Cricket Australia have confirmed how they plan to acknowledge the victims of the Bondi terrorist attack during the third Ashes Test in Adelaide – and the decision will resonate with many fans.
Iconic Aussie singer John Williamson will perform his famous song True Blue as a tribute to the victims when the match begins on Wednesday. Flags will also be flown at half-mast.
Daily Mail also understands players from both Australia and England will wear black armbands at Adelaide Oval.
‘This is a tragic time for all Australians and the thoughts of everyone in the cricket world are with the victims of this terrible event, their families, friends and the Jewish community,’ Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg said.
‘While sport can seem insignificant at times like this, we have the unusual opportunity to bring millions of people together to pay tribute, to console and to contemplate what we want our nation to be.
‘I’m grateful John has agreed to perform True Blue, which has at its essence the ideal of Australians from all backgrounds sharing the same hopes and aspirations.

Cricket Australia (CA) and the England Cricket Board (ECB) released a joint statement 24 hours after the massacre.

‘All of our thoughts are with the victims, their friends and families, the Jewish community and the people of Australia at this deeply distressing time.

CA has also confirmed plans are in place to honour the victims during Big Bash League games.
Tributes began on Monday night at the match in Geelong when the Melbourne Renegades hosted the Brisbane Heat, with players standing as one to remember the victims.
‘Australian cricket is horrified by the tragic events at Bondi Beach,’ the ground announcer said.
‘All of our thoughts are with the victims, their families and friends, the Jewish community and the people of Australia at this deeply distressing time.

Conor Benn calls out Chris Eubank Jr’s ‘victim mentality’ after defeated boxer posted concerning footage of his pre-fight ordeal following shattering defeat in November
Conor Benn says he felt little surprise when he saw the video Chris Eubank Jr released in the weeks after their rematch, showing himself motionless on a hospital bed, hooked up to machines and surrounded by medical staff.
The footage sparked widespread concern across boxing, intensified calls for Eubank Jr to retire and prompted an outpouring of sympathy online.
Benn, however, is unmoved by the reaction and believes the focus should be less on the image itself and more on why it was shared in the first place.
‘I heard he had IBS throughout the last parts of training camp,’ Benn said. ‘I heard it after the fight as well, or he’s got a stomach cyst or whatever it is.
‘Ultimately, I’m not really too concerned, to be honest. I know it’s not a serious health condition. I think people need to look deeper into the reasons as to why it’s posted. There’s a certain pattern here of sympathy vote and a victim mentality.’
Benn is careful not to dismiss health concerns outright, but he is clear that, in his view, suffering is part of the profession and not something fighters should use to reframe a defeat.

The son of former two-weight world champion Nigel Benn points to his own experiences as an example of what boxers routinely endure without public complaint.
‘You don’t see pictures of me making 152 for my fight in Vegas and I’m on the floor in a blanket, struggling to make the weight,’ he said.
‘Ultimately it’s just part of the game. It’s part of the sport we do. We’re modern-day gladiators. You’ll never hear me moan about anything.’
He recalls entering a rematch of his own while carrying a serious injury, without once suggesting it should temper the result.
‘For one of my fights, I tore my tendon in my last spar of camp,’ Benn said. ‘That was my rematch against the Frenchman who had put me down in the first fight.
‘Torn tendon, asthma, all of it and I’m good. I’m not here for sympathy. You’re in the wrong game if you want the sympathy of the public. No one cares.’
Benn acknowledges that Eubank Jr, like every fighter, faced challenges in camp, but insists that choosing to fight means accepting responsibility for the outcome.
‘Nobody has a perfect camp,’ he said. ‘I had issues in the first fight as well. There were things throughout camp that were challenging and we had to work around them, but you’ll never hear me make excuses.
‘Give the man his roses, give him his flowers, and that’s it. You either thought you were good enough to get in there on the night, or you weren’t. Either you believed it, or you were scamming the public into thinking there was going to be another fight of the year.’
For Benn, the result settled the matter. ‘Ultimately, he thought he was good enough to come in and beat me on the night,’ he said. ‘Ultimately, he wasn’t.
‘First time around, I took his soul. I could see it. He’s not the same and he never will be the same again. I’ve got his soul right here, right here, in my hands.’
That belief underpins Benn’s view that Eubank Jr should now walk away from the sport, not out of spite, but out of pragmatism and concern.
‘He will never get his soul back,’ Benn said when asked whether his rival could recover from the loss in November.
‘I’m not giving it back to him. Should he retire? He should retire, yeah. He should call it a day. He’s got paid lovely for his last two fights. First fight was close, second fight he got battered in. If I was him, and I was his team, I’d call it a day.’
Despite the rivalry and obvious animosity, Benn insists his stance is rooted in the realities of boxing rather than personal malice.
‘Do I like him? No. Do I think he’s a prat? Yes,’ he said. ‘But ultimately we’re fighters, and you want to see him leave this game without any injuries, especially not permanent injuries. It’s an unforgiving sport. We both know that first-hand. Don’t overstay your welcome.’
Eubank Jr has spoken publicly about health problems, brutal weight cuts and personal struggles, and has hinted at a possible comeback once he is ‘100 per cent’.
Benn is unconvinced but leaves the door open if his rival insists on continuing. ‘If he wants to fight, I’ll happily beat him up at 168,’ Benn said. ‘No problem. I’ll do it for free.’
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed that the club were prepared to part ways with him during the summer transfer window, despite his status as a key figure at Old Trafford.

“It hurts me a lot. More than hurting, it makes me sad because I’m a player they have nothing to criticise about. I’m always available, I always play, good or bad. I give my all.
“Then you see things around you, players who don’t value the club as much and don’t defend the club as much… that makes you sad.”
Fernandes, 31, provided further insight into how close he came to leaving and the emotions involved in the process.
“I knew very well that Manchester United wanted me to leave. I guess the club didn’t do so because Ruben Amorim wanted me to stay, but I could sense that even if I left, it wouldn’t be a bad thing from the club’s perspective,” he explained.
The midfielder also disclosed that he sought advice from former United forward Cristiano Ronaldo before making his final decision.
“Ronaldo gave me some advice, but the final decision was always mine. I decided to stay because I truly love this club, but loyalty isn’t valued as much as it used to be in football today,” he said.
Fernandes went on to reflect on Ruben Amorim’s early months at Manchester United, highlighting the challenges faced by the manager after his arrival.
“It was a difficult start for him. He came here after winning everything at Sporting Lisbon, only to face a team with extremely low morale,” Fernandes emphasised. “We performed well in the Europa League, but we couldn’t maintain consistency in the league.”

Injuries have cost Premier League clubs more than a billion pounds over the last five seasons with Manchester United leading the way to an unwanted title.
United collected 399 injuries across the five years to July 2025 at an estimated cost of more than £150million, although there are signs of improvement with last season’s injury count down on the previous four years.
Chelsea are close behind with 357 injuries over five years at a cost of £140m. The London club have also recorded the most injuries among those who played at the Club World Cup from Europe’s top five leagues.
This data is from the 2024-25 edition of the annual injuries index report for men’s European football by insurance group Howden, released on Tuesday.
Chelsea suffered 23 injuries between June and October this year, more than any other European club participating in the Club World Cup in June and July and an increase of 44 per cent on the same period last year.
Manchester City, the other English club involved, suffered no injuries during the summer tournament, and 22 injuries between August and October.

Overall, the data suggests the inaugural Club World Cup had a minimal impact on the number of injuries, although Howden’s experts predict the true impact will be clearer by the end of the season.
Five years since the Covid pandemic interrupted the 2019-20 season have been highly congested for the Premier League’s biggest clubs with a cumulative impact on elite players.
There was Project Restart to complete the season, followed by Euro 2020 in the summer of 2021, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Euro 2024 and this summer’s Club World Cup.
Mateo Kovacic, who competed in all these tournaments, has hardly played for Manchester City this season and has been struggling with ankle and achilles tendon problems.
Robin Thorpe, an elite performance and injury risk expert who has worked with both Manchester United and the Red Bull group, said: ‘The 2022 Qatar World Cup did not result in a clear rise in post-tournament injury count, but it was followed by a spike in injury severity.
‘This pattern is logical, players exposed to the highest international workloads are typically the most influential and highest-paid individuals within squads. Their injuries therefore carry a disproportionate performance and financial cost.
‘Players such as Antonio Rudiger and Mateo Kovacic, who have competed in EURO 2020, the 2022 World Cup, EURO 2024, and the 2025 Club World Cup, illustrate the unprecedented multi-year cumulative physical and mental load now faced by elite footballers.’
Another trend evident over five years is the increase in the severity of injuries for players under the age of 21.
‘The vulnerability of young players is particularly striking,’ said Thorpe. ‘Across the top leagues, most notably in the Premier League, Under-21 players sustain the most severe injuries despite accumulating the fewest minutes.
‘This may point toward a systemic issue within player development pathways. In many cases, players may reach technical readiness for senior football before achieving the physical robustness required to tolerate its demands.’

The assessment period ran from 11 August 2024 to 2 August 2025.
Donnarumma’s triumph follows an exceptional campaign with his former club Paris Saint-Germain, where he played a central role in a historic season for the French champions.
PSG lifted their 13th Ligue One title and completed a domestic treble by also winning the Coupe de France and the Trophee des Champions.
Donnarumma delivered a series of commanding displays during the knockout stages and finished the campaign in style by keeping a clean sheet in the final, a dominant 5-0 win over Inter Milan.
Before sealing his move to Manchester City, he had also helped Luis Enrique’s side reach the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium in the summer, Donnarumma has carried that form into the Premier League and Europe.

Former Super Eagles captain and former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has cast doubt on the list of players called up to the national team for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Mikel said he believed there was no way head coach Eric Chelle could have made his selections without being influenced by external forces.
Chelle recently unveiled his 28-man squad ahead of the tournament.
