the governor ought to be commissioning completed projects instead, but there is nothing to show for his two years in office.
The PDP further insisted that the tour indicates a government that has lost direction and exhibits misplaced priorities.
“Across the length and breadth of the state, public schools are collapsing, healthcare facilities are in a state of ruin, roads have become death traps, and civil servants and pensioners continue to suffer under harsh economic realities.”
However, APC, responding to the PDP’s criticism of the governor’s thank-you tour, maintained that Aiyedatiwa’s decision to personally visit communities across the state reflects humility and accessibility.
In a statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC in the state, Steve Otaloro, it was stated that the administration of Aiyedatiwa has continued to pilot the affairs of the state with a high level of responsibility.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has indicated plans to enter into an alliance with another political party yet to be announced ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The move was disclosed by a PDP stalwart and former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, while addressing party caucus members during a special meeting held at his residence.
Lamido clarified that the PDP was not pursuing a coalition but an alliance, which he described as a strategic decision aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the next general elections.
He said he was fully aware of the concerns and anxieties among party members, noting that the prevailing situation within the PDP had compelled him to consult widely with key stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the party’s crisis.
“I have met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and other prominent leaders of the party. I appealed to them to set aside grievances and personal differences and focus on the survival of the PDP and the millions of members across the country who are worried and confused,” Lamido stated.
According to him, the resolution of the party’s crisis largely rests on the shoulders of four influential figures which are Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
“If they so wish, the PDP crisis can be resolved instantly,” he said.
Lamido assured that efforts were ongoing at the national level to address the challenges confronting the party and chart a way forward for members and supporters nationwide.
“At the national front, we are doing the needful to find solutions and a clear path forward for all members and supporters. Very soon, progress will be evident,” he added.
He also revealed that a crucial meeting had been scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, 2025, which he described as a potentially final effort to resolve lingering differences within the party, urging members to remain patient.
Speaking on the party’s strategy in Jigawa State, Lamido described the planned alliance as a pragmatic approach to reviving the PDP’s electoral fortunes.
“In Jigawa, we have opted for an alliance going into 2027. Given the realities on ground, this is the most viable path to victory,” he said.
The former governor attributed the party’s internal challenges, particularly at the regional level, to leadership disputes and post-election disagreements, including contentious candidate selections that had deepened divisions.
“Some national decisions affected the states negatively and created cracks within the party, but we are now mending fences,” he explained.
Lamido, however, stressed that the success of the alliance would depend largely on the support and cooperation of grassroots members.
“Our members and supporters in Jigawa must remain calm, united and ready. They are the backbone of the PDP, and this alliance will strengthen their voice in 2027,” he urged.
He concluded by assuring party faithful that the moves were part of deliberate actions to reposition the PDP in Jigawa State and across the country, expressing optimism that national-level breakthroughs would soon reinforce state-level efforts.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not secure a second term in office in 2027.
The Abia South lawmaker insisted that the president never truly won the 2023 presidential election and will face a tougher political battle ahead.
Speaking on the prospects of the next general election, Abaribe said the mood across the country shows growing anger and frustration among Nigerians.
According to him, the level of hardship being experienced nationwide has strengthened the resolve of voters to reject Tinubu at the polls in 2027.
The senator dismissed claims that the president has never lost an election. He argued that no politician is immune to defeat, especially when public sentiment has turned against an administration.
Abaribe said Nigerians are already making up their minds and that the outcome in 2027 will reflect their lived realities.
During his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Abaribe stated, “I do not think so. Everybody loses elections, and you will see when the time comes. He will lose in 2027 because I know what Nigerians are feeling outside.”
He went further to challenge the legitimacy of the 2023 election outcome, saying, “Tinubu never won the 2023 election, and everybody knows it. But we said fine, he has been declared the winner, no problem. We acknowledge him as president, but we are going to meet him in the field, and I will see how he is going to cobble together what will make him win again.”
Abaribe insisted that the next election will not follow the same pattern as the last. He claimed the opposition and ordinary Nigerians are now more alert and prepared to defend their votes.
According to him, “It won’t work because this time everybody will be ready. It will no longer be an announcement at 3 a.m. before people wake up in the morning. This time, people are ready, we are ready, and the masses are even more ready.”
The lawmaker also blamed the Tinubu administration for what he described as a collapsed economy and worsening insecurity across the country.
He questioned how the president intends to convince voters to renew his mandate amid rising cost of living, unemployment, and persistent safety concerns.
Abaribe also spoke on the recent wave of defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He made it clear that he has no intention of joining the ruling party, insisting he would remain with the opposition regardless of political pressure.
He said, “If there is anybody who is going to defect to the APC, I think I should be the very, very last one. By the time I defect, it would mean there are no parties left in Nigeria, including the APC.”
According to him, the defections do not strengthen the APC but instead create internal crises. He argued that the ruling party is absorbing unresolved political conflicts that will eventually weaken it from within.
The senator noted that leadership struggles are already emerging in states where high-profile defections have taken place.
Abaribe added that the opposition stands to benefit from the situation, as the APC’s internal disagreements will become more pronounced ahead of future elections.
