President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated new chief executives for Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory agencies following the resignation of their current heads, Engineers Farouk Ahmed and Gbenga Komolafe.
Ahmed, who headed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and Komolafe, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), stepped down from their positions after serving since 2021. Both officials were appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari to lead the two regulators established under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
Farouk Ahmed has been in the eye of the storm lately folllowing petition by the Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to the ICPC alleging that the NMDPRA boss paid $5 million for his children’s school fees in Switzerland, an amount far above his legitimate income as a public servant.
A statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said President Tinubu had written to the Senate, seeking expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as Chief Executive Officer of the NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as Chief Executive Officer of the NMDPRA.
Eyesan is an experienced oil and gas professional with nearly 33 years at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and its subsidiaries. A graduate of Economics from the University of Benin, she retired in 2024 as Executive Vice President, Upstream, and previously served as Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy, from 2019 to 2023.
Engineer Mohammed, born in 1957 in Gombe State, graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1981 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was announced on Tuesday as an independent non-executive director at Seplat Energy.
His career includes stints as Managing Director of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Nigerian Gas Company, as well as chairmanship roles at the West African Gas Pipeline Company, Nigeria LNG subsidiaries, and NNPC Retail.
He also served as Group Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power Directorate, where he played a key role in shaping gas policy frameworks, including the Gas Masterplan, Gas Network Code, and contributions to the Petroleum Industry Act.
Mohammed was instrumental in the delivery of major energy infrastructure projects such as the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline Expansion and the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, as well as Nigeria LNG Train projects.
The Senate is expected to consider the nominations in the coming days.

At least four person have been reportedly killed, several women brutally tortured, and another declared missing following an attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Udei and Nzorov communities of Guma Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue State.

The attacks reportedly occurred when a group of displaced persons went to fetch firewood at Tse Nyamkume Village along the Yogbo-Udei Road, Monday evening. The victims were said to be returning to Udei, where they had sought refuge after fleeing earlier violence in their home communities.

Among those attacked was one Kenneth Gbayier, a native of Mbalagh, who had taken shelter in Udei after previous attacks forced him to flee his village. Gbayier was said to be in the company of another young man from Saawuan Gboodo Village and several women when they were ambushed by the armed assailants.

According to a community source, Gbayier was shot during the attack and repeatedly macheted on the legs and head, sustaining injuries that eventually led to his death.

“The attackers opened fire on them and then used machetes. Kenneth did not survive the brutal assault.

“The women in the group were captured and severely tortured by the attackers, while the second young man managed to escape into the nearby bush as the assailants chased him. He still remains missing, with no trace of his whereabouts as we speak,” he said.

He disclosed that the latest incident occurred just two days after another deadly attack along the Ajimaka Road, where two Tiv travelers and a security personnel escorting them were reportedly killed after armed herders laid an ambush.

According to him, another farmer was also allegedly macheted around the Ahentse axis of Nzorov Council Ward, also in Guma Local Government Area, within the same period.

He lamented that  armed herders had relentlessly invaded rural settlements and destroying farmlands of the people “and the situation is worsening food insecurity and deepening the humanitarian crisis in the state.

“We are therefore calling on security personnel to urgently intervene before the situation escalates further.

“Also residents of Udei and neighboring communities have been warned to exercise extreme caution, as movement along bush paths and rural routes have become increasingly dangerous due to the persistent attacks,” he stressed.

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent, DSP, Udeme Edet said she had not received reports of the incidents.

Speaking in Lagos at the 10th Anniversary and Annual Seminar for Maritime Journalists, the NSC Boss said that the efforts of the maritime media have contributed to greater transparency, improved public understanding, and stronger accountability within the Nigerian maritime landscape.

Akutah said, “Today’s event is especially significant, not only because it marks a decade of consistent engagement, but also because it will unveil the distinguished individuals who will drive a platform to launch the Maritime Media and Capacity Development Centre.

Also speaking, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Emeka Akabogu, said that harmonising the National single window for economic development is a subject which is at the core of the art of efficiency that Nigeria has been hoping to get to within.

“A lot of the challenge at our ports has arisen because importers, exporters, and Customs have not played their roles as effectively as they should be. A lot depends on ensuring that the human interface is removed from the entire process. This is why the National Single Window System, which will facilitate a platform that ensures that the formalities of the entire process of cargo clearance, which today still requires several submissions to several regulations and agencies, is achieved through one window, through one submission, and through one set of approvals.

“Customs has done very well by ensuring that the trade facilitation agreement of the World Trade Organisation, which Nigeria is a signatory to, is domesticated under the law. And that is the essence of the Nigerian Customs Service Act of 2023. That act, without more, has the potential of transforming the formalities process for Nigeria and putting Nigeria right at the top of cargo clearance formalities on the continent.

“However, that act cannot translate to reality with regard to what would facilitate that cost efficiency if customs is unable to do what is needed to ensure that it comes to life. That is why I’m very happy that it appears that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken the subject of single window very seriously in the last year and a half or so, appointing a special committee and a special coordinator for that purpose,” Emeka Akabogu stated.

The CrimsonBow Sickle Cell Initiative and the Rabiu Olowo Foundation on Wednesday in Lagos provided free medical care for about 400 carriers as part of activities marking the end of the year 2025.

Speaking at the event, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CrimsonBow, Ms Timi Edwin, said that the initiative provided general health talks, medical consultations, medication, vaccination, routine tests, genotype testing and counselling for persons living with sickle cell.

“Our outreach clinics are monthly, and about 400 warriors are here to see a medical doctor, get their routine tests, medications and therapy where necessary.”

“We have done 10 clinic outreaches this year now and more than 5,000 people living with sickle cell have benefited from our free monthly clinics and got their medications this year alone.”

“We all know how much medications cost right now, seeing a therapist and running laboratory services, because sickle cell is a burden,” Edwin said.

The founder, who noted that she had been running the foundation for almost 11 years, said that the challenges facing SCD carriers were numerous.

Calling for support from well-meaning Nigerians, Edwin said, “We are also asking the President and State Governments to please help us increase the budget for healthcare across the country.”

Also speaking, Mr George Oche, General Manager, Rabiu Olowo Foundation, said that the foundation’s intervention in sickle cell care was driven by the lived experience of its founder, also the current Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.

Oche, representing the founder, said that the foundation—built on three key pillars: Health(sickle cell), Education and Community services- is committed to supporting patients and families affected by Sickle Cell Disease.

“As someone living with Sickle Cell Disease himself, our founder has the inspiration and motivation to support this population. We are very keen on collaboration and partnership. For today, this is our first free clinic with the CrimsonBow Sickle Cell Initiative. We are very proud and very excited to support this population.

“We are very keen on reducing, as much as we want to support warriors, the prevalence of people living with sickle cell disease in Nigeria. We all know that Nigeria holds the global burden. That is why we have rolled out an initiative called 10k GenoTest.

“We are reaching out to 10,000 young people to do free genotype testing and free genotype compatibility awareness.”

“Our main goal is to make sure that we can continue to reduce the prevalence of this disease as well as support people living with sickle cell disease,” Oche said.

The General Manager described living with sickle cell disease as challenging but purposeful, noting that his condition strengthens his resolve to make an impact through advocacy, care and community support.

He said that the foundation runs initiatives, including free genotype testing, free health insurance plan support for warriors and awareness outreach programmes, aimed at advocacy and improving the quality of life of patients.

According to him, the foundation’s 10K GenoTest initiative targeting youths with free testing and awareness will help reduce Nigeria’s high sickle cell birth prevalence.

Counselling patients not to give up on life, Dr Pamela Ajayi, Chairman, Bridge Clinic and host of “Doctors on Air,” said that the bone marrow transplant “is no longer something to be avoided and can now be done in Nigeria.”

Ajayi also emphasised the importance of pre-marital and pre-implantation genetic testing, saying that some important new treatments and initiatives are now available in Nigeria.

According to her, since these initiatives are expensive, there is a need for the government to establish special clinics and dedicated funds for SCD carriers.

Dr Ayodele Renner, a consultant paediatrician and child health advocate, described people living with sickle cell as “warriors,” praising their courage and resilience despite daily pain, lifelong medication and emotional challenges.

He urged Nigerians to prioritise genotype testing, warning that many adults marry without knowing their status, thereby increasing the risk of sickle cell disease among children.

Renner called for routine genotype and blood group testing for all children at age one, noting that late diagnosis often leads to severe complications, including anaemia and kidney failure.

He advised diagnosed patients to keep clinic appointments, take prescribed drugs regularly and avoid self-medication, stressing that early hospital care improves survival and quality of life.

Renner said that governments should expand health insurance, subsidise drugs such as Hydroxyurea, support blood services and strengthen sickle cell clinics to reduce financial burdens on affected families.

Beneficiaries, including a 31-year-old Miss Bashirat Oyelakin and an 11-year-old Hassanat Adewale, commended the commitment of the CrimsonBow initiative and Rabiu Olowo Foundation to easing the suffering of patients with SCD.

“This kind of gesture is much appreciated by all of us living with sickle cell, and we are grateful to Rabiu Olowo Foundation and CrimsonBow Initiative for being so caring about us.

“It is not easy living with sickle cell at all. We have seen doctors here and collected our routine drugs; we are very grateful,” they said.

The Federal Government, on Wednesday, disclosed plans to secure single-digit interest loans for fish farmers, a move aimed at boosting local fish production and reducing the country’s dependence on imports.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, made this disclosure at the 4th Quarter 2025 Citizens/Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja, stating that the initiative was part of the government’s efforts to support the growth of the fishery sector and promote food security.

The theme of the Ministry’s 4th Quarter 2025 Citizens/Stakeholders’ Meeting is “Positioning Nigerian Marine and Blue Economy for Investment, Innovation and Expansion”.

According to Oyetola, the Ministry is working with relevant financial institutions to facilitate access to affordable finance for fish farmers, with interest rates as low as single digits.

“This initiative is designed to expand access to affordable finance, empower artisanal and industrial operators, boost productivity, and support our broader efforts to combat illegal, unreported, or unregulated fishing in Nigerian waters,” he said.

He explained that the move was expected to benefit thousands of fish farmers across the country, who have struggled with high interest rates and limited access to credit, noting that with Nigeria’s fish production currently standing at 1.4 million metric tons, the government aims to increase production to meet the country’s annual demand of 3.6 million metric tons.

According to him, the single-digit interest loans are expected to enable fish farmers to invest in modern equipment, improve their stock, and increase their yields, and ultimately contribute to the growth of the sector and the country’s food security.

Speaking on the potentials of the Marine and Blue Economy, Oyetola said that the country had entered into a new era of growth and investment in Nigeria’s blue economy, highlighting significant progress in the sector and outlining plans for further development.

He emphasised the importance of the marine and blue economy sector in driving Nigeria’s economic diversification and growth, saying: “The marine and blue economy sector occupies a central place in Nigeria’s economic diversification strategy”.

The Minister reported that the Ministry had recorded tangible, measurable, and confidence-building milestones aimed at positioning Nigeria as a competitive maritime and blue economy destination.

He also emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to digital transformation, highlighting the launch of the Enterprise Content Management System, saying, “A digitally enabled Ministry is a more responsive Ministry”.

Also, speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Pius Akutah, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to positioning Nigeria’s marine and blue economy for increased investment, innovation and expansion, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Akutah commended the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, saying that the engagement meeting was evidence of the consistency of the Minister and his team in implementing the President’s directives and advancing sector-wide reforms.

He stressed that the meeting’s theme— Positioning Nigerian Marine and Blue Economy for Investment, Innovation and Expansion was a reflection of the administration’s determination to move the sector to the next level following the adoption of key policies.

The Executive Secretary described the participation of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) at the meeting as a strategic move to deepen Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in the sector, stating that such collaborations are critical to attracting investment and accelerating growth.

He stated that stakeholders were renewing efforts to strengthen the marine and blue economy as a viable alternative to Nigeria’s long-standing dependence on oil revenues, even as the year is winding down.

Akutah hailed stakeholders for their commitment throughout the year, saying that the leadership of the Ministry had provoked innovation within the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, which would further enhance the Council’s effectiveness and contribute to the overall success of the Ministry.

Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive officer of Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA has tendered his resignation.

This is coming barely 24 hours after allegations of corruption leveled against him by Aliko Dangote, president and chief executive of Dangote Industries Limited.

Gbenga Komolafe of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC also resigned.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga announced the resignation in a statement on Wednesday, stating that President Bola Tinubu has nominated his replacement.

According to Bayo, Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the NMDPRA and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC.

“To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA.

“The two nominees are seasoned professionals in the oil and gas industry,” Bayo said.

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has claimed that his offices and residences have been raided by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Speaking via a statement issued on Wednesday by his office, he lamented that the anti-graft agency raided his offices and private residences in Abuja and Kebbi state.

He alleged that the raid was because of his recent reference to the Justice Ayo Salami report.

The statement signed by Malami’s Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, disclosed that the raids occurred immediately after the ex-minister made a public statement referencing Chapter 9 of the Salami Judicial Commission of Inquiry Report.

According to the statement, the EFCC operatives allegedly targeted documents related to that chapter, without prior notice.

The statement described the action of the EFCC as “deeply alarming”, noting that they amount to intimidation and retaliation, following Malami’s call for the EFCC chairman’s recusal from his ongoing probe due to alleged bias stemming from the Salami Report.

Chapter 9 of the Salami report allegedly  contains findings implicating senior EFCC officials, including the current Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

“We hereby place Nigerians and the international community on notice that any harm to our personnel or to Abubakar Malami, SAN, will be solely attributable to this pattern of conduct,” the statement warned.

Malami’s office urged the media and the public to question the timing and justification of the raids, as well as the long-standing contention over Chapter 9.

It called on the civil society, professional bodies and human rights groups to demand the full release of the Salami report for transparency.

This development follows ongoing EFCC investigation into allegations against Malami, including abuse of office, money laundering, and issues related to former military president Sani Abacha loot recoveries.

The Senate on Wednesday withdrew a motion seeking to compel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to halt the revocation and reallocation of lands in Abuja.

The motion, sponsored by the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, was withdrawn following deliberations at plenary after a majority of senators opposed aspects of it through a voice vote.

Mr Wike, through the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has overseen the demolition of structures in several parts of Abuja, which authorities say were erected in violation of the city’s Master Plan.

Beyond demolitions, the minister has also revoked and reallocated land titles, in some instances assigning such lands to new beneficiaries.

The FCTA has consistently maintained that many of the demolished structures lacked valid titles or violated approved land-use plans, arguing that previous administrations allowed widespread infractions that distorted the original Abuja Master Plan.

Although Mrs Kingibe raised concerns over these actions during plenary, the motion was ruled inadmissible as a matter of urgent national importance, and she was directed to withdraw it.

Motion for urgent national importance

Earlier in the sitting, Mrs Kingibe invoked Orders 41 and 51 of the Senate Standing Orders to present a motion on urgent national importance, arguing that issues of national concern could be debated without prior notice if the presiding officer’s consent had been obtained.

The motion sought Senate intervention on waste management and sewage services in the FCT, protection of designated green areas, and an investigation into the alleged unlawful seizure of land belonging to Bwari General Hospital.

She told the chamber that she had informed the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, about the motion and secured his consent before presenting it.

Waste management concerns

While presenting the motion, Mrs Kingibe lamented that municipal waste collection across several districts of the FCT had stalled for weeks, leading to massive accumulation of refuse in residential, commercial and public areas.

She attributed the situation to the non-payment of contractors and workers under the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and other relevant FCT agencies, noting that they had reportedly not been paid for about nine months. This, she said, resulted in prolonged industrial action and the collapse of essential municipal services.

The senator further alleged that despite the outstanding debts owed to contractors between March and October 2025, the FCT minister awarded new waste management contracts, retaining only 50 per cent of the unpaid contractors while introducing new ones.

According to her, the newly engaged contractors have written to the minister, indicating their inability to commence operations without a 30 per cent mobilisation fee, further worsening the waste crisis.

She warned that sewage blockages and accumulated waste, which have persisted for nearly eight months, had reached crisis levels, posing serious public health risks, including exposure to waterborne diseases and environmental contamination.

Land revocation allegations

Mrs Kingibe also raised concerns over land revocations and reallocations in the FCT, alleging that Mr Wike had, in several instances, proceeded with demolitions and reallocations despite subsisting court processes, thereby undermining the rule of law.

She referenced a land dispute involving the University of Abuja and argued that such actions violated the FCT Act of 1976, the Land Use Act of 1978, and Section 88 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the National Assembly to investigate administrative actions in the public interest.

She therefore urged the Senate to mandate the FCT Minister and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to halt all revocations, reallocations, and alterations to designated green areas pending a comprehensive audit and compliance review of the Abuja Master Plan.

Senate debate and withdrawal

During the debate, several senators objected to the inclusion of land revocation issues in the motion.

Borno North Senator, Tahir Monguno, who initially supported the motion, later withdrew his support.

The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, dismissed the allegations against the FCT minister, describing them as baseless.

“There are now developments in the FCT. The current minister changed the face of Abuja. He’s doing extremely very well. You cannot solve all problems at the same time, if there are other areas that needed to be done, we should engage our committee to interact with the minister so that he could do more,” he said.

In his response, the Senate said Mrs Kingibe had only sought approval to present a motion on waste management and not land revocations, insisting that the latter did not qualify as an issue of urgent national importance.

Similarly, the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, argued that matters raised under the category of urgent national importance must genuinely be of national scope, adding that the allegations should instead be brought as a substantive motion on notice.

Following the deliberations, Mr Akpabio urged Mrs Kingibe to withdraw the motion.

She complied, stating that she would re-present it solely as a substantive motion on waste management.

“I will re-present it as a substantive motion on waste management,” she said.

Social entrepreneur and education advocate, Mr Zion Oshiobugie, has announced plans to host The Royal Party 2025, a Christmas celebration aimed at restoring dignity and self-worth to 100 orphaned and vulnerable children drawn from underserved rural communities in Warri, Delta State.

The event, organised through the Clever Minds Educational Foundation, is scheduled to hold on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at the Brownhill Event Center, Ogunu, Warri.

Oshiobugie said the initiative is designed to go beyond conventional charity, offering selected children a carefully curated royal experience that includes custom-made outfits, professional styling, a banquet setting, ceremonial crowning and commemorative photography.

Speaking ahead of the event, Oshiobugie said the idea behind The Royal Party was to restore dignity rather than dispense handouts.

“This is not about handouts or sympathy. It is about restoring dignity. For one day, these children will not feel forgotten or marginalised; they will feel honoured, celebrated, and seen as royalty,” he said.

According to him, the 2025 edition will also serve as the official launch of the Clever Minds Educational Scholarship Fund, a programme designed to support the long-term educational development of children from disadvantaged backgrounds beyond the Christmas celebration.

He explained that attendance at the event would be strictly by invitation, with only 25 carefully selected distinguished guests expected.

As part of the ceremony, Royal Patron of Dignity Awards will be presented to individuals recognised for outstanding humanitarian leadership and commitment to child welfare and development.

The theme of the event, “A Christmas of Royal Worth — Where the Forgotten Feel Like Kings and Queens,” reflects the foundation’s belief that every child, regardless of background, deserves dignity, belonging and opportunity.

Oshiobugie added that the initiative is supported by private sponsors, community partners, fashion contributors and volunteers committed to social impact and child development.

This year’s Shiloh was the second after the retirement of Bishop David Abioye as the vice president of the Winners Chapel, after serving with Oyedepo for 44 years.

On his Facebook page, Iorhuna T. Titus highlighted the presence of another vice president of the church, Thomas Aremu, who attended Shiloh 2025 despite his retirement alongside Bishop David Abioye.
